My family and I have lived at The Cedars Apartments for almost a year now. Recently, we had some issues with the bathroom toilet, sink and bedroom carpet that needed immediate attention. Marco, the property manager, did a fantastic job coordinating this work to be done seamlessly. Both Adam and Jose helped get our apartment back in top shape. Moreover, Nelson, another maintenance employee here at the Cedars, is always looking for ways to help behind the scenes to help keep the Cedars a family friendly environment with his kindness. RUNN!!!!! Got chased at least 4 times within 1.5 years with crazy off leash pets. When our lovely upstairs tenants moved out, and insomniacs moved above us. Twins jumping off bunk beds, parent lifting weights, and they got a massive dog which isn't even allowed in complex! Cedars (including corporate and Marcos said they could not do much. MANY cars were broken and packages stolen despite security cameras, and again Cedars said they couldn't do much. They even tried charging us $1000+ after taking our entire deposit because we broke lease early due to all these tenants not following rules; they also don't follow laundry rules. First I should mention my standings and what makes me qualified to write a review. I live here currently and have viewed over 20+ apartment complexes before choosing this one. I hope that new renters read my review and find it helpful. So let's get down to it. Here are the pros and cons. ABSOLUTE BIGGEST PRO: - I can not stress this enough. Marcos was the biggest factor into why we chose Cedars (you'll find another review on here that says the same. And I see why) Property management that gives a great vibe during a showing is on the top of our list. Remind you that you have to see them often, for all your problems and issues that arise. Marcos has been truly amazing. The property owners are extremely lucky to have him working for them, GIVE HIM A RAISE. As for new renters, read the other reviews. They're all right. Marcos is awesome. Reliable, Friendly, and gives off a positive energy all around. PROS: - Huge apartments depending on how much you want to spend - Price really is on par to market pricing - Assigned parking under the shade, perfect for motorcycles if you have one! One space fits your motorcycle and your car! - Patio spaces are huge if you choose the left building - Both CV Bart & Hayward Bart is VERY close. 5 mins to be exact. Mornings are only 3 min drive. - Pet friendly - Laundry rooms are all controlled by an app on the phone! No coins! - Two Swimming pools - Gated community, very difficult for strangers to get into the complex. Your car/motorcycle is safe! - Rent is paid online - Work orders can be placed through phone, email, or just walk in and talk to Marcos, he's very friendly. - Close to freeway, easy to get places. - Construction, renovation, and cleaning out vacated apartments are all done during the day time around 12 noon. THANK GOD. CONS: - Busy street with lots of traffic. - Apartment direct across from Cedars is a little ghetto (don't worry, cedars is pretty safe for the most part) - Street parking is difficult at times read more

I have lived here for 3 years and I'm going to miss this place. I am moving to out of the area, otherwise I'd stay. PROS:The rent is reasonable. Whenever I had maintenance problems, they were fixed within 1-2 days. The pool is kept clean. Pet friendly. Pet pick-up stands located throughout property. Gated entrance and locked building. Clean grounds. PEACEFUL!!!!! I lived on the top floor, so there are only 3 apartments on my floor, so very little traffic. Huge patio. Great view. Great size for one person and a pet. Thick walls, hear no neighbors, no neighbors hear me and I blast my music!!!! Storage unit in hallway (for this floor only). Brand new laundry facility which takes debit/credit cards. Almost everything is within 5 minutes except Walmart, Target, and Home Depot/Lowes. Close to CSUEB. CONS: Can be hard to get packages, generally from UPS. The UPS chick is mean and if manager is not here, you don't get your package. No guest parking. Very little street parking which becomes non-existent after 7pm. Down the street can be a little sketchy if walking at night, but never had any problems personally. Gated entrance can get congested if people are coming and going at the same time. The decline of the curb is steep, so have to drive careful so you don't damage the underbody of your car!!!!! People can be trifling and dump their trash outside the EMPTY dumpster. Its picked up the next business day, but cats and raccoons get in it and disperse it everywhere so if walking a dog, you have to mindful of bones and food on the ground. The gym kinda sucks but 24 Hour is right down the street. The cons are little inconveniences and are outshadowed by the pros. Can't beat peace and quiet and still feel free to do what you want. I've been here for about 7 months and I love it! After searching high and low throughout the Bay Area for a one bedroom that would take my large dog, I found The Cedars and couldn't be more pleased! I have a reasonably priced one bedroom with lots of closet space and a nice little patio. The kitchen is spacious with new countertops and cabinets and even has a area to the side perfect for a small dining table. The bathroom is a nice size with all the needed but often overlooked things (outlets, mirrors, towel hangers, drawers/cabinets space, lock, etc). Both the living room and bedroom are large and spacious and as previously mentioned, lots of closet space!! The unit itself is bigger and "newer" looking than any of the other apartments I looked at prior to moving into The Cedars. The community is gated and its quite impossible to get in without a key and/or a friend inside to open the door for you. Water/garbage is a reasonably set price that you include with your monthly rent payment, leaving you with PG&E and any cable/internet service you desire (UVERSE is available)! If you have a pet the pet rent is standard at $25/month. Rent can easily be paid online for no fee. Rent also includes one parking spot which is a greatly needed because parking on the street is beyond scarce. The spots are a bit tight but make it work! The property manager, Marcos, is extremely friendly, attentive, and pro-active. I have had very little interactions with other staff (because nothing ever brakes or falls apart) but from what I have seen everyone seems to be pleasant and hard-working. They even deep clean the dumpster area out weekly! The grounds are kept clean including the pool (rarely used), washrooms (use debit/credit cards - no coins!!), and small gym (a few machines - nothing amazing but a small bonus for renting from here). Neighbors are quiet and either keep to themselves or are friendly in passing. I never hear loud music, yelling, or any other "ghetto behavior" mentioned in other reviews. Occasionally, when I'm walking my dog, I will hear other dogs barking but nothing out of control or annoying. The community has an overall safe and comfortable feeling. The location is close to the freeway, walking distance to AC transit lines, BART, Starbucks, Subway, gas stations, liquor stores, and Trader Joes. The biggest hiccup I have with this place would be the parking. If you are a multiple car family or frequently have guests over you may want to consider the parking situation. Keep in mind you do get one spot inside the gated community and covered but there is no option of a second spot. If your apartment hunting, I definitely recommend checking The Cedars out! read more

OK so here is the update. Overall I do like living here considering that apartment living is what it is. I have lived in Oakland, Emeryville and Campbell. This is the most spacious apartment for the rent that I have ever lived in. We now have a baby and it is roomy enough for all our baby mess. We wil start with the positives first this time. Personally I do love our apartment manager- Yes Marcos, that's you! I would like the office to be staffed more regularly, but that is more the company than the individual. I have a great relationship with the manager, He is helpful and accommodating. Like all interactions with people I think it helps that we have spent some time getting to know him. I also appreciate that he lives in the building so my problems are his problems. He isn't perfect, but considering that someone has to run this place, he does a pretty good job. Pool is usually empty and clean. Grounds are pretty and usually dont smelll like dog doo, but sometimes it does- it's pet friendly There's finally recycling Laundry is usually no problem- they use a card rather than coins which is cool. My family refers to this place as Fort Knox because is so hard to get in here. Though that can be annoying, I appreciate that shady characters should have difficulty getting in here. For the most part, I feel safe though I don't forget that I am in the Bay Area and sh#t happens. There is a small adequate gym that I use when I can't get to one of the many 24 fitnesses in thr area (C.Valley up the street, Hayward and San Leandro) I love my apartment- nice deck, vanity, and sooo roomy, Large master bedroom enough for a King sized bed and a large crib and side tables. Though dated, I love our mirrored closets. Makes the place feel even bigger Usually quiet There is a place in the garage for you to wash your car. The minuses Sometimes the ppl here are loud when folks are trying to sleep. Someone stole my neighbors laundry detergent twice! This is the Bay. That's like, super bad karma man! No hot tub No real place for kids to play safely. They usually play in the parking lot or I guess by the pools. Raccoons - but it is by a creek and raccoon are everywhere. I guess that is about it. About the bed, they did blame us and that whole thing sucked but I was too pregnant to fight it. Havent seen mold since. Honestly not sure if it was the apt or the bed so I just dropped it. The universe provides. Yep, Imma hippie. Overall I would recommend. The sq footage for the price is one of the biggest selling points. Safety would be the next and location isn't terrible though C. Valley is kinda lame if you're young and looking to run the streets. Aight peace folks! read more

I've been here for a year, and I think the Cedars is a great place to live. The manager is awesome, very helpful with everything and very easy to get a hold of. I even won a gift basket for paying rent on time, sweet! It can become a lil nosiey during rush hour the closer to the street you live, but I don't even notice after a while. I have a 1bed 1bath, and its pretty big for the price, so all in all I would recommend The Cedars to anyone. Good luck apartment hunting read more

I have been living at this apartment for almost one year. I have a two bedroom which is very spacious however what dings one star is parking. Parking can be a real problem. You get one assigned parking spot even if you have a two bedroom so you will have to park your second vehicle on the street. Problem with that street parking can be difficult depending on the time of day. Ding two is receiving packages the office is not staffed full time so packages often get sent back to the ups center. Another minor annoyance is laundry sometimes people mess with other peoples stuff when its in the machines or dryers. TERRIBLE place to live. Marcos is the only capable person in the whole property management, if it weren't for him, I don't think they'd get anyone to lease here. The property management company is an absolute nightmare to deal with. They are so unprofessional and give you the run around. I did not renew my lease after the first year and warn people that the price is not worth living in this place. Parking is a nightmare, they have too many apts with too little spaces. The walls are paper thin. Also, people will take your clothes out of machines even if you still have time left for the dryer cycle, so they can put their own stuff in. I have awful asthma and since I've been here it's gotten so much worse. I'm surrounded by smokers. Called the management company to see if they could at least post a request for people to smoke away from the apartments, and got hung up on after getting the run around. DON'T RENT HERE! I have only been here 3 weeks but I have no complaints. I would not say it's ghetto. I just came from a ghetto apartment complex and this one is cool overall. The manager is nice and pretty chill. The complex won Property on the Year in 2009. You will see a shady person here or there but that is pretty much true for any place close to big cities. I usually see a lot of families swimming in the pool or grilling on their patio. How can it be "Ghetto" and win an award that means that ppl overall are happy here? The settings are park-like and I am always proud to show ppl where we live. I came from a one bedroom that started off at $1325 and skyrocketed to $1525 after a year. We now live in a 1300 sq ft (which is huge!) 2 bedroom, 1 bath for less than #1325! We have a deck, two sinks, and big mirrored closets! It's walking distance to Safeway and Trader Joe's and BART! Not to mention you can have a dog or a cat. A big dog, not just one of those "purse dogs", (certain breeds are restricted). Anyway, keep in mind that unhappy ppl are more likely to post than those who got what they expected. In my case, more than expected. You can even pay your rent online and do work orders over the internet. As far as I am concerned, this place is cool with me. read more

I've been here 2 years now and I don't have much to complain about. Rent is at market price currently and I'll probably be priced out of it by next year or so but its decently quiet. Parking is limited so guests will usually need to park a couple blocks away but the area is decently safe so unless you're leaving cash out, cars are left alone. Very pet friendly and the dogs I see are usually mild tempered. Maintenance is pretty good, usually get a response in less than a day, and the emergency line within 20 minutes. I just move out from Cedars after one and half year rent and receive $1600 bill of "move out charge". their contract trap tenant pay additional one month rent even though give them written move out notice 30 days advance. After one year rent, you have two choice : 1. increase rent $100 a month for another one year contract, or, 2. increase rent for $200 month for month by month rent. read more
