I had heard a lot about this theatre, so naturally I was pretty excited to finally check it out! I went to see their show called Abigail.
I had heard that it was a heavy subject matter of a show, and it was. In brief, it's about a couple in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship without a way out. The show bounces from the present, back into the past, showing the slow degradation of their relationship while hinting at a sinister past in the woman's childhood. The set was smart, piles of moving boxes among a shower, fridge and a large white block. The set was used to represent a mountain and other settings from the past, with the help of the audience's imagination. Overall the show wasn't one of my favourites, not because of the subject matter, but more so that I never connected with the characters or bought into their struggle and issues.
I enjoyed the theatre, with it's mix of seating, including some very comfy chairs, basement feel and open air concept (although the day I went was a bit cold). I look forward to seeing more shows here and enjoying the bar which serves up drinks. read more
