However, after being taken to the exam room and changing into a paper gown, I waited nearly 45 minutes alone without anyone checking in. It was uncomfortable and left a poor first impression. When I finally saw Dr. Soufi, she apologized for the delay and was pleasant, but I didn't feel my concerns were fully heard. I discussed a history of ovarian cysts, recent symptoms, and questions about perimenopause and hormone replacement therapy (HRT). My concerns about the cysts were not evaluated further, and no ultrasound or additional testing was ordered. What troubled me most was being told I would likely never be a candidate for HRT simply because I had leukemia. Leukemia is not a hormone-sensitive cancer, and many blood cancer survivors can be considered for HRT based on their individual medical history. I was surprised that such a definitive statement was made without discussion of my specific circumstances or a willingness to explore the latest evidence or consult with my oncology team. During our conversation, I also shared the emotional impact my cancer treatment had on my fertility. I was told that I could "just adopt." While I'm sure the comment was well-intentioned, it felt dismissive of a deeply personal loss and lacked the empathy I needed in that moment. After the exam, we continued our discussion in her office, which was extremely cluttered with paperwork, empty water bottles strewn about, and patient records visible on the desk. That added to my discomfort. I truly respect that many patients have had wonderful experiences with Dr. Soufi, particularly in obstetrics. My experience, however, was not a good fit for my gynecologic and menopause care. I later sought a second opinion, where my concerns were taken seriously, imaging was ordered immediately, and a complex 6.5 cm ovarian cyst was discovered. I'm grateful I trusted my instincts and continued searching for the right physician.

I was recently called by this coordinator to schedule a procedure and she actually said she would call me back with the out of pocket cost due based on my insurance. She called back and told me I had to pay $1250 my deductible basically and this would be due at the pre op appt. I paid and showed up a week later at the surgery center and the front desk/check in staff took my insurance card and said "uh-oh we don't normally take northside employees. Does the office know you're a northside employee", to which I told her "yes, they have the same insurance card on file". She gave me the run down and apparently this procedure would've costed $350 at a northside facility but because I went where I was sent my the office, it was $1250 and I'll be billed an additional ~$500. Had no idea since the practice is NORTHSIDE Northpoint :( This whole issue with the surgery center not taking Northside insurance was not mentioned to me when the coordinator called to schedule. The front office said she would "pass this on to the office staff" but it def sucked to be surprised with this information in the day of surgery. All of the staff was great. And I ended up calling in the middle of the night TWICE because I thought the prep was taking me out, and the doctor who called back (Dr. Ramakrishnan I believe) was very kind and helpful. She was also patient given the fact that really, in hindsight, my issues, though extremely uncomfortable, were probably par for the course for colonoscopy prep. I highly recommend ATL Colorectal.
