Conveniently located in the heart of CBD, The Bridge Room was so welcoming after a long day of travel. The space is intimate with comfortable and modern design that is at once upscale, yet, still very approachable. It is far from a sedate temple for special occasions only. The modern Australian cuisine on offer is well executed and presented, with an excellent wine and cocktail list to boot. Appreciate their modern and relaxed approach to fine dining, it's a place where you are really made to feel at home. Very pleased with our experience and the value provided; would definitely return when in Sydney.
Atmosphere
- Upscale, luxurious feeling but without being stuffy or boring.
- Modern, cozy design sensibilities.
- Generally smart casual, but erring more casual seems fine as well.
Food
Quite agreeable range of modern Australian options. One has the option of selecting two to four courses (90-150 AUD). We found the food to be well executed, representative of local ingredients and well balanced. Third courses were nicely portioned. We enjoyed:
-Six Oysters (shallot, red wine vinegar, white miso dressing, chives): Fresh Australian oysters, what more needs to be said? Sauces were unique and paired well.
-Hunter Valley Quail (dressed leg meat, rhubarb, puffed grains, pistachio): Nice 'two ways' treatment of the quail; quite enjoyed the various textural elements, and the rhubarb was smartly employed.
-Murray Cod (white asparagus, chinkiang vinegar, aged pancetta, XO sauce): Delicately flavored, but in such a way the let the fish shine through. Great presentation.
-Ash Grilled Duck (mango, pineapple butter, lime leaves, puffed jobs tears): Cooked perfectly, really loved the mango and sauce, only wish there was more of both!
-Whipped Black Sesame (toasted sesame powder, melon, puffed black rice, coconut sugar): Enjoyable, but a tad heavier - good option for those who shy away from sweets.
-Wild Honey (walnuts, burnt pear, pear sorbet, honeycomb, spice biscuit): Incredible, loved this dessert - the ingredients paired together so cohesively.
Beverage
The Bridge Room has a nice selection of cocktails, and we loved the refreshing Yuzu Sour (23 AUD) - highly recommend. Wine list contains a solid range of options and price points, with plenty of Australian highlights. Not sure if there is dedicated somm, but staff we encountered seemed knowledgeable. With dinner, we enjoyed a lovely bottle of 2015 Bannockburn Pinot Noir (158 AUD).
Service
-Quite personable, attentive and happy to answer our queries and make recommendations.
-Handled issue with a main course with grace. Re-fired original dish and even brought another (wonderful) entree while the main was being cooked. On top of this, they charged for one less course than was had. Tremendous service recovery. read more
