Overall, an excellent experience! Before purchasing our bed, I telephoned Bedder Way with questions, and the customer service was great. My call was answered promptly, the person I spoke with was knowledgeable, patient, and cheerful. There was a delay in the bed's arrival, which left us scrambling a bit because we had broken down and gotten rid of our old bed in anticipation of a timely delivery (no room to get the new one in without the old one out). That said, the delivery folks kept us informed about the progress of our delivery. On the day the bed did arrive, the driver was very kind and careful with the handling and placement of the very large (!) box outside because it was too big to deal with inside our tiny home. It was a challenge opening the box and unpacking the bed parts, which was a decidedly Good Thing. All of the pieces were expertly and very solidly packed using wood and solid/strong styrofoam(?) pieces to prevent any scarring or scratching of any of the components. The directions for putting the bed together and installing it were very detailed and useful -- and my oh my, it is so comfortable - much more so than our former bed even though we used our existing mattress. We sleep on it every night, often closing it during the day to give us more room, plus it keeps the bed nice. I am small and 70 yo and can easily handle taking the bed up and down. There are two slight challenges: one is remembering that the legs at the foot of the bed stick out a bit when the bed is open, so it can be tough on your shins if you aren't mindful; the other is changing the bed -- it's a bit difficult (but, of course, doable) to get the fitted sheet on at the top of the mattress because the enclosure does not leave a lot of room to maneuver; and, caution is needed when one lifts the bottom of the mattress to put on the sheets and tuck in the bedding because the bed frame pops up in an effort to close because there is no weight on it at the moment. The only disappointment was the lights, which are add-on purchases, and not built into the bed itself. The "neck" on one of them isn't sufficiently stiff to hold the lamp in position. That said, it was not enough of an issue to bother Bedder Way about it, and we are managing. :-) [Bedder Way saw our review and sent a new lamp!! Another feather in their cap!] All in all, the Bedder Way Murphy bed was the perfect choice for a senior couple who radically downsized and moved into a tiny 1930 build duplex to be near family and within walking distance to all the necessary amenities (stores, medical offices, public transportation, etc.). We are now considering a Bedder Way side cabinet when we are able to manage it. :-) read more

Even though we were a bit intimidated after seeing the large boxes, everything fell into place pretty quickly. My wife ordered a Bedder Way murphy bed for her office so that we could have a bed for when company comes, but she needed something that would not be in the way when using her office, so this was the perfect solution. I was a bit overwhelmed when it arrived because it required a fair amount of assembly and I've had bad experiences in the past; not from this company but with other products. Oftentimes products that require assembly do not come with good clear instructions. Or the parts are poor quality; threads strip, things break when you try to put them together, etc. I also don't have a great deal of patience when trying to work through projects like this because of lack of customer support or proper instruction. In the case of our Bedder Way bed, however, I was pleasantly surprised. It was still a bit of a project, as it took me over 3 hours to get it all together, although I was working at a somewhat slow, methodical pace as I followed along with the instructions. Whoever wrote the instructions deserves a Pulitzer prize because they could not have been more clear. Everything was explained in such a way that there was no confusion about how things were going to fit together. Parts were all clearly labeled with photographs. The instructions were careful to point out what the user needed to watch for before proceeding to the next step. Adequate warnings were given along the way, such as needing at least two people to lift the frame into place when mounting it to the wall and making sure you have it securely mounted to studs in the wall, or have another method that is equally secure. FIND A BETTER WAY BUT NOT THE BEDDER WAY! THESE MUTHAFUCK'RS SUCK! This is the second bed I purchased including mattress totalling $2,944.00. The acutal color chosen from what was displayed on the Bedder Way website ended not being what they sent. Bedder will argue the difference but when your 3k bed arrives and it's not the color, then let us read your complaint! Oh yes, the customer service was condescending and belittling. An employee, Jason refused to acknowledged any accountability and hung the phone. I called immediately back and then he answered the call and pretended not to be himself, until I asked for Jason, then he acted as himself, as though I did not recognize his voice. It was a CRAZY experience! As stated, this bed is my second purchase from Bedder (twin $2k; queen $3k). Had I known previously their customer service is childish, rude, and would be difficult to work with, I would have never made these purchases. Horrible people! Totally disappointed! Contacted this company via their website as I have a very specific situation where I need to fit a murphy bed into a cubby hole in the wall of a 108 year old historic house. Long story short, they simply didn't want to admit that they didn't have the expertise to help me figure out how to make it work, so they just kept saying it couldn't be done. Then they lied and said they couldn't recommend what I was proposing due to the liability issues. When I asked what the liability issues were, they clammed up and shut down their chat feature. After two years using my living and dining room as my home office and gym, I finally decided to convert my small (roughly 10' x 10') guest room and started looking for wall beds. I needed one with a large enough desk to work on with my monitor, laptop, external keyboard and mouse, notepad and papers, etc. The Bedder Way Vertical Desk Face model caught my eye immediately due to its generous desk (45"L x 30"W for the queen) and solid wood construction, but I was very nervous about ordering something like this for delivery and paying up front. But I was delighted with everything. White glove delivery was not available, so I got threshold delivery, and the guys were amazing. It was very challenging to get the biggest box into the bedroom (immediately inside my front door) due to a tight turn but the guys were super patient and careful - we eventually had to take the door off. I'm glad I used a contractor to install the unit, as the large box in particular was heavy (approx 160 lbs, due to the attached desk) and of course it turned out my wall was not plumb, floor not level, and other quirks of my place made it a tad challenging (in two of the pics, you can see the shoe molding he installed to hide the floor shims he needed). The unit is BEAUTIFUL. It arrived with no damage (the packaging was extraordinary). The contractor did have to drill a few holes where there were only basically dimples in the wood, but that was easy. All needed parts were included, and directions were thorough (and there are videos on the internet). It is a little challenging for me to open the bed by myself because the handles are high (I am 5'7") but once I get it started it is easy and I will normally have help. In addition to the bed, I got two side cabinets with integrated pull-out night stands, drawers, interior light up top, and glass shelves (so the light can penetrate). Note that the switches for those lights are high - I can easily reach them but my 5'2" mom wouldn't be able to without a step, and you have to use your hand (not say, a broom handle). I got the lights inside the bed, too, and those switches are easy to reach and will be when in bed, too. It's all so pretty I almost feel I should just save the room to display this beautiful and well engineered piece of furniture. The desk is solid and has ample space to work on with all my stuff, and leaves room for my (limited) exercise equipment. Based on my research, price was very reasonable, especially for such a high-quality, solid wood product and excellent, dedicated delivery service. (I paid my contractor about $700 for installation, which took two guys several hours.) Do check the website re space requirements and sizes of shipping boxes. I inspected the boxes for damage and found one very damaged and inspected the contents immediately, no harm had come to the contents. Very well packaged for travel, awesome. The instructions included were clear and complete enough to assemble by myself. Actual wood and proper hardware was so nice to work with. We've had our murphy bed from bedderway for about 3 years now and it's one of the best purchases we've made for our home. The bed is well constructed and looks just like a nice solid piece of furniture when folded up. We have a thick double pillow top mattress in it, and guests are always impressed with how comfortable it is. I never thought a murphy bed would feel comfortable like a regular bed. Our extra bedroom is small, and this allows us to not only have a queen size bed so that our guests will be comfortable, but also allows us to use the room as an office when we don't have company. Basically it gave us a whole extra room in our house, so why wouldn't you let your space do double duty? Also, when doing our research the beds from Bedder Way were not that much more expensive than the poorly constructed (not solid wood) beds from other companies. Definitely recommend! read more

We are so pleased with our Murphy bed. We use it as an occasional guest bed and could not be happier. The bed is solid wood and high quality. It took 2 of us about 2 hours to get it put together but the instructions were very clear and easy to follow. We also ordered the mattress from them and it is of high quality. I recommend the White Glove delivery as the pieces are heavy and bulky and it was nice to have someone get them up the stairs for us. I recently purchased a queen size Murphy bed with two side cabinets from Bedderway for my basement. I absolutely LOVE this product. Everyone I spoke with regarding the purchase, especially Megan, were so friendly and helpful. I needed to make a change to my order after placing it and all it took was a quick phone call. I got the white glove delivery which entailed the delivery company delivering all components to the space where it was to be installed, unpacking all pieces and taking away the packing materials. This is well worth the money as this product is very high quality and heavy. The installation instructions were spot on and I was able to do the majority of the assembly alone needing only a second set of hands to help me move the components into position. The wood and stain options allowed me to very closely match the style and shade of existing cabinetry in the room where I installed it. When not in use, the bed looks like a piece of fine crafted furniture but yet converts to a very comfortable bed in a matter of seconds. The lift mechanism makes it very easy for one person to raise and lower it. I can't say enough about this company and product. Horrible Service. As an Interior Designer, I am accustomed to ordering furniture, hundreds of thousands every year. Accepting furniture and other home building related products in a daily occurrence. Imagine my surprise when the first attempt to deliver my queen size Murphy Bed was to be delivered by one person...to the Tenth floor! After receiving the delivery man's call, I met him at the loading dock and agreed to wait for him to get help. Three hours later, he showed up with a young man with no experience. I called in the buildings handyman, a very good carpenter, who agreed to help with the process of getting the bed up to my suite. The delivery people said they didn't have time but would return the next day. The next morning I called and spoke with the dispatch manager who was very disappointed in the actions of the day before and promised me the murphy bed would be in my bedroom by 3:30. They failed to show up, they failed to call, the didn't pick up my call! To go one step further, I had on call our building handyman (carpenter) again, who was more than willing to assist in getting this item to me. I called the BedderWay company and told them of the situation. They assured me that I would get the bed. The initial delivery people unpacked the front panel and said it wouldn't fit into the elevator. Well, my previous delivery people brought up an antique, huge, armoir the ten flights of stairs and after this being disassembled, this would be far easier. This was not a difficult delivery based on my 13 years of interior design work. All of this was laid out to CEVA, and The BedderWay Co and I was ASSURED my bed would be delivered. Finally, the fourth night, I was waiting on yet another firm who was due to deliver at 5:00. I called the guard house to alert them and gave the delivery company every contact number we had so if they were late, they could contact us and we would me at the dock at the base of the building. NO PHONECALL, NO CONTACT, NOTHING! The guard house said no one came, the front desk said no one came, and we certainly did not get any calls. I called BedderWay (are you getting that this should be called THE WORST WAY company?) and spoke with Nathan who told me that once the bed was unpackaged he wouldn't accept it as it would likely be damaged or beaten up. Again I called Jason, the account person (if you could call inept, miserable, unhelpful as an account person) who said they would get to the bottom of the situation. I told him I wasn't interested in spending another week in doing everything possible to get this bed, accommodating them by hiring my own person to help with getting the bed up the stairs and paying them for their services, that they needed to figure this out for me and that I needed to look at the bed to be sure it wasn't beaten up as it'd been in THREE different shippers hands. NO CALL BACK. I called CEVA logistics (the company in charge of this "delivery" and told them I had to leave town and that they should simply send the bed back. My other option was to call my own movers in DC who moved the antique armoire for me, but, I had already been on this for a week and was due to return home and wouldn't be back for at least a month. Now, catch this, when home in Arizona, THREE MONTHS LATER, I GET A CALL FROM JASON saying the bed is at the dock and ready to be delivered!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I am supposed to accept a bed that's been bounced around with several companies and knocked around, out of the package for three months? I told them to credit me my card, I'd already sent an email three months prior with that request. They did but, also took 30% for a restocking fee! It was never delivered so how can I be charged a restocking fee? THE BEDDERWAY owes me $600 and an apology. They wanted me to accept the bed at any point so they could pass it on to the shipping companies problem and get an insurance claim, as I see it and from my 13 years of experience in the design and furniture world. What an unethical company. DO NOT buy from the BEDDERWAY, they are THE WORST WAY in my opinion. Rockler.com offers great mechanisms for contructing your own bed and frankly, why not have the enjoyment of creating your own work of art. Any carpenter, cabinet shop could make these and you can get a custom color, design of your choosing without dealing with this horrible company. The product didn't look bad, but, all I saw was the mechanism and the front panel. Save yourself some grief and buy from someone else. This was the wost disaster in buying furniture I've ever experienced. And, I would have purchased 4 of these beds had they successfully followed through on their promises. read more

I wanted to buy a Murphy bed online and selected Bedder Way because I preferred solid wood construction over particle board. They have many designs, and most are available in oak or maple with a variety of finishes. The customer support at this company is wonderful. I initially placed my order online, but later received a phone call offering useful advice on material selection, delivery options, etc. Delivery was received within the estimated window, however shipping damage was evident on two of the boxes and the delivery was not accepted. Instead of refurbishing the damaged articles they immediately started work on a fresh set of parts, placing my replacement order near the top of the queue. The second delivery arrived slightly sooner than the original did. I thought this showed remarkable dedication to customer satisfaction. Assembly was straightforward, and the illustrated manual was very clear and easy to follow. As stated in the instructions, two people are required for two steps during assembly, but most of it can be done by one. I am very happy with the result, a nicely matched set of Murphy bed and adjoining cabinet. read more

Purchased a murphy bed from The Bedder Way. Ordered the mattress from them also so it would be the correct weight and size that is for the murphy bed. After we installed, with their mattress, the bed will not stay on the floor when it is down, unless someone is on it! I called them and was told we needed to change out the hydraulic hinges. To do so, they said to go inside the bed when it is closed into the wall and chg them out!! So I guess you need to be a stick person that can see in the dark to get this job done. It was their mistake that they sent me the wrong hinges to begin with and they will not send anyone out to switch out the hinges, so now we have to disassemble the WHOLE bed and start all over again!! Nice Bed.....VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! I would love to buy another murphy bed but will not from them because they will not fix the one I have!!!! All they did was send the new hinges and said "Sorry" Our mistake.....now you need to change them out!!!! NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!!!! read more

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW: We live in a high rise apartment in downtown Chicago and after several years of living and teaching abroad my husband decided to relocate his primary office to our residence which meant reconfiguring our guest room into a functioning office. We have guests a few times a year but realized that dedicating an entire room to that purpose was unreasonable although we still wanted to have accommodations for family and friends. A friend told me about her experience with Bedderway Way Co. and I visited her apartment and saw the installation and was delighted with the result. My husband and I then made a trip to the company in Indianapolis and spent time with Meghan, our consultant and designed an arrangement that suited our needs and matches almost exactly the finish and detailing of the office furniture that is being hand made by a craftsman in Pennsylvania. We are thrilled beyond words with the quality, beauty and functionality of our Bedder Way bed and wall components. They look wonderful, the bed is effortless to pull down and raise and our space is now both beautiful and functional. Delivery was on time and the production was approximately four weeks which is remarkable for individually crafted furniture. We did have a contractor do the actual installation, which for us was a good decision, but it is certainly possible to do it yourself if you have the proper tools. I cannot say enough good words about our experience with the Bedder Way Co. Everyone was courteous, willing to go the extra mile the product is wonderful! After having done a major renovation of our apartment over a year and a half period and having this final piece of the puzzle exceed all expectations was a delightful experience. read more

It made it possible for my second bedroom in this small retirement condo to be an office, provide storage for books and other items, be a sewing room (because of a drop-down table), and, of course, a guest bedroom.
