The Cat and the Moon in Sligo is a great shop with friendly staff and unique items made in Ireland. You will find artwork, soap, jewelry, sun catchers, scarves, stuffed animals, cards, pottery and so much more. As a traveler I don't want to go to a department store or places that sell goods that I can find at home. This is just the kind of shop to find special items for yourself or loved ones back home. They stated that they can also ship to your home. This is a must see shop in Sligo! read more

This is a Fantastic Place to buy some Irish themed gifts. Its got a great selection of Irish Jewellery. Fine Arts and Hand Crafts. I treated myself to a stained glass piece to hang in my window and catch the light and was lucky enough to receive a beautiful gift of one of the "children of Lir " figures from featured artish Rachel Quinn. The owner is a jewellery designer for over 10 years and you can order your very own designed rings etc. Upstairs is an art gallery which has two exhibits currently including NATURAL RHYTHMS by LINDA HUNT The Cat & The Moon Gallery is delighted to host an exhibition of limited edition prints by Linda Hunt,opening on Saturday July 12th at 12.30pm. The showcase venue in the Northwest of Ireland for handmade Irish jewellery crafts and art. We carry unique bespoke craft collections from over 120 of Irelands leading artisan studio craft makers. The Cat and The Moon is also home to the studio for multi-award winning contemporary Irish jewellery designer Martina Hamilton.

History

Established in 1989.

The Cat and The Moon was established by jewellery designer Martina Hamilton in 1989. Martina set up the shop to provide a showcase for Irish artisan / studio craft makers from all over Ireland. The shop is named after an evocative play by poet W B Yeats. For over 25 years The Cat and The Moon has been a brand name synonymous with contemporary progressive Irish craft and design, a champion of established and emerging designers from all over Ireland.

Meet the Business Owner: Martina H.

Martina completed a fine art degree in sculpture in 1988 when she then commenced training as a jewellery designer and maker. Through developing her own designer jewellery brand it was apparent that dedicated galleries for Irish handmade craft and design were badly needed in Ireland. With that in mind Martina established The Cat and The Moon alongside developing her own designer jewellery brand. The Cat and The Moon quickly became the showcase outlet for craft designers and makers like herself from all over Ireland and has remained in the vanguard of contemporary Irish design and craft for over 25 years.
