You're not really going to make a choice about schools based on a review from Yelp, right? Go…read morevisit the school, check out their website, attend a game or play or lecture. Even a monthly parent-school meeting will show you the possibilities and opportunities that your child could glean from OES. The summer program offerings are a great place to start--look into it. While you're at it, sign your child up for an enrichment learning activity. We loved meeting the middle school drama teacher and the varsity basketball coach through summer camps. Want to see inspired teaching and learning? Make an appointment to visit classrooms and chat with teachers and students. It will be worth your effort. Maybe you've heard the cliche about schools and teachers and fellow students that help children discover and envision themselves in new, amazing ways. In our experience, that movie cliche holds true. Our son loves his learning experiences here. Even with a minimum of a 90 minute round trip commute to and from school, he looks forward to school every day and leaves at year's end with a deeper understanding of himself, his responsibilities as a human, and of a deep respect for others around him.

Ok Guys! DO NOT LISTEN TO THAT 1 STAR REVIEW!!!…read more I'm also a student attending SSA and have been for 6 1/2 years, and in contrast to other student reviews, I really enjoy and would recommend my school. and "Whatever's T" is exaggerating! I cannot emphasize this enough. Sure, sometimes it gets a little hot outside, but both Upper and Lower school buildings have air conditioning and you can just stay inside if it really is too hot out for uniforms, and the colors at the Upper School are white/powder blue and khaki, not dark at all, if you just take off your navy sweater/blazer (depending on your grade). I could see this argument made for the Lower School because they have gray and navy with evergreen sweaters, but there's so much shade there. If I were going to give one piece of advice, get breathable shoes and thin socks for summer. Your feet do get kinda hot in black shoes and socks, but other than that, the uniform is a bonus, not a bad thing. Uniforms really efficiently take away worrying about what people think you're wearing, and needing to spend all that time choosing every morning. Yes. I find my teachers have high standards, as they should. Yes, they're strict, but not the bad kind. Your teachers have to be strict to get an average student SAT score be 1320! (Compared to 1045 at a normal public school) On the average day, if you haven't forgotten anything, you just have a ton of fun with the teachers! Sometimes it can feel a bit overwhelming if you get a lot of homework in one day, but then you realize that half of it isn't due until next week, and you can make good progress without having to shut yourself up in your room for four hours. The only time you do need to do that is if you forgot about a big project and it's due tomorrow. In that case, that's on you, not how strict the teachers are! The workload is actually very light. On Latin- Sure, it's a dead language, but it makes you feel really reverent to be speaking, reading, and memorizing the way people actually spoke in the Biblical eras and History lessons. Also, you'd be surprised how much it will help with all the Romance languages, Spanish included, and you start in 4th grade and can choose not to take Adv. Latin in 8th. For the public school questions, almost all of us are Christian (Catholic included) and have some core beliefs that we don't think are being upheld correctly in the public school system and curriculum. That's why the school is here - freedom of choice. Certainly people can do great wherever they are. We are saying "bad things" like we disagree, not like we think they are evil. Parents, if you love your kids' mental, spiritual, emotional, etc. etc. etc. health, then Do, from the deepest depths of my soul, Do take them to SSA. I love my teachers, my peers, and my upperclassmen. I really look up to them and love to hang out with them. The class ratio is 1:10 which means I know all of my teachers well - even some I don't have classes with. The ratio means that I have been with roughly ~13 of the same 27 kids every year since I started in 2nd grade, and I recognize that in that 27 there are a lot of different opinions, theological beliefs, and backgrounds, which means we all need to learn how to handle those differences. Ex. My friends and I are currently debating Calvinism vs. Arminianism, Infant baptism, and sprinkling. (An example of what SSA kids do for fun :) ) I'm able to go to any of my teachers and ask for advice, even on things in my own life, not just school and I trust them so much. My parents and I are also really good friends with the families of many of the kids from across the grades, not just my grade, due to the House System. (Yes, Harry Potter!) All of the grades are divided into four houses (Essex, Milan, Castile, and Capet) which really help mix grades, and allow you to hang out, have a place in the school, and just get a time to goof off during competitions for the house cup. All this to say, DO, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, DO SEND YOUR KIDS TO ST. STEPHENS ACADEMY. (P.S. When they do come, Essex is the best House. -Totally Unbiased Source....)

Unlike all the ratings from parents, I am a student at SSA. This place is pure torture for me. I…read morethink the uniform could be improved because,on hot days absolutely NO one wants to wear dark colors during the sunny afternoons. The teachers are super strict and not the good kind of strict, the bad kind. The only reason why I like this place is seeing specific people here. The curriculum is HORRIBLE! No one wants to learn Latin. It's a dead language like what the heck! All the homework is very stressful and really drians out your energy whoch could affect your mental health. Parents, if you love your kid's mental health, don't take them here. They say bad things about public schools but not all public schools are bad. Read the public school reviews, most of them are saying good things about the school.

We have seen him grow developmentally in so many different ways and his excitement to go to school everyday is the best thing to see. All of the teacher's and staff are fantastic. Not only is everyone so welcoming, but they are always willing to work with the family, and are committed to creating a safe and inviting atmosphere for the students. My son's first teachers were Teacher Rylee, and Teacher Anna. Their dedication to helping these little minds grow and thrive is truly remarkable. I have watched how they have helped my son (3.5 yrs old) develop better coping skills with emotional and physical regulation. With these new learning skills, I have seen a stronger sense of awareness from him. His teachers always have days planned out with fun and educational activities. They have provided him with a creative learning environment setting healthy boundaries, while also still allowing him to be himself and have fun. I always feel 100% confident my child is being well looked after. Thank you Pipster Prep for everything. If you want to send your child to the best preschool setting you can ask for, send them here. -Colie

It's nice when you come to drop off and have consistent faces and they know who your kid is before you even step out of your car. The activities are organized with monthly themes that are shared with parents so you can discuss these things at home. They have had special visitors and field trips monthly (before Covid). I imagine it must be hard to keep a place with so many kids clean but I literally have never seen any mess whatsoever even when the kids are painting. Their health and safety protocols ensure me as a parent they are doing everything possible to make sure kids can be present at school everyday. They are the perfect balance of academics and social/play time!
