It is certainly not the place to go for quick, cheap nosh-up. This is the other end of the scale, with all dishes being painstakingly put together and presented. The serving staff have expert knowledge of all things being served, showing chef-like passion themselves for the dishes and food on offer. You do get the fancy, rather large plates with what appears to be a small portion of the food delicately arranged in the middle, with dribs and drabs of the relevant sauces around the outside. However, the quality is superb, and the portions are actually rather good. This is certainly not to everyone's taste, but if you are looking for fine dining with excellent quality food (and you have a lot of money) this is the place to go without doubt.

It is run by a husband and wife team, and is now located in Trevelyan House on Penzance's historic Chapel Street, after making its name in the basement of the Arts Centre (further down the same street). It has a rather strange layout consisting of two dining rooms and a relaxing lounge area for drinks before or after your meal. Or you can just have tapas in the lounge area if that floats your boat. The space divisions allows atmosphere and privacy, which makes it ideal for business or family occasions. The chef has already established a reputation for producing great food, and mainly using quality local ingredients. It is not a Cornish menu as such, feeling more like a world menu. It is available for wedding and business functions as well as private diners.

I chose the cornish beef fillet which attracted a hefty £6.75 supplement - the price for a la carte is £24 for 2 courses and £29.95 for three. As vegetables are not included with the meal we added that to the order, another £3.95 The food was absolutely wonderful - very tasty and beautifully presented. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the surroundings were pleasant. We only had one alcoholic drink each and ended with coffee but the bill came to just shy of £37 to pay after the £50 voucher had been deducted. The restaurant was busy and fortunately had a table open despite not having booked ahead. We were lucky because the restaurant got full quickly and had a warm humming background murmur without being loud or disruptive. The naan was light and flavorful. The balti chicken was good enough to be my son's new favorite dish though could have been spicier. The vegetable rice was excellent. I got to try a new beer that I had never had before (Cobra). Locals at the table next to us said it was the best Indian in the area. We are definitely glad we stopped in!

We were quickly seated and served. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. Decent choice of wine too.
