Great all around restaurant. The host was very friendly and down to earth, servers were efficient…read moreand the restaurant was comfortable. More importantly, great food. Had to try the oysters, had one tempura style and one natural, both were perfect. Really enjoyed the tempura style with a touch of wasabi, the other oyster was fresh and tasty. For a starter, I had crab ravioli. At first I found the flavor a little overwhelming (not a typical pasta sauce) but it grew on me to the point where I made sure I got every drop. My main was duck, also very enjoyable. Particularly liked the duck croquette that accompanied. I had to try dessert and an excellent strawberry pannacotta, with a touch of gin. A very enjoyable meal.

What a fantastic meal…read more From the complimentary appetisers to the very end, every dish was delicious. I started with natural oysters and the sauce that went with the oysters was absolutely scrumptious. It was ponzu and some other things (I can't remember!) but it might very well have been the best sauce I've ever had with oysters!!! For mains I had the hake - what a perfect balance of flavours. The soup it was in was delicious and the hake cooked perfectly. The vegetables went well.. I'm not sure if I was imagining a satiny bit of fish sauce in there.. Either way, it was delicious. The staff were great and recommended an Argentinian white which complimented the fish perfectly. We don't normally eat deserts but since everything had been so good we ordered two and told the waitress to not be offended if we don't eat it all. We ate it all. Definitely recommended, and well priced too!!

Carn Brea Castle Restaurant - Hummus plate

Carn Brea Castle Restaurant

Dining in a castle perched atop a hill with sweeping views of the Cornish countryside? Yes, please!…read more The historic Carn Brea Castle has a rich background rooted in Cornish history, and you feel like you've stepped back in time as soon as you arrive. The drive up is an adventure in itself--winding your way up a narrow road to the top of the hill (as you pray no one comes attempting to drive down the hill while you're going up). It's worth it though once you're greeted by breathtaking views and the 18th century castle. A reservation is an absolute must--seating is limited, but well worth the effort. After making our way through the narrow, winding staircase of the castle, we were seated in one of the intimate rooms. The whole place oozes history and charm, making the ambiance unbeatable. The restaurant specializes in Middle Eastern cuisine (suprise!) and for food, we started with their simple but delicious hummus appetizer. Then, I had to go with the Carn Brea Special, which is a tender rump steak fried in butter oil with peppers, mushrooms, and pine nuts, served over jasmine rice. I couldn't resist after seeing it at the table next to us--it looked that good, and it did not disappoint. Flavorful, tender, and cooked perfectly. The entire experience--from the unique setting to the surprisingly great food--made this meal one of the most memorable of our trip.
