This place is still 5 stars for me and my husband. They really have a great selection of the "craftiest" craft beers. They also sell wine and spirits if beer isn't your bag! My husband is a huge beer snob and always finds something fun and unique to try here. You can also order a drink from their rotating tap selection and they now have a seating area where you can hang out and enjoy! We live much closer to beer cellar now than my first review, but with covid and kids haven't had a chance to enjoy this place enough, but we will be back to shop and drink in the future! read more

One of the last places me and my wife checked out while we were in downtown Glen Ellyn . This place is a casual bar and don't worry if you have children they are welcome here too. We accidentally walked in when they had trivia night as well. I love the band posters all over the walls. Shout out to whoever put up the Nine Inch Nails poster! They have some drinks you can grab from the cooler. Some highlights are that they have non-alcoholic drinks too and they even have THC drinks as well. I love the variety of drinks offered. They even have some drinks as well on tap. Staff here was very friendly and they do have plenty of events featured here as well. Overall, I thought this is a great casual place to check out. We have been going to The Beer Cellar for quite some time. Their bartenders are very friendly and the culture is pretty decent. They could use more TVs and sound for sports. Such a disappointment. My husband and I have been going to beer cellar for years and we have always tried to help local businesses. Well tonight we went in to celebrate my retirement the night ended with us being over charged. This isn't the first time they have done this. On multiple occasions we have been over charged a beer or two, once a 4 pack but now 6 beers. we finally spoke up and were harassed. instead of understanding the discrepancy and error on their part, they immediately caused a situation, accusing us when we could prove they made the mistake . Shame on you, we have been loyal patrons for years supporting you during covid when others weren't. you tried to make us feel like we did something wrong when your staff screwed up. The Beer Cellar is a great place to pick up a craft brew, as they have a vast selection, or to stop in for a casual adult beverage. Their atmosphere, offering, and staff make for a very enjoyable time. A friend and I stopped in on a perfect-weather night to have a drink on their "patio" (aka a part of their parking lot out front) and we had a great time. They have a good selection of on-tap brews, as well as some in cans, and the "bartender" is happy to entertain any questions or conversation starters you may have. After selecting our choices of beers we secured the last outdoor table and settled in. They also have a new indoor seating area that looks just as inviting as outside - great times can be hand year-round! After a second round we were on our way but knew we'd be back again real soon. You just can't beat what they are offering. The only critique I have is unavoidable: the train. It makes for some pauses in conversation while seated outside but, as a person who resides close to the train... it's a necessary evil. They have a couple tables set-up in the parking lot, but otherwise, it's a pretty minimal outdoor space. They only offer full pours of their draft beers. My bf and I love this place. We've used their curbside pick up, shopped around inside and had some drinks here as well. The atmosphere is very beer lover-esque. They always have unique and new beers to choose from which I appreciate and their limited draft menu has something for everyone. Great little craft beer store near the Glen Ellyn train station, in downtown Glen Ellyn. You're sure to find something there you might not find at Binny's. The owner seems nice, but he was pretty busy with a group of people, talking about beer and food, and didn't seem to notice me when I was standing there needing to ask a question. Once I got his attention he was very helpful. I was bummed they didn't have the Southern Tier S'mores nitro Stout, like Untappd said. :( But I was able to pick up a great new favorite of mine that I'd just had at lunch, Around The Bend Vera cream ale. I absolutely love the new location! Definitely more spacious and brighter than the dark basement they were located at before. Their selection of craft beer is quite impressive and the prices are fair. There are lots of great beers on tap; some we tried were Nelson by Alpine Beer Co, Victory at Sea (Ballast Point, on nitro), Midway ChiPA by Marz, Farmer's Reserve Pluot by Almanac, and my favorite, They Who Bear Honey (Hope Butcher For the World). I had two of those babies and it's absolutely fantastic! It's a pale ale brewed with blueberry honey, though I didn't taste much of either, but still incredibly delicious. Their beer on tap is on an electronic board and tied to Untappd, which was fun! At one point I owned the board with my check ins, which gave everyone a chuckle. I do wish there was seating at the bar, but not a huge deal. On my first visit at the old spot I met the owner, who has to be one of the nicest guys ever and very knowledgeable when it comes to beer. At the new spot, the guy (not the owner) was super friendly and we had some great conversations with both him and they patrons that stopped in. Good times. We'll be back! read more

I'm a craft beer lover, which is part of the reason why I have a gym membership and a separate budget category. When I discovered this place a mere 10 minutes from my house, I knew I was in trouble. While it is not a huge shop, it is well stocked with a constantly changing variety of brews to keep an enthusiast happy. Prices are reasonable-- if you're complaining that they're ridiculously expensive, you clearly drink domestics (does that sound snooty enough?). I believe the fellow who is always in there is Dave (the owner), and he is always a help when I'm feeling indecisive and want another opinion outside of Untappd. Apparently there is now a rewards program, so sign up if you pop in occasionally! The Beer Cellar isn't located in the most noticeable location but it's still easy to find: find the Thipi Thai restaurant on Crescent and you're near the Beer Cellar entrance. There's always a sign outside the staircase leading down to it (it's literally "a cellar"). Parking is all along the street, both parallel and diagonal. Some of the brewers you can find here are: 3 Floyds, Pipeworks, Church Street, Four Hands, Lagunitas, and many more. I love the variety of beers they have on tap with many of them being local. We enjoy IPA's, fruited sours, various barrel-aged styles and they always have a good mix. They tend to get the high demand beers from Phase Three, Hop Butcher and limited release beers. I wish they offered 5oz pours as an option instead of just full pours. read more

I admit it, I came in here several times over the last couple years looking around and never bought anything. I just wanted to check it out but kept talking myself out of purchases. But last week I was in Glen Ellyn to visit Run Today...which I found is closed. That sucks. I kind of suck for not realizing it. So it goes. I'd been thinking a beer stop was in order anyway so I walked over to Beer Cellar next. It's not a big place. There are plans to move soon to a bigger space but for now, it really is a cellar. What they have is very well curated, though. No big breweries, just quality craft including a lot of local stuff. This guy knows his beer. I told him my husband liked sours, saisons and farmhouse ales, he proclaimed them friends, then recommended several options and price points. He also pointed out some choices for me, who digs barrel aged stouts. I ended up with two of his recommended beers and their reward program which....you have to buy a lot of beer to qualify but hey. We do like our good beer. In short, if you're looking for quality over huge selection, and personal attention, this is the place to come. read more

Our friend and his wife own this shop. However, even if we weren't friends, I'd want to be his. The Beer Cellar has a modest supply of quality brews that can be hard to find, intimidating for the newb, but delicious for the open minded. It can be hard to miss from the street, with it being in the basement, but it's totally worth the descent. Dave and Lauren truly have a passion for beer and it shows with the quality and care they show when helping a customer make a purchase. I can appreciate Dave talking shop about the flavors of this, compared to the flavors of that and etc..My fiancé eats it up, and loves having someone else to talk to about the brews. We don't have the same flavor profiles, so it's really great that Dave can talk Lauren on the other hand is an angel in disguise as a beer connoisseur; A helpful hand for the ladies who want to change up the usual, but are nervous about the taste. I can tell her something that I do like, and a handful of things I didn't like in the past. She then points out why I didn't like something and how it relates or contradicts the flavors that I do like. It's so helpful having another sistah to talk too. This was a great find! They have a great selection of bottled and canned craft beers. My husband was on a mission for a newly released beer and was able to track it down here. When we stopped in to purchase it, we were excited to find out they also have a small taproom. There were eight beers on tap to purchase and try. They also had two nitro cold brew coffees. I've been wanting to check out this place since I moved to Glen Ellyn. So when I saw that they had a dollar off special going on during Chicago craft beer week, I made a point to stop in. This place is like a beer lover's haven. There is a large variety of different types of beers plus lots of different breweries represented including quite a few local Chicago breweries. The owner was a great guy and pointed us to a few beers we might enjoy after we told him some of our current favorites. Plus he was offering samples for craft beer week so we tried some of those too. He seemed like a really great guy! And I can't wait to go back and try some more beers! read more

My gosh. This guy is living the dream. Seriously...I wish I were him. He looks like a beer nerd. He is a beer nerd. He owns a beer store. He's nice as heck. He knows his stuff. It's super easy to walk past Beer Cellar, but you shouldn't if you have any desire for good beer. Hell, the biggest name beer I saw there was Sam Adams seasonal. Most of the other stuff are beers that even I haven't heard of, and I am a beer snob. They have some six packs, some four packs, and many 750mL bottles, which are my favorite. I ended up purchased two from Begyle, a Chicago brewery I've never had before, which were pretty good. Before driving back home to Kansas City, I decided to stop by and grab a few more that I wouldn't be able to get in KC - one out of Zion, and one out of Chicago. Prices for the Chicago area beers seem to be about $9, give or take, for a 750mL, which is a good price to me. Beers from further afield (such as Boulevard from Kansas City) seem to be about $9-$12, which is still about what I would pay for the same beer in Kansas City. So (a) great owner, (b) great beers, (c) good prices. I hope this place makes it, because I love it, and will return immediately upon my next visit to Glen Ellyn. read more

This place is smaller than I was expecting but I understand they are planning to move to a larger location at some point...I'm just not sure how soon. If you are just driving by they are easy to miss since they are currently truly a "cellar" and down a level from the street. But even though they are small they are mighty because this place is packed with many, many different beers. Is the selection as big as Binny's? No. BUT you WILL find a lot of unique brews you won't find at Binny's. PLUS these folks know their stuff & are very friendly. The gentleman working there when we visited was incredibly helpful and informative so if you need suggestions or have questions just ask! They also have a small cooler so you can get some ice-cold brewskis to go if you are en route to a BBQ or party (or just want to enjoy your beverage as soon as you get home!). I thought their pricing was right in line with what I would expect for quality craft brews in comparison to places like Binny's as well. read more

I have to say this place is pretty awesome. I would have rated them higher but, one of the times I went in with my husband, the person working was unable to answer any of our questions. The pricing is not horrible, but it is also not low enough to make me go out of my way either. This may seem like a harsh review but when my husband was able to explain more about the beer and the breweries than the person working, I was a little disappointed. With that being said, this place does have a decent selection of hard to find beers and appears to do a great job with tastings and events. read more

I come here pretty often. Obviously it is smaller and doesn't have the grand selection that the bigger places have, but they have quality. BC seems to always get beer that is super fresh. Like canned a day or so ago fresh. They also carry a lot Chicago area breweries. They still have stuff from other parts of the country but it is definitely more Midwest breweries. The best part about this place is the chance to get rare beers. Follow them on Facebook and you'll see what they get in. Just make sure you stop by as soon as you can!
