Camping outside of Webster City, we always look for a local spot to try when we travel. Tonight,…read morelucky us, it was the Grid Iron. Be prepared to show a little grace, there were a lot of cars turning in there as we came up to it- from the food, I'm guessing they're always busy! My wife chose their mainline burger (no cheese) and house fries. Honestly, I think we could tell how good it was going to be when got out of the car and that awesome charbroil smell overwhelmed us. She loved it. I had the Chipotle Bacon cheeseburger on Texas toast, well done for me (they will prepare to your liking), which is charbroiled, then dunked in their home made bourbon sauce and served with Swiss cheese and jalapeños. The fries have some type of coating that makes them a little crispier and a little tastier. Even if you're cruising up I35, it's worth the detour into WC for a great meal. Plenty of tv's but even with a crowd, you can still have enjoyable conversation at your table. It's no wonder one whole wall is covered with "best of" awards. They deserve them. Bon Appetite!

Our server was friendly and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed the entire time. The biscuits and gravy were a favorite! It's hard to find a good gravy but they nailed it. The options to choose from were great! You had everything from fruit to French toast to mashed potatoes and fried chicken. I can't say enough about the friend chicken! The skin was battered perfectly and it was incredibly crispy while the meat inside was still juicy and delicious. This is some of the best friend chicken we've ever had - hands down!! The only suggestions I would make is #1 get there early because it is a popular place and #2 A 'cook to order' option for the eggs in the buffet would push it over the top. We can't wait to go back!

I was immediately greeted by a young hostess who was happy to find me a table, but I said I'd find a spot at the bar. I was immediately greeted by Sophia who handed me a beer list and was happy to pour a sample. That's nice service to start out with. She checked in but was never overbearing. A+. Their unique 60/40 beef/bacon burgers caught my eye...mine had cheese sauce, tons of bacon, and bacon jam. You can only have these cooked medium well or well done; for a burger I feel that's acceptable. Sandwich components were all delightful...the beer battered fries have a nice smooth coating and the house made ranch was the thinner variety was a great complement too. I'll kip the pretzel bun next time; I didn't find it to be a great complement to the components on the burger. I felt too many taps had crappy mass-produced domestics for the squares out there. I highly recommend the Mason City Cream Ale. Wish they sold their glasses! Credit cards have a 2.99% service fee. Thankfully, debit cards have no fee...which is the law. Not many places follow this procedure.

Timbukbru - Great nuts and quick service. Amazing place to get a small town brewed drink. Come on down to Timbukbru in Clarion, Iowa.

And oh yeah, tasty beer. I met an old friend there a couple weeks ago on a Tuesday night and was pleasantly surprised by the look and layout of the place. Some thought and creativity went into both the exterior and interior design. And then we got down to business: tasting beer. I started with the Session IPA (5% abv and 37 Ibu) and my buddy with a Mango wheat beer (5% abv and a low 18 Ibu). Both had beautiful color and tasted delicious. I followed that with the Hopshake IPA (6% abv and a hefty 61 ibu). Great taste. Enjoyable hop fix for me. An Oktoberfest is currently offered with a number of other choices and varieties including some collaborative ciders. And coming soon to the Clarion location is a Scottish Ale. One of my favorites. Crowlers available to go. There's a map in the hall going to the restrooms. It would be fun if guests could pin their home town and see just how far beer enthusiast travelled to get to Timbukbrü! Go ahead and pin Omaha for me. It's worth the trip and effort to get here. You won't be disappointed. In fact, you'll be pleasantly surprised and enjoy some quality, great tasting brews in Clarion, the middle of nowhere.
