In fact the standards have been so high that I chose to eat here with friends for my birthday. The meal was perfect, every course was superb. The portion sizes are great too so the big eaters among us don't go home hungry The staff are friendly and helpful, and if they are not , the manager Martin very quickly makes sure they are. his level of attention is exceptional, i am sure he has Spidey sense, he always notices first my glass is empty, hurrah.

Monkey is the dog. Lola is the other dog but she doesn't like me talking about her behind her back so to save time let's just say Monkey is the cuddly one. *looks round nervously to check I'm not being watched* East Keswick is just up Wetherby Road- and the great news is you can get the 98 and 99 buses from town to RIGHT OUTSIDE THE DAMN PUB DOOR! Can't argue with that logic. The pub has a Snug at the front where dogs of all shapes, sizes and aromas are made to feel truly welcome. There's a tv for catching up with sports, an open fire, a doggly bowl and some cracking local beers and ales on offer. I had a pint of Mary Jane from the Ilkley Brewery and it was luscious. We'd first bunged the dogs in the car and had lunch in the restaurant part of the pub- which in contrast to the homely snug is really pretty classy for a pub meal. I think an evening meal here would impress. The staff were warm and welcoming and we had 3 courses for £15.95 each, with a decent bottle of red wine this brought the bill to just over £50, which is pretty reasonable for doing it 'all' and less pricey options were available e.g 2 courses for £12.95. This is for Sunday Lunch and there are weekday menus too. To start I had chicken liver pate which was smooth with a decent portion of chutney. Ade had ham terrine which was again sizeable and competently done. Both dishes were well presented and came with Melba toast. All very very good fare. For mains I went for the lamb cutlets and Ade the beef roast. The portions were again pretty sizeable, the roasts generous, crisp yet fluffy, mixed veg was properly al dente and had nice variety.....but it was the lamb that really stood out above everything else. Four almost fist sized hunks of perfectly cooked quality meat, pink on the inside, melt in the mouth and with a subtle and creamy peppercorn sauce to lubricate the GIANT mouthfuls I was pushing into my greedy face. It was sublime and my pleasure sensors were bordering on ridiculous. All this scumptiousness was topped off by Ade's dense and super sweet Sticky Toffee Pudding and the heavenly dark matter that made up my Hot Chocolate Fudge Cake. Yes. Yes yes yes yes yes. We staggered back to the car to 'release the hounds' and then enjoyed the friendly snug for a slow drinking pint as we digested our heavy yet heavenly loads. Monkey in particular made SUCH a friend of the barman that every time he passed by and patted her head she jumped up, wrapped her front paws around his thigh and tried to walk off with him. I thoroughly recommend The Duke of Wellington if you are out that way, and as a diversion for excellent food/drinks and company even if you are not. With a bus to and from the door there's no excuse my little Leodensians, go get some fresh air and hearty fare.

Right next to a toasty fire. The menu was What I expected from a gastropub and it took me a long time to pick something. I decided to go for the sausage and mash. The portion was a good size and the sausages (I can be a bit picky) seemed like pretty good quality. From a group of 12 I don't think there were any complaints about the food (even from the fussy kids). If this was the only experience I'd had at the new inn then I would have given it 4 stars. I then went on a Sunday the same week with my foodie friends after telling them that it was good food. Again I got the sausage and mash. It was quite an change from the one I had a few days earlier. Instead of fat nice Lincolnshire sausages they were more like the sausages I had for school dinners and the mash was starting to go dry like it had been sitting around for some time. It could be that with it being Sunday they were low on stock or they were under staffed but I wouldn't expect that from a place that seems so plush. I would go again with the hope that the food was as good as the first time :) I'd say give it a go and see what you think.

When you've seen one 'gastropub' you've seen them all. Perhaps not true but, until I see evidence…read moreto the contrary, that's all I've got. The New Inn (formerly known as the Bracken Fox) is a pleasant enough place, with cosy nooks and pleasant staff but it's perhaps not the best place for a drinking session as the prices aren't the most competitive. So, is it worth visiting for the food? Well, it's ok, I had an absolutely delicious starter of Tempura chicken fillets which tickled my taste buds rather nicely and was one of the few departures from the sort of standard safe fare commonly found in pubs. Moving on to the main courses, I decided on a steak which was cooked exactly as I requested and was beautifully tender if a little fatty. One of my companions ordered the optional lobster tail to go with his meal but they had run out of these and substituted 3 prawns which were dry and not worth the extra £2 (fair enough, they agreed not to charge). The steaks came with a few seasoned chips\wedges, peas and half a tomato (hardly adventurous) Another of our party has Coeliac disease and here we were majorly disappointed, there was little on the menu to suit and on asking for information about ingredients we were told that they couldn't guarantee gluten free. What sort of chef doesn't know what he\she is putting into dishes they prepare? In the end all they could offer was a plain chicken breast, white rice and some onion and peppers which they call 'Mediterranean vegetables. Desserts were, again, loaded with gluten and uninspiring. I have to say that the service was great, not to pushy and there when needed. One final, picky thing. I'm not a big bloke but I felt cramped so it might be nice if they allowed a little more table space per person.

Sadly, i think this place has had it's day and survives on the crowd who are too set in their ways…read moreto try anywhere new. We went on Sunday for an unplanned lunch out and I was initially surprised @ 1.30 to find it not packed to the rafters as we've seen on previous visits where we've waited nearly an hour for a table. After this visit, I wouldn't wait for a table there again anyway. We were seated fairly swiftly but ordering drinks took longer than I'd expect and the place wasn't overly busy. The waitress was a little over friendly when we'd placed the orders walking away with a 'cheers'- erm, what happened to a good old Thank You?! We waited about 25 mins for our lunches which weren't very complicated dishes- -Fish cakes and chips -Fish cakes and salad - Pie and mash -Pasta Primevera They pasta and fish cakes arrived together and then my pie was brought out- I could tell from it being put in front of me that it wasn't too warm and in poking my finger into my mash discovered it was actually cold. I immediately asked for the plate to be taken away which it was, brought back 3 mins later only slightly warmer (clearly microwaved!) and minus the gravy so this had to be brought back- at this stage that was also only luke warm and had 'separated'. My Mr's pasta had no heat to it either and despite specifying 'asparagus/green beans/broad bean and cream'- the veg was quite lacking but in it's place was a lot of peas and it was all stuck together- not creamy as it's suggested- I would have sent it back but he doesn't like to complain and said it was 'acceptable' in taste. The in-laws did comment that their 'smoked haddock fishcakes' not only were not smoked fish, but were not haddock either! We had asked for another round of drinks when the food was brought out but these never came and in all fairness, with the shoddy service we'd already had we didn't bother trying to attract them back to the table. Eventually- I think 15 mins approx after we'd been sat with empty plates, the 'manager' came to clear the plates and almost bellowed at us 'pudding'- I take it from this that it was him asking if we wanted dessert- with service like that who would want to hang around for dessert?! We politely declined and he was gone, quick as a flash before we could ask for the bill. It then took 15 mins longer for us to attract him back to request the bill and OMG (yes, i have just written that down!!!)- he shouted over the dining area to the waitress- 'gets these the bill' . Where the hell have peoples manners gone! My in-laws were quite embarrassed and we couldn't pay and get out of the place quick enough. If I could give no stars then I think this experience deserves it however there were a few redeeming features- -We were seated quickly without a reservation -The pie was lush- says on menu it's award winning and I'm not surprised -There is always plenty of parking. This place is a bit out of the way so a bit more of an effort should be given for a better all round experience. The staff are just lacking in any form of Customer service and the food has also taken a turn for the worse. I'd say bypass this place and head either to the Wellington or New Inn (formally Bracken Fox) for better nearby alternatives!

Unfortunately over the last couple of years it's started to go down hill. It isn't as clean as it used to be and the food just seems like warmed up microwave meals on a plate.
