A pub with rooms upstairs. Just like the old days!…read more I booked this place not realizing it was not a traditional hotel, and when I arrived to check in after a looooong 15 hours in the air, surprise! I walked around the outside looking for a hotel lobby... nothing! Only a restaurant/ pub with the correct name! You walk into the pub and check in with the bartender!!! After getting the (1920's style) keys, luggage had to be carried up some narrow, windy stairs to the room. (So no lifts and be prepared!) was told that the pub opens till 11 pm, and if you are out and about after that, you give your keys to the bartender, who will give them to the night watchman, who will let you in when you show up at the door. Kinda a funky arrangement but I suppose it works, but never tested it myself. Rooms are on the small side, but the king sized bed was comfortable. Since we were on the level above the pub, at night you could hear the noise downstairs, but it wasn't that loud and it did not disburb me. Included in the room rate was breakfast. Yum! There was a limited choice, but the main 3 items were: English Breakfast, Vegetarian type breakfast, and a continental breakfast. Staying there for 3 nights, I decided to give each one a try, and they were all good (ranked in the respective order in my previous sentence). The server and cook were really polite, checked up on us to see if everything is okay.... a nice experience. The pub itself is nice too, with a main room, another room closer to the street, and some outdoor tables. We did not find ourselves there in the evening, but it is a pretty happening place. Generally pretty full, lots of traffic, flowing conversation and drinks! So a somewhat different experience for me! Just like in the old days you read in the story books or see in the old movies, a pub with rooms upstairs for people to sleep it off! (Modern version of it anyways!) Little on the high average side in price, but you get a meal included, very decent room, dining downstairs, and within 5 min walk to at least 2 - 3 subway stations.

If you're a Buffalo Bills fan living in London -- or just passing through -- there is only one…read moreplace you need to know: The Fitzrovia Belle. Every week during the NFL season, this place transforms into the beating heart of Bills Mafia UK. It's the official home of the Bills Backers of London, and let me tell you -- the energy here on game day is electric. You'll find die-hards decked out in red, white, and blue, chanting "Let's go Buffalo!" like we're back in Orchard Park. The staff? Legends. They know the regulars, they roll with the madness, and they always make sure your pint is full and your wings are hot. Speaking of wings -- they're proper good. You wouldn't expect it, but they've somehow nailed that upstate New York flavor in the middle of central London. Blue cheese and all! Big screens everywhere, full surround sound -- they even play the Shout song after touchdowns. The camaraderie in the room is unreal. Whether it's a heartbreaking loss or a dominant win, you're surrounded by people who bleed Bills blue. It's like stepping into a little slice of Buffalo, right in Fitzrovia. I've brought mates here who don't even follow American football, and they've still had a blast just soaking up the atmosphere. This isn't just a sports bar -- it's a community, and Fitzrovia Belle is the stadium. Go Bills. London loves ya.

I was drawn to the sign of the White Mustache, which seemed completely out of place in the warren…read moreof generic flat-blocks that fill the space between Hampstead Road and Regent's Park. The sign on the door read, simply "Craft Beer, Coffee, Food." Boy oh boy did they deliver. In the midst of a landscape straight out of Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" (or George Orwell's "1984") is an absolute gem of a gastropub. The food is tasty and affordable, the clientele is chilled without being ironic, and the handles selection, oh my, the handles! Not one, but _two_ Beavertowns, a Tiny Rebel, the now-standard Camden Helles, a bunch of other excellent London microbrews, and for a lager, how about Budvar/Budweiser?! You can really tell that someone has put a lot of love and thought into this place. The inside is spacious and comfortable, with lots of windows, comfy furniture and a beautiful long wooden bar. There is a small garden in the back. Although it's brick walls don't offer much of a view, it's very peaceful and they've done their best to spruce it up with plants, warm wooden shades, and other little touches--it could still use a bit more love, but I'm sure they'll get to it as the weather improves. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. When one of the taps was being a bit fussy, the bartender went out of his way to be patient and to insure I received a full measure--and that was for just a 1/3 pint sampler! I haven't tried the coffee yet, but it smelled delicious, so I will definitely be back for that. In short, whether you're looking for a great pint, a tasty burger, or a good coffee, this is a fantastic little gem of a place. It is eminently local, but in the "not rammed with tourists" fashion rather than the "scary old codger mumbling to himself in the corner" way. If you're lucky enough to find it, bring mates, but not _too_ many mates, if you know what I mean. It's terrific for groups, but if you want a raucous piss-up with the lads, something on the Camden High Street would suit you more. There is a television, but it is small and in the corner, so they're not looking to host footie nights either. Here, it's all about the beer, food, and company. It might, in fact, be the spiritual reincarnation of my long-lost and much-missed Crown & Goose. And this is something most devoutly to be wished for. Follow the White Mustache . . . who knows where it will lead you?
