This park would probably be number one in my book. Has Miles abroad paved walking trails which connect to a much longer bike path through the area, as well as smaller off-road walking trails. All of this runs along side the river Which is gold standard for flyfishing! So you can hike, bike, fish, walk your dog, picnic, and I'm not done yet There is a water park here where you can basically go white water rafting or tubing!!!!!!!! Never even heard of such a thing. It was not too bad at first but then it got a little dicey where vehicle wheels had made deep ruts in the mud which then dried. Some water puddles in spots. Rocky and gravel in others. We encountered a lot of vehicles to me. A convoy of jeeps and two trucks on their own trips, it made for a dusty drive and we held off so we could see the view without the dust clouds blocking it. And it was narrow in spots where if a vehicle was coming from the other direction we would have been stuck. Steep grades too. The positives? It was like a fairy land in spots. With fall leaves softly falling in the wind and the aspens pressing in on both sides. Then the dark green pines in forbidding rows. The overlooks with breathtaking scenery of colors - browns, greens and yellows. Houses here and there. We stopped and accidentally found the property where scenes from True Grit had been filmed. I was constantly charmed by the lovely magical feel of the woods. And then scared at the drive itself. It felt like woods where elves live. Then we were through to the Telluride side. Such an amazing experience. Im glad he's such a great driver and navigated us safely on the route. I'll never forget that gorgeous drive.

BUT after you park WALK DOWN THE HILL. The trail is actually down the hill from teh parking lot. just a couple of minutes. there is a railroad track and then a little open gate. walk through the gate. the trail is well marked on front end. It is all open and there is absolutely NO Shade so be sure to have sunscreen and a lot of water and probably some snacks depending on how far you plan on going in. The views of the river are lovely. there is also a creek you could go splash in at some points during the hike. a petroglyph rock roughly 3 miles in. be sure not to touch them. it can wreck it. There are some cool primitive type shelters along the way as well. we only did 3 miles in as my friends were getting too warm. The heat is no joke. This really is a desert hike, be sure to be prepared.

Quick little walk from the car to the overlook, and you'll easily be able to see one giant rock balanced on the canyon. It's a nice view, and you'll also get to see more of the canyon. There are five stops on the North Rim Drive, and while it's still beautiful, it was my least favorite of the five stops. So if you are running short of time, this is one I would consider cutting. Road is unpaved, North Rim is highly underdeveloped, and there is no cell reception - so just be aware before you drive out to Balanced Rock.

Let me start by saying that I didn't have many expectations for my visit to this park. But after seeing the view from Tomichi Point, my initial expectations were completely shattered. Absolutely beautiful views of the canyons! You can either stop here for a simple beautiful view or jump into the Rim Rock Trail that goes through this overlook that connects the visitor center to the campground. I'd imagine when it's busy parking might become a bit more difficult. But we had no issues finding a place to park. There's going to be plenty of overlooks to experience while driving through the South Rim. But this is a great first stop because it really sets the tone for how the rest of your drive it going to go. Definitely stop by!
