They were very happy to take our phone calls when we first requested a cover be installed and they were Johnny on the spot about collecting our down payment. We were told that it would take about 30 days to install, this should have been the end of June or early July., we asked for updates and received no responses. The week after it was completed. We asked when it would be installed and they apologized and said that they would install it within the next 2 weeks. After those two weeks went by, we again had to try and call and email them multiple times before. Finally, they responded and said that they had some issues and that it would be another 2 weeks. Okay. Towards the end of those two weeks, we tried contacting them again, the same issue with calling multiple times and shooting multiple emails before they finally contacted us and said that they were still having issues and that they would be out the first week of August. We are now at the end of the second week of August and they have not installed anything for us or have given us any updates. We're going to be looking for our money back because this is not a great way to do business. read more

Do NOT buy unless you can repair anything! The product is great. But, you better PRAY you never need any repairs. Last summer (2025) the side rails on our boat guard broke and we placed a dozen calls and NOT one reply. Our boat guard is not functional. We lost a month of boating in 2025 (August/September). TERRIBLE PRODUCT!! This has caused so much frustration and made boating impossible at times. Though I watched all the videos John recommended for use and trouble shooting. Nothing is easy to use. The track that was installed was not screwed in securely at first. We fixed that ourselves. Every single time we've used this there has been a problem getting the boat covered Or uncovered. Now it's off the track again and we can't use our boat at all. I've asked for a refund and John called me an idiot. I will be taking this to small claims court. read more

I purchased this cover about 4 years ago it has made using our boat easier and more fun to go out on with little effort !! Had a couple of user issues to work around and made a phone call / text to John and we had everything back working nicely! My cover was the 1st one on the lake and now there are more showing up every year. I am so appreciate of John taking time to be there when I need him as the boat season keeps him and his team busy. We bought a pontoon boat cover from THE BOAT GUARD. The owner is John Highfield. He told us that there was a five-year warranty on his boat covers before we purchased it from him we received the cover and installed it on our boat. Two days after the boat cover was installed there was a 10-minute rain. There were approximately 3 gallons of water that had collected in the front area of the boat cover. The cover is designed to allow the water to run off. On this new cover, the water just sat there, which would greatly shorten the life of the cover. We called John Highfield and he refused to honor his warranty on our cover. This was very upsetting. This is a man that doesn't stand behind his word. This is a dishonest person, and we will not deal with him again. If you buy a boat cover from him and he tells you that you have a five your warranty, the warranty is non-existent. The Boat Guard was the best investment I ever could have made for my pontoon. Before owning The Boat Guard I would have to unsnap then re- snap my original cover. This was a huge detriment to even wanting to take a pontoon ride in fact we probably only used the pontoon about 10% of the time compared to now. I am 68 years old and I can uncover and have the pontoon ready to go in less than 5 minutes, by myself. What's even better is I can recover my pontoon in less than 5 minutes, also by myself. I have had my Boat Guard since 2016 so It has definitely withheld the test of time with lots of usage each year. As a result of using the Boat Guard, the marina I use to store and service my 2007 pontoon says my pontoon looks brand new. They have told me they see a lot of other pontoons that are only a few years old and have lots of sun/weather damage. John himself personally installs The Boat Guard so if you have trouble contacting him just be patient and know it will definitely be worth the wait. DO NOT BUY. John is not responsive after installation. We had a problem with broken shocks and bent metal from transportation. He never answered a call or text from me. His voicemail is always full. Bought the boat cover and it worked great. Was not told how to store over the winter, so the snow collapsed the cover and it was unusable after that. We kept trying to call to see if we could purchase the parts to try and put the cover back together, we even volunteered to go to the factory to pick up the parts. So far, nothing. It has been a $3,000 mistake to this point. Will try to see if they respond this year to our requests for help and if we get still no response, then will throw the whole thing away. read more

By far the worst thing I have ever purchased in my life! It only worked twice. I didn't have use of my boat for 2 years. When I sold the boat I took a $5000 loss because the boat guard was attached. If I had removed it before selling the boat would have looked worse. The boat guard does a lot of Damage To your boat. The materials they use are so cheap they break, tear and rust in a few months. NO one will call you back. They don't care if it works or not. I can't remember what I paid exactly but add together $2500 for boat guard, 2 years no use of my boat, and $5000 loss when I sold my boat. Don't purchase! read more
