The Cat Doctor veterinary clinic is filled with the best support staff and the best vet, Dr. Bradbury I've ever come across in my many years of cat ownership. They are all so compassionate. Unfortunately I lost both my cats within 4 months of each other but they lived 15 years largely due to Dr. Bradbury and the staff, 2 in particular, Abbey and one other but I can't remember her name but she know who she is. We are an established patient with this practice fot our cat. He was in distress this morning & I called for an emergency appointment.. I was told the soonest he could be seen was Saturday. I called another local veterinarian & was told I could be seen immediately for our cat...They agreed he was in distress and if we had waited until Saturday the outcome would have been fatal beyond 48 hours. Our cat is now undergoing emergency surgery & will need to remain hospitalized for the next three days. I'm beyond frustrated with the lack of urgency expressed by this practice, especially since we were an established patient. We will not return to this practice due to their disregard for the health of out beloved cat. read more

Even the office feels like a home not a medical place. It's not even a close second. I've had cats for 30 years and out of convenience taken my cats to the vet I take my dogs to and always wish I had brought them back to the Cat Doctor. I've never met kinder vets and they understand cat health way better than the run of the mill vet by a long shot. You definitely pay for it but it is worth it! read more

I love dogs, but I cannot stand it when I am in the waiting room and a dog is barking at my cat for just being a cat. I am so happy there is a place for just cats. This is our cat family doctor. Dr. Bradbury has been seeing my boys for years and we cannot ask for a better more attentive doctor. She works with us in our situation rather then just give us the standard run down of procedures. When my youngest had pink eye, she took care of it with out a series of unnecessary tests. When I thought he had UTI she ran tests to validate and found out he had crystal instead and changed his diet. My friend also had the same issue with her baby and her vet from VCA had that poor cat go through 3 months of tests before landing on the same result. I would highly recommend this place if you want the best care for your cats however, you get what you pay for. This is not a cheap place. read more

Never been there before, and apparently won't be boarding my FOUR cats there, since they are hard to reach by phone. With COVID restrictions in place, they don't allow you to go in with your cats for an office visit, let alone to board. Was willing to overcome that, since they specialize exclusively in felines, but have opted for a different office, since you have to leave messages and play phone tag in order to speak to the office Mgr. Oh well, their loss. Although, I guess boarding 4 cats (with no discount for multiple cats), at $39.00 per night isn't worth their time. read more

Update: I did receive a call from the owner of the vet. He was very apologetic and said that he did see footage (assuming security cameras) and what happend was unacceptable. He did explain that the person I had dealt with was supposed to offer up options which she didn't do. He did seem very sincere which was much appreciated. Unfortunately, the damage was done. I booked an appointment elsewhere for tomorrow. I don't have much trust that they let me drive away with an injured pet. ******** I wanted to bring in my cat for a wellness a visit as she is 10 yrs old and she has also been limping. I called to make an appointment on Wed and was not told of the new curbside process. I told the person that came to the door that I would have appreciated being told about the new process when I booked the appointment. She curtly said, "we have been doing this for 6 mos and yes, we do advise". I explained once again that no one told me and she shut the door while I was speaking to her which was extremely unprofessional. She came back a few minutes later to get paperwork and I told her I didn't appreciate the attitude and it was unnecessary. Had some back and forth about the process. Yes, I was stressed that I couldn't stay with my cat as my cat was stressed but never once raised my voice. She ultimately took the cat inside. Several minutes later, she came out and placed my cat at the door. Walked to my car and told me that she told Dr. Bradbury about my "temper tantrum" and that the doctor was cancelling my appointment. This is insane to me as it seems the person having the temper tantrum was the assistant. At no time, did the vet come to the door or call me to get my side of the story. Either way, as a vet, I would think the #1 concern would be that of the pet and to refuse service to a cat that could have an injury is unacceptable. For a vet/practice to not put the care of the pet first is definitely not where I would want to put my trust in anyway. I was there all of 13 min and left shaking and upset, not for me...but for my cat. I don't have an issue with the process at all but it should be told upfront so there are no surprises. There was a couple behind me so I asked if they were advised of the process when they made an appointment, they said no. Unfortunate that I will have to find a new vet. read more

Please, please take your cat elsewhere. They are unprepared and incompetent. Here's our story in the hopes it helps others avoid what happened to us: Gandolf, my niece's cat, was a 5-6 year old Maine Coon cat that had just been for a check up at The Cat Doctor (this location) in the Spring. I had also adopted a new rescue cat, and wanted to get his healthcare all caught up. My visits here with both cats was... superficial, to say the least. There was talking and some feeling around/palpitating, but nothing beyond that. Also, no discussion on what to expect at what age, breed, etc. Both vets I've been to after this for my other cat's new check ups to hedge my bets covered both of these with me. Gandolf came in for an appointment for microchipping. I scheduled the appointment from their site and received confirmation -- that turned out to incorrectly be for the wrong day of the week than the date was for this year (there's no way I selected a different year in their interface). They were unprepared because of the glitch in the scheduling system, and Gandolf was eventually taken to the back for his microchipping. About 5-10 minutes later an absolutely panicked vet came back out and shouted to take Gandolf to an ER vet. Turns out that Gandolf was suffering from an enlarged heart that the vets here couldn't help with (found this out way later when I called to find out what happened from a very shouty vet tech/receptionist). There was pure panic from the vets and the staff -- no attempts to direct on where to go (do you know where the nearest vet ER is from here? If you don't, look it up and pin it in your maps now!), and no first aid/ attempts to stabilize made. Just a hail Mary down Roswell Road in traffic to Blue Pearl Emergency Hospital -- which I guarantee you right now is too far. You won't make it. Your cat will die writhing in your arms, just like poor Gandolf did in his 16 year-old owner's arms while trying to get there. They cannot handle an emergency, you will be left to fruitlessly try to save your cat's life on your own without their help. I've asked both vets I've been to since then, and made calls to others after this hellish incident -- all have said they wouldn't have sent us to the ER unless Gandolf was stable. I'm hoping this review can help me live with the guilt for having chosen this place (which is more boutique masquerading as animal hospital) instead of a place with competence and substance. After this hard burn, I actually only take my pets to a clinic that has an ER hospital attached. read more

We have taken our cats here a few times because of their expertise and care but recently our boy cat needed a comprehensive exam because of his recent sickness. They quoted us almost $800.00 for this exam. After calling another Cat Only vet, they told us their price was about $600 CHEAPER! If you are going to go there though, DO NOT WORK WITH DR. WEIGNER. He is the owner of this place and is pretty much socially retarded. He will use huge words and terms and talk money with little concern for your cat or your wallet. Dr. Stumph is a really great doctor and she does a good job but again, she works FOR Dr. Weigner. Again, if money is no object and you feel like paying over inflated prices to pay for things like a coffee machine, free candy and crackers then by all means go here. They are extremely expensive. I was charged $83 for Tresaderm ear drops that I see are available for $8.99 - exact brand, packaging, everything. Also 14 Robamox tablets which are available for $4.20, but I paid another $83.00. A 10-20-times premium on drugs? That's beyond outrageous. FELV test $104, but available elsewhere for $50. I can see being charged more for services such as the visit and any procedures because this is a specialty operation in clearly a very boutique setting. And yes, you will pay a premium. That being said, expect to pay a massive premium on any drugs and vaccines too. Can't afford to go back there. read more

When we lived in Chicago, we took our cats to Dr. Stein, who was the grandmother of feline medicine, and we have also been just as delighted with Doctors Weigner and Bradbury. They have always been honest and incredibly wonderful with our cats, nursing some of them through difficult times and giving us the right advice when Blue Pearl was both overcharging and underperforming. Professional, very nice office, good care, but "very" overpriced. I appreciated the care for my cat, but I spent almost over $1,500.00 to confirm a diagnosis (confirmed 5 years ago and several times since) and get a prescription for the same pills that I had been getting for years. I thought once the diagnosis was confirmed, I could get refills for a period of time w/o more assessment and labs, but then after 2 months of refilling, I was told that I had to get labs every other month in order to get refills. This meant charges of $350.00 to $400.00 every time I visited. Every vet I've ever had ---- read records and past labs, confirmed my cat's diagnosis and did lab work once a year but provided refills for the year. I was told this was the Standard of Practice for my cat's diagnosis. I was told my cat's teeth were very bad and other vets, including my new vet, told me they were not bad. I have a new vet that specializes in felines that charges so much less for appointments. read more

The front desk receptionists will not tell you exactly how things work in there until the minute they overcharge you for the services. I walked out from The Cat Doctor as they wanted to charge me again for a full exam after they visited both of my babies less than a month earlier. They said that it was their procedure. I didn't even have the chance to meet the doctor and they wanted to keep my cats there for half a day. Ridiculous!! The first time they did my baby girl, she came home totally aggressive and it took me 3 days to calm her down. I can't imagine having them touching my babies ever again. I thought yes they were more expensive but I LOVED how they treated me and my cat. Everyone was soo very nice. I had to leave my kitten for a week and everyday I would call and check on him and 2 times they even called to tell me that he had done something cute and was coming around nicely. They took him out of his cage a few times a day to pet and play with him. I loved the Cat Doctor and would recommend it to anyone that wanted quality treatment. Had a very near miss with Penelope when they finally diagnosed her with a rare fungal disease that wasn't found during the many visits to the prior vet. Had she stayed at the last vet, Penelope almost certainly wouldn't be around. Now she's on her way back and is happier and has more energy than ever. I am stunned to see so many negative reviews! We have been using Dr. Weigner since he first opened his business in the late 1980s and always have been very pleased with him and his staff. Yes, he is more expensive, but his breadth of knowledge about felines is WORTH THE PRICE and results in correct diagnoses. He has extended the lives of several of our cats, allowing us many additional years of enjoying them. When we would lose one, he always calls to answer any questions and is very aware of the depth of our loss. The bottom line is that Dr. Weigner loves and understands kitties. I used to like this veterinary office for 5 years. No more. They have exhibited a shocking lack of concern and responsibility for the immediate and rapid deterioration of my 2 cats' health following administration of their most recent care. Both cats were in perfect health when I brought them in. After the care they administered, within one week they developed a very worrisome twitching condition which happens when I touch their spines. They continue to be worryingly unwell, twitching--and worse--when I groom them. The vet is unwilling to see this in person without my paying for the "service" of watching this worrisome behavior. Dr. Weigner says it is likely due to a kidney/thyroid/or liver issue which somehow must have mysteriously manifested itself simultaneously in Both cats immediately following his care. What a coincidence. I will no longer be using this veterinary office. read more

$110 while my cat potentially lay DYING just to TALK to us?! Then quoted another $3000+ for the treatment, again while my cat lay sick and in grave danger. This guy may be the Albert Einstein of cat veterinarians, but the lack of compassion shown and the unwillingness to work with the caregivers while an animal way in immediate put a terrible taste in my mouth. I am grateful that my cat did not die in route to the other veterinarian who did immediately rushed him back to take care of him. If you don't have the money, you will not be cared for. In addition he gave us some bogus write up that was more like a form letter of a wellness check stating that my cat did not have the issue that we brought him in to begin with!!! Clearly this form letter is something that is handed out before they've even had a chance to diagnose your pet. Don't waste your time. But if you have a few thousands of dollars lying around, by all means go to the cat doctor. read more

I agree with others around COST, but the quality of service, the way the treat the pets and how comfortable our cat is what prompts me to give a 5* rating. When we took our cat to a dog/cat facility, it gets very jumpy and literally fights to get out of that place, starts biting and scratching. At Cat Doctor, she is very calm and very familiar with the people and smells. I found them very informative, the treatments for our cat's health (had a few issues over the last couple of years) all have been successful with very minimal side effects. They give good overview and explain why they are doing specific tests et al. Overall, I found them very reliable, flexible with timings and very friendly people. They have boarding facilities and works very well for folks who need to get out of town frequently. read more

The best vet I've ever been to! The Vet office is so cute and cat friendly! It's nice to have a specialist for my fur baby. The office is tucked back in the woods and gives such a peaceful vibe, which is great for cats! Today was our first visit to The Cat Doctor and I was thrilled! Complimentary beverages, crackers, cookies and candy made the wait to see the vet a pleasure and I, along with my cat Collins, felt very relaxed since it's a cat-only environment. Often at the vet we encounter dogs in the waiting room, which can be stressful. This felt like a spa! Although I cannot speak to treatment costs for ailments, the cost for today's exam and shots are in line with what I've paid at other vets in the Atlanta metro-area (Buckhead, Smyrna and Vinings areas). The Dr. took a lot of time with my wife, was specific in her written instructions for my cat's weight loss and recommended both a prescription remedy, as well as over the counter to save on costs. The Cat Doctor is both good and expensive. Very Expensive. We took our cat to this practice after she was lost outdoors for five weeks. The Cat Doctor very quickly guessed that the cat was suffering from a liver condition that is common in under-nourished felines. He was friendly and explained things clearly -- except one thing. He told us treatment for this condition couldrun "about $1,000." He then charged us more than $1,200 JUST TO CONFIRM THAT DIAGNOSIS and provide a few small services such as hydration. The actual treatment for the liver ailment, including surgical insertion of a feeding tube, was handled by another practice and cost LESS than the diagnosis. Our research indicates that the Cat Doctor charged us 2-3 times the rate that other vets would have charged for similar tests and services. Yes, he is the rare board certified feline vet. And, yes, he serves the affluent Buckhead/Chastain area. Still, in our experience, his rates were nearly obscene. Our recommendation: If your cat is suffering from a rare or mysterious illness, consider the Cat Doctor - He's the Dr. House of cat vets. But if your pet is dealing with a more routine condition, choose another practice and use the money you save to take your cat somewhere nice -- like Paris. read more

I gave them two stars because they are very knowledgeable-cats are their speciality. They have a 1-800 number where you can call and get advice which is great. However they are EXTREMELY over priced. A visit is $92 alone. My kitten needed to be seen right away for an ear mite problem and my boyfriend couldn't take her to our regular vet so I dropped her off on my way to work. The doctor said it was going to cost between $500 to $600 for the medication. I called around other vets to verify the quote and they said it was too much. I would never go back there or recommend them to anyone. read more

This review is based on my very limited time as a client. Dr. Weigner is smart, straightforward, and has a wonderful bedside manner. Abby, the practice manager, is delightful -- responsive, knowledgable, and kind. The practice is in a lovely location -- a home converted into a clinic, with woods and bird feeders right outside the exam windows. The waiting room is actually comfortable, and feels like a living room, with sofas, upholstered chairs, rugs, and snacks. (It could use a few magazines, though -- no reading material to distract while kitty is getting shots or whatever.) The receptionist at our visit wasn't very communicative or welcoming; needs a little work on those skills, especially for a practice that seems to target the $$$$$ market. Because of the pricing, I wouldn't use this practice for regular care, but for specialized care, I highly recommend. read more

I took one of my cats to the Cat Doctor several months ago when I lived in Atlanta to get a second opinion. He was presented some potentially serious symptoms and my primary vet, I felt, was throwing spaghetti at the wall in diagnosing their cause. Initially I saw Dr. Weigner and was put at ease by his knowledge--both of feline medicine and of my cat's extensive medical history which he obtained and reviewed prior to the appointment. I appreciated that he explained his plan for reaching a diagnosis, which my other vet didn't do so much. His staff is warm, personable, and shows genuine concern. Their office is designed with cats in mind--there isn't a single nook in the place a cat can hide in, yet it feels like a cozy living space down to the exam rooms. My cat usually has to be pulled from his carrier, but with Dr. Weigner's patience and, I think, the relaxed non-sterile-feeling environment, he came out on his own relaxed and happy. My appointment was not rushed. Dr. Weigner took all the time we needed answering questions, as did Dr. Stumpf who followed up with me with test results by phone after our appointment. I took off a star only because I don't know that I'd recommend this place for wellcare. While this place is much more expensive than other vets in town, Dr. Weigner is also one of a handful of board certified feline practitioners in the country; meaning he has specialty advanced training in treating felines that other vets just don't have. I probably wouldn't take my cats here for shots or uncomplicated procedures that could be treated by any competent vet, but if you're looking for a second opinion for a tough to diagnose case, or are uneasy about another vet's opinion to do something drastic, see this guy. He knows his stuff. I'd pay apremium for expert knowledge vs. less for average knowledge when it counts any day. read more

Moving to Atlanta from DC, I was looking for a knowledgeable, highly professional, cat-only practice for a very complicated cat. She's had digestive issues for years, and has been on long-term care. Dr. Weigner is easily the best vet I've ever had the pleasure of working with - and I've worked with a couple dozen specialists in three states for my various cats in the past 25 years. Not only did he take over an hour to review the case file before my visit, he had an extensive list of questions ready for me when I got there. He took much more than the usual appointment time with me to understand the case, and made himself available by phone several times over the next few months. We plotted a course of action that he took the time to spell out very clearly and simply for me (did I mention it was complicated?), and he was more than patient when I called later for clarifications on meds. When we ran tests, he called to explain the results, discuss options, and outline our best approach. While others have complained about the pricing, I found it very reasonable - especially given the level of service. When I mentioned that cost was an issue for us, Dr. Weigner was incredibly helpful in figuring out how to proceed. He outlined expected costs, showed me where we could delay or defer tests to control expenses, and was generally sympathetic to doing only what we really needed to do for the cat's best care - while keeping an eye on the bill. What's best, in my opinion, is that Dr. Weigner explained so much about the case and my options that I felt genuinely educated about the situation. I could make educated decisions on which tests to run or which course to take because his explanations were so effective. Other vets have just said, "do this or that" without giving me a whole lot of reason why, or without any care for cost. I should also point out that my cat had been tagged as "extremely fractious" by a previous vet. She had to be sedated more than once to have blood drawn. But in Dr. Weigner's hands, she was an absolute lamb. I'm convinced the man is a cat-whisperer, except I'm pretty sure he'd laugh and tell me it's just a matter of working with the cat properly. read more

I fell in love with 2 white feral kittens, that I plucked from a tree. They loathed me; I loved them. Cats will live 15-20 years.... how will this end? They were 6-weeks old, while, I am well on the other side of the life curve.... and have never had a pet before... hey, been busy... These were Martians to me, but even a heartless, soulless person like me can sprout love for homeless kittens in the rain. I looked on the web for the best vet, to see if they were boys or girls (I couldn't call them 1 and 2 forever...) and for blood tests and vaccinations. Dr. Weigner realized, that I needed a fast education on cat's minds, needs, and training...and with this, he prevented me from making mistakes of discipline, tone, voice, habits, food, sleep which would have echoed thru a cat's brilliant memory for years and years ahead. At 7 months, it was time for their spaying procedure... I dropped them off, and for the first time in 7 months they lived a day, without my constant hovering... but I knew they would be in loving hands...just not my hands... I continue to go to the Cat Doctor for selfish reasons... I want a team that I trust with my potential investment of 5- 10 -15 years of emotions and love. My heart would be bankrupt, long before my purse if anything happened to them... (and we cannot even afford second car). At 8-weeks old, I invested in cat insurance...so if there were any disasters, I wouldn't have to choose between $$ and my dearest friends. I picked Purina cat insurance, and they return a check within a week of submitting a claim, never questioning me, or adding paperwork... they just mail a check. Now, a year later, they are no longer Martians. We pay attention to their "needs", and they are mutually respectful, cooperative. They are daily moments of pure love, laughter and contentment. We do communicate, but luckily, hopefully, they do not know I am laughing at them. Having been taught how to take care of kittens, on that first visit, I will be repaid for the next 15 years of peace and joy in our home. Hopefully we will never have a cat emergency, but, if I do, I am relieved to know I can go to Drs. Weigner & Stumph, and all their techs and staff with the care of these dear sweet things. read more

My experience: I recently moved from Atlanta to Philadelphia and the Cat Doctor was kind enough to get all my cats records together and provide a list of Vets in my new city. I ended up going to a VCA hospital since I move frequently and there are locations everywhere. However I had a horrible experience there and ended up leaving without any services redered. My cat freaked out and they wanted to sedate him to just give a routine shot! I immedately called the cat doctor to ask their advice and experience with my cat to see what the heck was going on. The front office had Abby call me back and Abby was so fanastic and caring- and my cat is no longer even a patient! She went through all of my cat's records, listened to my concerns about this bad visit, gave me recommendations on how to make his next vet appointment better and gave me a great recommendation to a legit cat doctor that she found out their doctors actually know. Even though it is a further drive who cares if your cat is happy and taken care of! I can't say enough how it made me feel to know the cat doctor is still caring for me and my cat several states away. I would definitely recommend! Regarding others posts that they are too pricey- I think they are priced for their services. I was a little concerned after reading the other reviews on this site, but I had already made the appointment so I went anyway. I had a completely different experience with this clinic from that described by some of the other reviews on here. The staff are exceptionally friendly and attentive. Dr. Weigner spent a good 45 minutes examining my cat, and explaining the potential causes and treatments of her condition. He explained that to get a complete diagnosis would involve some expensive tests, and then told me that he didn't feel they were necessary because we could ultimately establish what was causing a skin condition though seeing how she responded to different treatments. This is in direct contrast with the other reviews on this website who felt they had been overcharged or deliberately upsold. I can only say that I felt that the doctor went out of his way to explain that the tests, while helpful, did not make sense from a practical standpoint. Complete ripoff. Our cat wasn't eating, but it wasn't anything serious. The Cat Doctor charged about $100 for a visit without any shots, tests or medication. Then he tried to charge $75 for pills I previously bought at CVS for only $10. He then refused to give a prescription for another medication and charged me $70. When I got home I looked on Petmeds and the same medicine was only $6.49! This guy is running some sort of scam. read more
