I really want to love The Bridge. It's a bright, modern piece of architecture that enhances the look of the area. It has a library with computer space, a cafe and is directly attached to the swimming pool. The Bridge runs dance and exercise classes and performance arts too. It's definitely a great addition to the area.
However, the library always disappoints me when I go in. They have a small children's area that my toddler loves to run around and pick books for me to read to him, but the library they shut down to open this seemed to have a lot more books and a lot less soft play if I remember correctly.
When it comes to looking for a book for myself, again, I seem to remember so many more books. I used to spend hours at the library with my brother going through the books and picking ones from the stuffed shelves. It was a bit old fashioned and didn't let in as much light as you'd hope but it had loads of books, and to me that's the most important thing.
The library in The Bridge is well lit, modern, full of open space, but they're missing that vital thing. They just don't have a massive selection of books to browse through.
The Bridge really is a lovely attempt to refresh an area sorely lacking in every day things to do (unless you want to sit in a chain fast food restaurant or wander round a dank shopping centre that is). It brightens the place up and is definitely eye catching. However, once you're inside it just doesn't fill its potential. The Bridge could be vibrant, full of life and most importantly for me, full of books! Instead, everything feels a bit lacklustre and I'm worried it will end up fitting back into the area rather than enhancing it. read more
