The Britannia really isn't an example of how a pub should be. The alcoholic drinks are average, the soft drinks average ranging to extortionate (over £1 for a glass of squash?!) and the food mediochre. There's not much choice: mainly burgers and chips, which are better than MaccyDs, but nowhere near as good as they could be. Fortunately they'll only set you back about a fiver, but still, you'll feel that fiver could have been better spent. It takes ages to come too, and comes at different times. This wouldn't be such a problem if different times meant a few minutes between each, but it can take 10 minutes or more for different people's meals to come through. I suppose it's preferable to reheated or cold food, but still far from ideal. I'd hate to order food when they're busy.
The staff don't look too happy to be there either, and although they're quite professional, the place doesn't have a friendly and welcoming feeling. It seems to be more of a pub for getting drunk in than for enjoying a good drink. Apparently it used to be a bit of a hole and has since greatly improved, but it's still got a long way to go. read more
