The shop is brightly lit, the white and black keeps it modern, and I like how precise the fade came out. Certain aspects didn't hit at first, but after some quick feedback, fixed within minutes! Since I knew I wasn't planning on going anywhere, the "hair product?" request was appreciated, and Nyllen's vibe was "solid".

On several occasions, I arrived on time for appointments that I had booked in advance, only to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour and a half before being seen. This morning, I had a 10:00 a.m. appointment with Ricky. I arrived on time and waited approximately 40-45 minutes, but he never showed up before I ultimately decided to leave. I understand that delays can happen occasionally, but repeated long waits for scheduled appointments show a lack of respect for customers' time. If appointments are being offered, they should be honored reasonably close to the scheduled time, or customers should at least be notified of significant delays. Unfortunately, after multiple experiences like this, I can no longer justify spending my time here.

I've seen her keep the shop consistent throughout my 25+ years of going to her! You'll always hear the radio playing in Japanese, with actual comfy bench seats inside the shop as well. They offer a separate shiatsu service, typically done by a gentleman that is in the room next door. The prices are really hard to beat; as of July 25th, 2025, a simple haircut was $16, cash! She was stunned when I told her recently about the going rate for haircuts now! For those looking for a #4 guide, a burst fade, razor drawn designs, eyebrow lines, textured fringe, etc, unfortunately, this is NOT the barbershop for you. She will politely tell you that that's not what she does. She's a self described "Old Fashioned Barber", where everything is done the old fashioned way...scissors over comb, freehand shaping, light product usage after the cut, and most importantly...no ring lights/phones out for social media posting! At times it can be tricky to get an appointment with her, as she only does it through in-person visits/phone calls, getting booked incredibly fast! I know that she does enjoy traveling, so definitely make arrangements prior. Because she runs such a tight ship, make sure to explicitly say what you'd like prior to your appointment time, not afterwards (like if you want a shave/her to wash out your hair after your haircut). That being said, you're going to get an incredibly experienced barber with steady hands and decades of experience. That's definitely hard to come by, considering she's nearly 80! I hope to have my son have (Aunty) Kay cut his hair some day before she stops cutting hair for good!

I've got wavy hair that I flat iron and every stylist always gets this idea that if they just layer it right I'll wear it curly. Forget it sister, all you've done is wreck my hair. Anyway, it was getting out of hand and I just needed a trim, so I wandered down to the Aiea shopping center and figured I could just walk into a place. After being turned down at a couple of salons there for not having an appointment (who knew Aiea got so booked up??) I came upon the Aiea Barber Shop. There wasn't a line, the people were friendly, why not? When I said I just wanted a trim, she understood. When she realized my hair had wave, she didn't change her cutting technique, just turned on her flat iron. Hallelujah! And all for $18! I'll be back

New owners took…read moreover in 2021 and it has been a complete miss two times in a row (thank goodness I work from home). I've been seen twice by the male owner (he seats in the first chair). I get a low fade (low reg for military folks) with a trim on the top, and even straightened out bangs. Nothing fancy, normal male haircut that should be an in-and-out job within 20 minutes by any competent barber. Not so much here. Took 50 minute the first time (and I had to correct the barber that a low reg (which he said he knew what it was) was a straight across cut, not a U shaped drop in the back). Top was too long, and cut uneven. Line was messed up in several places in the back. Fade was from skin to like a 1 (maybe 2ish). He essentially gave me a high and tight, with the top left super long (look it up if you've never seen a high and tight). Second time took 35ish minutes, and though the sides were ok (still some uneven spots) he totally screwed up the top this time. Half ass shaved in portions of the back, front wasn't touched (after 2 months with no hair cut, it looked horrid). I literally went home, grabbed crap set of trimmers I have and evened out the top on my own. Used a pair of scissors to clear out the bangs and had to even out portions of the sides (though he had an uneven cut on the top, so there are rat bites where he cut too low compared to the surrounding area). Save your money and go elsewhere. No longer a place you can pop in and out of to get your hair cut. Jenny's Barber (down by Aiea Bowl) is a little pricier, but (for men getting a basic fade) does the job quickly and well. Taking my business there from now on.

Its right across the street from Diners in Waimalu. When I walked in, there was only one lady getting a haircut/style. The other lady cutting hair had no customers so I sat right away. I believe her name was Kim (the sticker on the mirror in front of me said so). She asked what I needed and just began cutting away. It never felt rushed at all. She took her time and really made sure that what she was doing was perfect. for the back and sideburns, she actually shaved it off with a razor. At other haircutting places, they just used the shaver to cut it. As for the style, she suggested I cut it short and "spike" my hair....cause thats how the young guys do it. She said that I chose and "old guy" hairstyle. Hilarious! I told her, "yeah...next time!". I'll definitely go back to this place for my next hair cut. Not only was it done well, it was done cheap. Only $13...so I left a decent tip. She insists that it was too much but it my entire cut plus tip is still cheaper than what my other place charged WITHOUT tip! See you guys again soon!
