Myself and my family we staying in Malham for the show. On the Saturday of the show we had an table booked here for 8 people. When we arrived we were put on two separate tables with two table numbers. Which, thinking that we booked a few weeks in advance wasn't very good. Our next problem was the bill: we had to order our food separately, one table of four and another table of four after, as i've already said, booking the table weeks in advance for 8. Once the food was ordered one table got the food in good time, but the other table was left waiting. After about 30 minutes the owner was asked about this and we found out that there order hadn't gone through. Finally once everyone had there food we found that there weren't enough cutlery on the tables for all 8 and a steak (12oz sirloin at £21.95) was mainly made up of fat and actually was a little less than an 8oz, we complained about this to the owner who was waiting tables that night. She said she would have a word with the chef. After that she avoided us as much as she could, which wasn't hard seen as we had been put in a corner. Later, once all the plates were cleared she came over and told us that the steak is supposed to be like that. We disputed, we are aware steak has fat on it but this was ridiculous, after disputing this fact we were greeted with rudeness of the highest sort. She made my family member feel a little stupid, explaining to us that the steak was locally sourced and that they hadn't had any other complaints that day about any of their food. Then as she walked away she mutter that if we weren't happy we shouldn't complain. Not long after this she reappeared accusing one of us of calling her a obscene word (half of us were outside smoking at this point, only 4 sat down) we don't know where she came up with this, but she was extremely rude again and said if we carry on we would be leaving, we stated that we hadn't paid the bill yet, so maybe she should speak to us a little more civilly. To this she threw our whole party out. Told us we had the leave the premises, and we did. We didn't pay the bill and we had no intention of not doing so, but as asked we did go to leave the pub.
At the door leaving the restaurant area we were greeted with the other owner who man handled one of my family members back into the restaurant area. From behind came the lady owner and infront was the male owner and 2 other well built men. There are four women in our group and this was rather scary for us all. Finally they allowed a few of us to pass, not without pushing one of the female members of my family and shouting accusations at us in the middle of their restaurant.
Outside my partner rang the police and they arrived within 30 minutes, whilst he made the phone call (which last about 10 minutes) the family member who had the steak was, you could say kidnapped, but basically the restaurant door was held shut and he was kept inside and forced to pay the whole of the bill. We did get the price of the steak taken off, but that doesn't make it okay for the way they treated every one of us.
Don't stay here and tell all you know not to stay here, the owners are horrible people and don't mind intimidating and threatening both women and men in order to get there way. It isn't a walkers pub any more, with a friendly atmosphere and caring owners, but a hellhole with not a care for their cutomers. read more
