Cute little bookstore. Prices weren't my favorite for used books, but it's hard to keep a business going lately.

I visited toward the end of August and the fields were at 75% bloom. I had a wonderful time walking around and enjoying the gorgeous flowers. Be sure to bring the following items if you visit the dahlia fields: - Hat: I visited on a warm, sunny day in August. The fields are beautiful, but there is no shade as you walk through. - Sunscreen: This goes along with a hat-- you don't want to get sunburn as you enjoy the beautiful dahlias. - Water bottle: On a hot day, you definitely don't want to get dehydrated! - Comfortable shoes: You will be walking through the dirt paths as you visit the fields, so be sure to bring your most comfortable shoes. - Money: There's a cute souvenir shop and also a few food trucks available with yummy snack. Most of these accept cash, card, Apple Pay, etc. There's also a covered area with tables for you to sit down, enjoy your snacks, and rest, especially on a warm day. There was plenty of parking when I visited on a Thursday, however, I can see how it could get busy and crowded on a weekend. Regardless, there were several parking areas, plus it's free!! For restrooms, your only option will be porta potties right next to the parking area. Bring hand sanitizer, just in case.

All of the staff were extremely kind and patient, fielding our many questions and helping us out, even holding the store open for a few extra minutes while we made our final decisions. Of course, the flower fields are breathtaking, and the outstanding staff just added to the overall great experience shopping here.

We went on a Saturday which was really busy and unfortunately they ran out of several food choices. However, service was really great which made up for it and the lines moved fairly quickly. My kids liked their pizza. One suggestion would be to offer a pumpkin beer for purchase. I did appreciate that they had cider options. My son's favorite activity was the ball launcher and my daughter's was seeing/petting all the animals. We had a great family day there which also included The Bird Man show and the Magic Show which both my kids enjoyed.

They were relatively everywhere, then when you go to look for a pumpkin, they are free roaming and you get to pet them and hang out with them. Such a beautiful animal. They have other farm animals and you can feed them with a cup- camels too!!! different food carts, drinks, and lots of entertainment for the kids- bouncy house, play structure, even corn maze. It was our first year and hoping to be back again soon!

Maps are key to finding anything, sadly no used board games. The kids section is great for how to draw books, love used books stocked next to new. The catalogue computers (just like a library) were helpful - told you both what section, shelf to find your both, and number of both new and used copies available which is fantastic (just make sure to write down more then section number if that exists, it still took a while to find a specific book - a obtuse and somewhat arbitrary categorization (ie a book we wanted was under mental games) Their summer reading program was amazing for $5 coupon to be used on purchase of anything.

The Burnside location takes up an entire city block and has SO many different sections. There are new and used books, gifts, and basically every genre and random little category you can think of. The different rooms even have their own names, and the whole place feels like a giant book maze. You could easily spend hours just wandering around. I loved browsing through everything. Even when I wasn't looking for anything specific, I kept finding things that caught my attention. The color-coded sections and maps definitely helped because otherwise I probably would have just gotten lost somewhere in the shelves and never been seen again. Definitely one of those Portland places I'd recommend even if you're not a huge book person. It's just really fun to walk around and explore, and I can totally see why Powell's is such an iconic part of Portland.
