Bought a sofa at The Brick last weekend.
The Brick scores well for selection and the friendliness of their store staff, but, and this is a BIG but, you won't want their delivery people in your house - at least I won't ever have them back again.
The sofa was to be delivered to our rec room in the basement via a staircase leading from the garage. After much grumbling (the older man kept repeating "Chaos! Chaos!") and huffing and puffing, they got the sofa into the house. Now sofas are awkward and I understand that, but there wasn't going to be a more straight forward access through the house to get to that room. They knocked a case of pop off a shelf beside the stairway and made no effort to pick it up after the sofa was moved in or apologize for knocking it off the shelf, but, hey, I didn't get too bent out of shape about that.
They flipped the sofa over and with a cordless drill attempted to screw the feet onto the sofa. They didn't have the correct drill bit and it kept skipping - all the while stripping the screws as well. The younger guy asked me if my husband had a drill bit they could use. I told him no. So the older guy sent the other guy out to the truck to look for a drill bit, then asked me to find him a screwdriver. I told him that we'd paid $70 for the delivery and I didn't feel that we should have to provide the tools for him to do his job. He made some comment about tools wearing out, etc. and made no apologies for his request. He acted like he was doing me a favour to put the legs on the sofa.
I got him a screwdriver, but then moments later I could hear the other guy rummaging through my husband's tools in the garage. I went up to see what he was doing and he told me he was looking for something to help them tighten the screws for the legs. I told him that I would appreciate it if he didn't take that liberty. Although it's doubtful, I will always wonder if he pocketed anything.
So with the skipping drill and the screwdriver I'd found for them to use, they continued to attempt to put the legs on my sofa. Then my phone rang and while I was distracted for about 2 minutes, they uprighted the sofa, tore off the rest of the packaging and asked for my signature. After they'd left I discovered that the legs were loose and the screw heads on the legs were stripped.
The Brick's customer service at the store was very apologetic and asked me to email their head office with exactly what I'd told them. They also arranged for another man to come out to replace the screws and properly install the feet which was done very promptly.
I have heard that the delivery personnel are sub-contractors and that there have been numerous complaints about them, but nothing's ever done except to send someone out to clean up their mess. I heard too that they work for several of The Brick stores in this area, not just the Brantford store.
I haven't heard anything from the head office yet. I emailed them two days ago.
I hate to say this because the store personnel were excellent, but, if you can't transport your purchase yourself, go somewhere else. read more
