And for a non-sweet wine connoisseur, this wine is exceptionally aromatic and balanced. Seemingly, from the time we entered this place they had lots of visitors. Another of the North Alabama wineries, this place is impressive. After chatting with the owner, Keith, a gregarious and informative historian you can see that he has turned this winery into a competitor one that others in Alabama and surrounding areas, best take notice. Since they don't sell outside of Alabama or in restaurants at this point, they are known by simple marketing which is by, Word of Mouth. Darn, that speaks volumes on how good their wines are. From the outside, the winery appears modest and unassuming with a homemade cat sanctuary off to the side as you enter as well as comfortable seating if you want to sit awhile and drink a few glasses of wine. However, once inside you see a display of wines in a modern showcase, signage revealing free wine tasting, wall art and decor throughout. The focal point, an American flag with wines and champagne glasses adorning it, as though they were selected to display a vestige of the modern south which is now a true competitor in the wine game. Keith, personable, engaging and endearing. He served as the wine pourer, provided the archive of the winery and even gave my party of 4 a tour. He showed us the vats used for making the wines, bottling techniques to include corking and labeling as well as gave us insight into how the infamous Skeeter P came into existence. The wines ranging from sweet to dry and each having its own unique flavor of bright, aromatic, bold, bountiful, crispy and fruity to name a few descriptors of the full bodied taste. As a true dry wine lover, I was pleasantly surprised at the enjoyment of the sweet taste of Skeeter P (SP), made of peach, pear and apple. Keith speaks of its uncanning existence with pride and serendipity. Although I enjoyed the blueberry and pomegranate dry wines, SP sold it for me. Can't wait till my next visit to 'Bama to come back and see the new wines as well as the old favs.

A variety of dry, sweet, semi-sweet, whites, Petite Shirah, Chardonel and Rose' to name a few. A small vineyard with relationships with Auburn University & University of California at Davis. My favorite wine was the sparkling Muscadine wine which has won several awards. White, light, semi-sweet & crisp flavor. I would drink this wine with seafood, poultry or a vegetarian dishes. We purchased a bottle of this wine as well the Blackberry wine for the friends loving the more sweet variety. T-shirts, wine bottles, and wine accessories are also for purchase. Previously I'd gone to whatever ABC store I can find is but most recently tried the Wine Barrell at my father in-law's recommendation. They have a great selection of beers, wines, and liquors/liqueurs, and the shop is conveniently located. The owner is super friendly and greets you when you enter and is there to answer any questions you may have. The shop is clean and well organized. I will definitely be back next time we are in town!

This place is more of a lotto store than a convenience store…read more This is a Shell station, and gas is about 6 cents cheaper than the Pilot across the street. There's a Subway attached if you're wanting to grab lunch on the road. The bathrooms are clean. I didn't realize when I pulled up, but the primary business of this store is selling lottery tickets. Of the 8 other people in the line, I was the only one who didn't buy lottery tickets. Based on the number of Alabama tags in the parking lot, I guess people drive over the state line just to come here. Folks were getting $100s of dollars worth of tickets and then scratching them at tables set up just for that. Seriously, the ticket scratch off tables take up more room than the snack shelves. Because people are superstitious about getting the exact right numbers and tickets, the check out lines move very slowly. The cashiers are friendly. If you're in a hurry, maybe go somewhere else. If you need lottery tickets, this is your place.
