I could not believe the service and the selection of scents! The employees were more than helpful, they were excited to assist. We all made our very own candles, room scents and body oils. I'm sad that they don't offer body oils anymore (not sure why they were removed) but hopefully they'll make a come back really soon. You'll have to experience Candle Lab OTR for yourself. I've been to The Candle Lab location in Anderson Township area and really loved it. My best friend made reservations for my birthday and I was joined by her daughter to make candles. You check in and they give you a list. From there you write down your favorite scents. You pick up to 10. You then have a seat and their staff will assist you with the best pairing. You will mix the oils in a jigger, pour it on the candle jar that you choose to picked up front. (We all got to pick three jars a piece. You're preference on how many candles you want to make.) Once you put the oils in the candle jar you mix until it's even and that no oils sits at the bottom. Here are the scents I picked: Brown sugar Baked bread roasted chestnut Cedar Exotic oud Agarwood Bay leaf Autumn leaves White tea The jar has to sit a couple of hours before you take it home. If you're reservations is close to closing time, you will have to pick it up the next day. If you don't want to make your candles, you can buy their different scents on the shelf. Each are organized and categorized. Their soy candles are high quality and the scents are not overwhelming. What a great experience and everyone was so helpful. This was a really fun experience! We had a group of about 10, and all the workers were so helpful and accommodating. The website boasts over 100 scents, and they aren't lying. There is definitely something for everyone. You can choose your candle size and holder of your choice. I mixed honey crisp, Georgia peach and burnt sugar. I am happy with my candle. I loved this place! I was visiting OTR and wanted to make some unique gifts for some friends. There are so many scents that its hard to choose from! They also feature seasonal scents as well. They offer a variety of scents from herbs, to food, to alcohol, and even nature-inspired scents like canabis and snow. You can pick up to 3 scents to mix and can add them to a variety of products such as candles and bath products. For candles they have several different size and colors of containers to choose from. Once you have your scents you can decorate the labels for your products. After that then you can begin mixing your scents and adding them to your products. I'm sure it gets crowded on the weekend but when I went on a Thursday afternoon I was the only customer there. The staff was very friendly and helpful! After the mixing your products need to sit for a while but there are lots of great restaurants and bars nearby to kill time at. This was the absolute coolest experience ever. I am addicted to candles and my husband brought me here as this had been on my bucket list. This is a great experience as a date (with a willing partner), a fun girlfriend experience, a small party, something to do with your mom or a really cool gifting experience. The process is super fun for someone who loves scent. There are 100 or so scents - rain, Earl Gray, tomato leaf - so, so many more, that you sniff and log that you like. A friendly staff member helps you put your favorite scent notes together (up to three) and you decide on a product to scent. There are various candle jars, wax melts, oil, lotion, perfume and body scrub. The next fun part is taking the essential oils and mixing them to the exact combination you want - more of a certain scent or less of another. I made a reservation and went to the candle lab for a friends birthday to make candles with a group of my friends. It was a really neat experience. Although for the price, if I ever want to do it again I will probably do it myself. The process is neat cause there are so many options but overall it was very expensive per candle (At least for me as a college student). This is in OTR which is known for being more expensive so this is on brand. The facility was clean and there were coffee pallet cleansers to use to continue smelling scents before choosing them for your candle. Staff was really nice but did not seem like they wanted to be there very much. I am taking a star off for cost cause I thought it was more expensive than I would have liked to spend on a candle. However, for the experience of doing it one time it was worth it. I do not plan to return to this location but would rather watch a YouTube tutorial and do it myself at home and could probably do it cheaper. Overall a very nice experience. Definitely recommend it to those that may be interested in candle making. If you aren't blindsided by the cost it probably isn't that bad. I love this store. Such a cool place to go to whether you need some "me" time, or want an activity to do with your girlfriends or even for a date. Being able to design the scent of your own candle is so cool. The way it works is you are able to smell dozens of scents and then you write down a list of all of your favorite ones. Then you sit down and consult with the staff and are able to select up to three different scents to mix within your candle and they are so good at it. You even get to design the label for it. The candle is a bit pricey, but i love that when you burn them it has a nice strong scent that fills the room you burn it in nd it does not burn quickly, it lasts a long time. You are even able to return to the store using the original candle jar and save a couple bucks on the next candle you pour. It is such a fun business concept and well worth the cost! read more

They assisted in making numerous candles I wanted . they help with pairing the perfect scents so it's not to much of one of something and not enough of another. Came to the candle lab for a corporate event and had a lot of fun making my own candle. They have SO many scents to choose from ranging from sweet to fruity to spicy to interesting (cannabis, rice, and old bookstore are ones that come to mind). How it works is that you first make a list of scents you'd like to include in your candle and from there, one of their experts will help you select which scents go well together to help make your final candle. This is so much fun! And not even super expensive. It's kind of nice to be able to develop your own candle versus having to buy what is already premade for you at places like bath and Bodyworks or Yankee candle company. I had my 27th birthday party here with six people and they accommodated us great along with walk-ins and another party. It really doesn't take long to make the candle the hardest part is sniffing all of the scents and making a decision on which ones you like and which ones you don't and then of course having to narrow those down to your top three for your actual candle. Mixing the smells is also exciting because then you get to see which ones overpower which-which is kind of cool. Then you get to develop your own sticker/label for the candle that goes on the bottom that's an awesome way to make a memory! Now the downsides all of this is that my group came in at 6 o'clock and because it takes an hour and a half for the wax to settle and your candle to be ready to take home we had to come back the next day and pick up because they close at 8 PM. So words to the wise I would come early enough so that you can have time to make your candle and have it set. Have fun building your candle! read more

We had such a good time making our candles here this past weekend. I've been looking into checking this place out for a while because me and my girlfriend are obsessed with candles, we have them burning constantly, so how perfect would it be to make our own unique ones? I won't go into the details of the process because so many other reviews have already covered that. I will say that we went on a Saturday morning right when they opened, we were the first people there, the place was slowly filling up as we picked our scents. When we came back 2 hours later to pick up our finished candles the place was completely packed. This was on a very cold day, so I imagine on a nice day it's even busier. Basically if you are going to go on a weekend, go early, otherwise you'll more than likely have to wait for a while (or even longer) to make your candle. Anywho, I went for more of an apple cidery combination while my girlfriend went with a coffee/tea mixture. Both ended up smelling wonderful. In picking out jars for each she went with the standard Candle Lab style, I was lucky enough to find a jar with a Team Fiona lid (Yay!) The process is pretty cool and it's a lot of fun. I could see how bringing a group of people there would be pretty awesome. Now that we've gone we will for sure be going back and we will bring others along for the fun. We came, we smelled, we poured, we had SO MUCH FUN at the candle lab!!! Super fun date night idea. We started by smelling ALLLLL THE SMELLS and writing down our favorites. Once we were done, we went to the table and they helped us pick three scents from our list that would go well together. I picked verbena, jasmine, and orange while my husband picked pine, peppercorn, and orange. We created little labels for our custom candles, and then we poured the essential oils into a little jigger, smelling as we went to get the right mixture of smells. After we mixed it into the wax, we had 1.5 hours to kill before our candles set! Luckily there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby so we popped over to Taft House for dinner and then 16 bit bar for some arcade fun. When we came back, our candles were ready to go in gift bags! You can also make body spray, soap, lotion, etc - something I definitely want to do when I come back! Stopped in here while on a wait list for a nearby restaurant. First of all, I only use soy candles as they burn more purely. Secondly, they have the most amazing assortment of scents you can possibly imagine. Lily of the valley is my favorite, but following close behind are hazelnut, georgia peach, coconut and campfire. You can do an 8 oz 60-hour burn candle, 12 oz 90-hour, or a 16 oz 120-hour burn candle. If you want, you can bring in your own container. They sell all sorts of good smelly things there: reed diffusers, spa salts, bubble bath, shower gel, sugar scrub and lotion. It was neat to see that you could design your own label for whatever you make, too. Great fun to go with co-workers or friends. read more

The Candle Lab is a great place to stop in during your time in OTR. You are greeted by super friendly staff and immediately introduced to the process. You first pick out your candle jar (or other jar depending on what you're making). You next get to go and smell all the different scents and make a list of which you like. They encourage writing them all down, even if you do not think they will go well together as they will then review all the scents and provide you with a suggested scent pairing to use at the end. Once you've found the scents you like, they suggest 2-3 scents to be paired together. Once picking your scents you get to mix the oils yourself - this allows you to pick the strength of each scent in the mixture. Next they take your scented oil mixture and add in the soy candle wax. While this happens you are given lots of colored markers to be able to name your candle/scent, decorate the label, date the label, etc. And that's it! The entire process can take as little as 10 minutes to as long as you would like to decide on your scents and make your label. And now that you're done, you have to wait for the candle to be done setting and cooling. The waiting process is a couple hours - definitely plan this around getting food/drinks in OTR and exploring! read more

I am bringing my girls back to do candles next week. I went here with some coworkers for a team building activity and fell in love with this shop. First, they have scents for everything and everyone! First, I'll go over the process: at the Candle Lab you pick out which scents you like using the already made candles in the store. There have to easily be 100 scents to choose from. And a lot of very interesting and different ones too. I picked a cran-boo (cranberry + bamboo) mixture and it smells fruity and clean. After you pick your favorites the people who work there will help guide you in which scents will turn out the best in a candle. From there, you mix your essential oils, which just involves pouring them into a little dish in the ratio you want and stirring. The person working will pour the wax in the container you choose (so you don't have to worry about spilling the wax!). All you have to do is pour the oils into the wax and, again, stir. When you're finished, you'll have to let the candle harden for a couple of hours at the store and they'll clean up the edges for you before you pick it up. I'd recommend grabbing a drink or lunch, depending on your whim, while waiting for the candle. Super easy and fun. I took my mom here for her birthday and it was a cool experience. We went in the middle of the day on a Wednesday and just walked right in. There was also a woman in there mixing a candle by herself - I can see this being either a solitary or group activity! read more

My group of 14 had an absolute great time at The Candle Lab OTR. We reserved space for our party, but they still allowed walk-ins. Fortunately, we were the only ones there during the time of our party! We also got to apply the buy 3 candles, get a fourth free to our large group. We all ended up only paying about $14 for the 8 oz candle jar. This is such a great price for the fun experience and lovely smelling candle! The three employees there with us were excellent in helping us create the perfect smelling candle for all of us individually. We had a great time smelling all of the different scents and pouring our candles. We were able to pick them up that night after we enjoyed during at The Eagle, just across the street. The Candle Lab is such a neat experience! My sister took me for my birthday, and we both had so much fun creating our own personalized candles. The employees were all wonderful and helped us combine the scents we loved into the best possible candle for us! The process couldn't be simpler or more fun. When you arrive to make your candle/s, you are given a clip board and encouraged to smell all the scents you would like. They are all displayed in alphabetical order along the wall, each scent also has an image. You write down all of the scents you like on your clipboard -without worrying whether they go together. After you are finished with that step, you choose the type of candle jar you want your candle to be made in. They have all sorts of shapes and colors including mason jars. When you are finished with that step, you sit down at the bar and one of the employees helps you decide what scents to move forward with. They ask you which scent was your overall favorite, and then they help you pick other scents to compliment that one. They recommend using no more than 3 scents per candle. Next, you get to mix the scents you have chosen together. For example, you can do mostly one scent with hints of another. Or you can do equal amounts of all the scents you have chosen. After that, you get to mix the scented oil into the candle wax inside your chosen container. Then you can create labels for your candle. They have many colored markers and pens so you can get creative. After all of this, it takes 1.5 hours for your candle to set. However, if you don't want to wait, you can come back and pick up your candle on another day - they will hold it for you as long as you'd like. We used to 1.5 hour window to explore all the other wonderful shops in the OTR neighborhood. My candles turned out fantastic! The first one I made was fig, pomegranate, and morning dew. The second was hops, yuzu, and mint leaf. They both smelled fantastic and burn perfectly without turning the container black. The Candle Lab was so fun, and I'm really enjoying my beautiful candle! I can't wait to come back to make another custom creation. The Candle Lab offers two options: purchase any of their premade candles with any of their hundreds of really cool scents (ranging from rosemary to morning dew to fresh linen to hops to basically any smell you can think of) OR make your own custom candle! Making your own candle starts at $17, which I thought was reasonable considering I spend more than that at Yankee for a candle, and I don't get to make it myself. To make your own candle, you first pick out your scents, which is the fun part. They can combine as many scents as you want into one candle, but we went with three different scents for our candle: cannabis (don't judge, we actually thought it smelled good!), hops, and morning dew. They surprisingly smelled really great together! With some help from the friendly people working there, we combined our scented oils and poured it into the melted wax. We also drew up our own label for our candle (now's your time to get creative!), and then we came back when the candle was done a couple of hours later. This was a fun experience! You can spend as much or as little time and money as you want here. I went in with a very specific idea of how I wanted my candle to smell and that I wanted to make a candle. And I loved the end result. But I can see where you might be conflicted and put two or three scents together with good intentions but not get the mix just right. I can also imagine going back and becoming frustrated if you want to make an exact replica of a scent you've already made (even if you know which scents you chose, creating the same ratio could be a challenge). The whole process is pretty bohemian and, like life, is best enjoyed with a relaxed attitude. You have your choice of candle size, but you can also make lotion, sugar scrub, oil for a diffuser... It's also a fun experience for a date night, girls night out, or as a family. My son just made a candle a few days ago. The longest part of the candle making process is definitely trying to determine your favorite scents. You can choose up to 3 scents to go into each candle. One of my favorites is Coffee Bean/Hazelnut/Dark Chocolate. The best value is to purchase more than one candle especially if you are having a hard time deciding. Buy 3 get 1 free. Make sure that you write down what scents you used on your label because it's easy to forget. Hold on to your Candle Lab container after your candle burns down and you can reuse the container again for another visit and save a few dollars.
