The purpose-built Viewing Park offers unparallelled views of Manchester Airports runways, as well as an aviation shop, snack bars, picnic areas and a growing number of fascinating exhibits from the heritage of powered flight. I mean what other place gives you the chance to see and get on board the only Concorde in the world. You can access the flight deck; a DC-10 converted to create a genuine 'on-board' feel while never leaving the ground. It really is a sight... and hard to describe. No wonder it is one of north West's most popular outdoor attractions. You find yourself with some box seats for watching aircraft take off and land. Trust me you will not be disappointed, with around 600 aircraft movements each day, there will always be something for you to see. There are three raised viewing mounds giving you a clear 180-degree view over the airfield. So bring that camera if you turn up!!!!!! For the Concorde I suggest you pre-book as it is very popular, and will set you back £13. Which I suppose if you love this kind of thing you would probably fork out

Sheffield Station is the busiest station in South Yorkshire, serving the city centre of Sheffield,…read moreit is also part of the Supertram network, where you can continue your journey around Sheffield/Rotherham, and the station is located adjacent to Sheffield Hallam University. The station is managed by East Midlands Railway, who provide most of the major services going in and out of the station, including services to Manchester and London. The station is also served by Transpennine Express on the Manchester Airport - Cleethorpes line (via Doncaster), and also has CrossCountry services (Edinburgh, Reading, Newcastle, York) and many Northern services (local services around Yorkshire and Greater Manchester) Due to the construction of the station, meaning you have to pass through the station to use the footbridge for access to bus and Supertram services, there are no ticket gates here. The main concourse of the station is pretty noticeable and modern, including a couple of shops / small-take away kiosks, there isn't particularly places to sit down and get something to eat/drink in the station which is annoying, but there is a Superdrug and Marks and Spencer Simply Food. There are places nearby in the city centre for food, however. I hate the lift at this station which takes you up to the footbridge, it must be the world's slowest lift, the doors take forever to close up to the point they're forced to have a sign in the lift, it says they're "working on it", but it's been like that for over two years... I guess it will stay like that. I think the station is A-OK, but still miles apart from other stations in Yorkshire including York and Leeds. 3*

There is also a tram stop nearby for Sheffield services. It's really quite a nice station with easy access to the tracks on stairs and step-free. Departure board is easy to read and the signage clearly points out which way to which platforms. There is a beautiful sculpture / fountain out front.

It has three rooms in the main house and a seperate small cottage that is adjacent to the private car park. The three rooms are named after Derbysire landmarks - Derwent, Haddon and Chatsworth. Breakfast is ordered via a form handed in on the previous evening. What an impressive breakfast it is to, a wide range of cereals, or porridge to start, followed by either a fried breakfast where you can pick your components or a set breakfast like smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, omelettes etc. The owner of Valley View is friendly and gives advice on places to visit; the price is fairly reasonable too.

Fantastic Location…read more We were on our way up north to Scotland and did stay here for just one night. Located in the Peak distrtict it offers lovely views and has great walks just right in front of the doorstep. But more of that later. The B&B is very charming and the rooms are located on the 1st floor of the building (the Tearoom and kitchen being downstairs). There are two guest rooms, but we were the only ones that day. The room is very charming and has a comfy bed with TV and WiFi. Pretty spacious too. There is only one bathroom / shower to be shared, that's fine. But not only shared with the other guests, it's also the same the Tearoom customers use. That can be a bit of an issue, if it's a busy day. The host was very friendly and a breakfast is included. Unfortunately we didn't have time for it, since we left very early. Location is fantastic. Parking right in front of the building. The roads leading here can be quite narrow (one lane for both ways), but you will be rewarded with a great great landscape. We arrived pretty early and had time for a good walk. We were heading towards Youlgreave and went down and along the River Bradford. Great countryside, a fantastic walk - also for dogs. We walked a bit past Youlgreave and went back through Youlgreave. A good walk of about 4-5 miles and pretty easy. We had a lovely stay and wished we had a bit more time in this beautiful countryside.

Peak Cavern is one of four show caves in Castleton, an area famed for its extensive networks of…read morelimestone caverns. Peak Cavern has the largest natural cave entrance of any in Britain, and of the four caves in Castleton is the most natural (the form of the others being partially created by mining). Its historic name was the "Devil's Arse", so called as people in mediaeval times thought the caves as entrances to hell, and the air movement in Peak Cavern during flood made a noise like, well, passing wind! The cave experienced a limited amount of mining, was used as a piggery, and until the early 20th century a small community of rope-makers lived and worked in houses in the entrance. Tourist visits proper began in the 18th Century and really took off in the 19th century. Queen Victoria visited but was too large for the small coffin-like boat used to navigate one of the flooded passages, so miners blasted a new passage - part of today's route. She also had the name changed from its raw mediaeval one... An original boat is now on display, having been naturally excavated during a flood. Mining has in modern times reduced the water levels so, whilst the cave can still flood dramatically, the streams and pools are shallower than historically was the case. Today's tours are all led by a guide and last about 40 minutes. The talk covers the history, geology and natural history - the caves are home to specialised bacteria, water fleas, freshwater shrimp and blind trout. The walk goes through a series of huge chambers, linked by low passages. Sadly, most of the stalactites and stalagmites were cut or shot down in the 19th century, but the grandeur comes from the sheer scale of the chambers. Further in - but beyond the section open to the public - the system contains largest natural cave chambers in Britain - the aptly named Leviathan and Titan - the latter being over 450 feet high. Practicalities: it can be quite cold inside the cave, so carry a fleece or sweater. The cave floor is, in parts, uneven, wet and slippery, so flat shoes with good grip are also recommended. A few of the passages have very low ceilings and require you to duck for some distance.
