A very fine, complete, upscale athletic facility in the Bitterroot Valley. Formerly River Bend Athletic Club which was destroyed by fire a number of years ago. Owned and operated by Jim and Randy, The Canyons is the only facility in the Valley that has interior tennis courts, an interior swimming pool and interior racket ball courts. Did you catch the word "interior?" Comes to life during the long winter months. There are weight "circuit" machines, use-alone press and leg thrust benches, free weights galore and the standard bench press arrangements, There are also racks of dumb bells, curl and straight bar sets and other weight equipment. Treadmills, stair steppers, climbers, ellipticals and all form of "bike" machines, most all, programmable with TV screens or special program screens. Staff is great with a wide array of personal trainers. There are a full calender of activities including a senior group, pool aerobics, step and other extremely active workout sessions all let by Canyons staff members. Full locker rooms with showers, sauna, steam, hot tub for men and women are kept extremely clean. Finally, there is a refreshment area at the front desk with healthful munchies, smoothies and Xanan coffee brewed to order. Hours are very generous, opening at 5:30am M - Th and closing at 9pm, Friday 5:30am - 8pm, Saturday 8am - 6pm and Sunday 10am - 6pm. Very nice facility. Been going there for 7 years and been taking my son for the last year who is a young athlete training for football season. According to the management here they don't care about young athletes. This place has really let me down and it looks like we will be heading to the other gym read more

I enjoyed this place a lot. It is a bit crowded but there are a lot of options. The view of the mountains is perfect and the gym isn't that busy typically. I'm nervous to write a good review because I like that there are not a lot of people there often haha. read more

I wanted the Membership so I could take my kids swimming. There is a great availability for open swims, which is why I gave the review a 2 and not a 1. I'm incredibly disappointed that when Jamie is doing lessons, there is only 1 lane available for all the families to be in. I know about 10 people that cannot go swimming at the canyon because the chlorine level is too high. One time Chad Eakin shocked the pool because of a feces or vomit incident . He opened the pool back up when the the chlorine level was 13.5. The state regulation is 1 to 10 . I had a rash for 2 months . This was the second gym I tried here while visiting. First was the Iron Horse which I reviewed and so I was eager to see other options. Other than being a bigger facility, this wasn't that much better. We first walked in and stood in front of a woman at the desk who literally didn't even acknowledge us for like 5 minutes. Now when you're just standing there, 5 minutes is a long time to say NOTHING. What made it worse was a known member walked in and she looked and said "hi John!". Finally after she was done doing whatever on her screen, she says how can I help you? It was just really bad customer service, the end. The equipment options are great, the issue is they are so packed together you are jammed in like sardines using a machine or free weights, makes it a little weird. The building itself and views are beautiful but that's about all it has going for it. The price is double than Iron Horse for a day pass which is even less appealing. Facility is not kept clean and many machines are down for months at a time. Locker rooms are disgraceful!! The owners are never around and the people who work there evidently don't know what to do. read more

Oh my......What a beautiful setting, friendly employees......that is where it ends......This Gym is in dire need of a good cleaning....The Ladies Locker Room is a disgrace....Spray window cleaner to clean sinks.....really.....I don't think the toilets have ever been cleaned......Dust clinging to the walls, beams, dressing rooms......the floors are dirty....the showers have mold in them.....Some of their equipment is in good condition.....most Free Weight Benchs have ripped covers....as do a lot of the weight machines.....Its a shame to see such a nice gym with a Pool, Steam Rooms, Sauna, Hot Tubs, etc to be in such a sad state.....I really would like to see some pride of ownership in this gym. first experience: club was a lot smaller then expected, the photo of the loby is literally everything... the American flag out front looks like Charlie browns Christmas tree... parking lot badly kept... gym was gross, didn't have much equipment, and the employees didn't know how to perform the job and had no management to help so I had to walk the lady through her own job all the way from hello to have a nice day... membership experience: employees practically non existent and so I never got my initial tour, equipment was difficult to use and they only had the bad equipment that you should avoid using... my home gym turned out to be better equipt.. equipment didn't appear to be cleaned, dispite not having the basics, it was obvious a lot of money was waisted in the building... present experience: I asked to cancel my membership as I recently moved and was blindsided by the assistant manager Morgan farrel who was really rude, telling me only "I needed to submit a request in writing..." so I asked her for her email address and kindly emailed a request of termination. Morgan farrel replied that she would grant my request, but not before charging me a $200 early cancellation fee that I had not been informed about when singing up with the club I told them I wanted a month to month membership but the employee had no idea what she was doing and management was no where to be seen so I didn't pay much attention too the contract however in the contract it states I should only have to pay $50 because I provided proof of a legitimate change of address and Morgan farrel agreed I was correct and charged me again another $50 and then charged me for several more months of membership that I had not used and denied knowledge of what refund I am requesting! Morgan farrel and the canyons athletic club are deceptive, fraudulent, thieving antagonists and I am sick of them personally harassing/stealing from me read more

Such a shame to this once well managed gym fall into such disrepair and obvious neglect! I'm not sure what's going on here but there's hardly ever anyone behind the desk and apparently no manager. I know it's been for sale for years. I wish someone would buy it and bring it back. read more
