I honestly had one of the worst salon experiences I've ever had, and almost a month later I'm STILL…read moredealing with the aftermath.
Before booking with Anna Humphreys, we spent over an hour messaging about my hair, concerns, expectations, and pricing. I repeatedly made it VERY clear that I did NOT want to look, feel, or be blonde. I was nervous and even told her that if she wasn't comfortable achieving what I wanted, PLEASE tell me, I would rather walk away and no hard feelings.
My appointment lasted from approximately 1:20-7PM. My foils processed for around 40 minutes, and Anna was gone most of that time. Within 10-15 minutes my scalp began burning BADLY. When I told her, her response was, "Yeah, bleach can be hot." Despite knowing I was burning, she also used a blow dryer on the foils. When rinsing, even the hot water was painful. I became so concerned I asked if my hair was damaged or falling out. Her response was, "Surprisingly no. I was nervous at first." That was incredibly alarming to hear.
At the very end when she finally turned me toward the mirror, I was devastated. I was EXTREMELY blonde. The exact thing I repeatedly said I did NOT want. I had very blonde money pieces I specifically told her I did not want. I asked her to tone them down, which she did. I was charged approximately $255, despite her online price showing $165 for full highlights, and regrettably still left a $30 tip because we had spent practically the entire day there and, at the time, I was still hoping we could somehow fix the situation.
When I got home and could properly inspect everything, my scalp was extremely red with areas that appeared blistered. My hair had noticeable damage/breakage, harsh root lines that already looked grown out, chunky highlights, and multiple tones including orange and yellow.
A couple of hours after my appointment, I messaged Anna and explained how unhappy and concerned I was. I explained the issues with the color, how blonde I was/felt, how orange and yellow my hair was, the amount I had paid, the amount of time I had spent there, and what had happened to my scalp. She offered to tone down the blonde, but at that point my concern was much bigger than simply being "too blonde."
I requested a refund because of the condition of my scalp/hair and because I now have to pay someone else to correct and potentially cut my damaged hair. She declined.
Almost a MONTH later, I still have visible pigmentation/discoloration on my scalp where the burning occurred.
I understand hair color doesn't always turn out perfectly. What I cannot understand is repeatedly communicating what I didn't want, telling my stylist my scalp was BURNING during processing, her staying in the back majority of the time, leaving with the exact result I asked not to have, discovering scalp and hair damage afterward, and then being refused a refund.
I spent over 5 hours and nearly $300 including tip to leave with hair I didn't want, a painful scalp, damaged/broken hair, and another salon bill ahead of me to fix it. This experience was upsetting, expensive, and physically painful, and I deeply regret ever sitting in her chair. I pray no one else has this experience. I would much rather have kept the hair I walked in with than ever had her touch it.
