The ladies working the front are so friendly and make sure you have all your book needs handled. The photo ops within the space are adorable!! There's just a lot of small details that the owners have taken note of and implemented in the store. It's 2 large stores now (it's gotten bigger) and the decorations and gifts are wonderful. Very Instagrammable. Lots of books and gifts like candles, shirts, bags, knickknacks. Cute signs and decor. Books by local authors are highlighted. Staff is very helpful. Bathroom is clean and cute. There's lots of ladders that remind you that you're not Belle, do not stand on them! A must-visit if you're in KC!

Turnsol Books is a worker-owned book store, coffee shop, community space, and writing workshop…read moretucked in the corner of 17th and Broadway. They have a mix of new and second hand books, including a large non-fiction collection. They don't have a huge selection of books or a huge coffee menu, but they have plenty for browsing and enjoying. Can't say I found a price on a lot of the books, so I'm not sure how affordable it is, but you're supporting a small business! They are focusing on putting on more community events and workshops in the coming year. I went to a great (free!) poetry and perfume workshop that was tons of fun. Connected to Black Cat Records in the back and the Stray Cat next door. Usually a good amount of parking available on 17th and Washington.

We were in the area and I checked on Apple Maps about any local bookstores. This one came up that I…read morehad not been to so we decided to check it out. There was parking right out front that was available. The store is in a brick building and it is spacious. There were two cats to greet us. The woman who owns the bookstore was nice and helpful. There is a variety of books of different genres. I would say mostly progressive selection, but there were also some classics. There was a variety of items from local vendors that were for sale. For example: dried tea in canisters, roll on handmade perfumes, and some other items. There was a variety of seating throughout for checking out the books. I felt like some of the prices were a bit high. They have some new books and mostly used. It looks like. I ended up finding a book that I believe was eight dollars for used and my husband also got a book. I do think that some of the bookshelves need to be just a bit sturdier on some of the shelving. The owner mentioned they may start having a coffee cart available as well.

I saw the recent advertisement about friends of the Johnson County library bookstore in the Johnson…read moreCounty magazine. This is a hidden gem that is staffed by volunteers only on weekends and I believe Tuesday evenings. They are welcoming and friendly and very helpful. We were greeted at the door and handed a price list and shown to where the various genres or items were located. They have a nice children's book room with a table for children to sit and read at and a wide variety of age levels of books for very reasonable prices. They also have a good selection of all types of books and I even saw the woman in front of us purchasing puzzles. They have media and music as well for sale. The address listed on this post is different than the one in the magazine, so I will post a photo of that. I think the address in the review is right next-door where they might store books. I will definitely be going back and we bought a good size box worth of books!

They generally sell for $1.00 soft bound and $2.00 hard bound. I can't imagine finding books at these prices anywhere else. Plus the money earned goes to supporting the library. Win/win for everyone! The Johnson County Kansas Friends just moved into a much larger space. They have puzzles and an extra large sections for children's books. I especially like the antique books. I always leave with a full bag. If you are clearing out your shelves, also consider donating.
