The light show is timed throughout the day and I arrived like 45 minutes early, so I had plenty of time to explore their "downstairs area." Tons of free arcade games. I played Pac-Man and whatever game it is where you shoot aliens. There is also a car racing game. There is an old school basketball game hooked up to an old TV. They have a large projector screen hooked up to a Nintendo switch with Mario and Zelda games. I actually really enjoyed coloring in the many coloring books they had. They have retro, funky furniture, fun decorations, and merch for sale. The light show itself is a fun time! No videography or photography during, but they do a basic show at the end so people can take photos and videos. You can lay on the floor or back in a pew on one of the many fluffy stuffed pillows and watch and meditate. They have great stoner music too (think Pink Floyd). And of course, the chapel itself is beautiful. No partaking in cannabis while in the building. They keep it family friendly (there were toddlers there when I went, but they were well behaved). They have multi-denominational church services a couple times a month where people can use cannabis. There is a lot of nearby street parking, as it's kinda in a residential area, though I took a Lyft. Also a mile or less walk to some of the main food and bar sites on Broadway.

The venue is very old, I think it's over a hundred years old or something like that, and it shows but I think it adds character. The sound quality there is good for how old it is at least for metal shows. The venue is consistently oversold to the point where the last few shows I went to, I was watching from the entrance area. The smoking area is also way too small. It's always shoulder to shoulder there. The parking there is always a pain. There is street parking but you have to get there at least an hour early to find anything around the venue. Otherwise, you'll be paying an arm and a leg for paid lot parking. This isn't the fault of the venue itself though. I am sure I will be back at the Ogden Theatre and hopefully they make some changes to enhance the show experience.

To me, it doesn't have the same allure and magic of some of Denver's rivaled clubs, though I appreciate its place in history. When it was built a hundred years ago, they probably never predicted that this old cow town would turn into as popular of a city as it has become. Attending an event here (or even at Fillmore a few blocks down) is chaos. Parking is extremely minimal, more like a major headache. The tour buses either park directly in front of the venue or on the sidestreet, the line to get in wraps around the building and with the surrounding Colfax chaos it's usually an overstimulating adventure just to make it inside. Ogden is bigger than Bluebird and smaller than Fillmore. Around 1500 capacity. I've seen two acts I really love here, Jerry Cantrell (of Alice In Chains fame) and Rival Sons. The venue floor is tiered and overall a decent setup. It's similar to Bluebird, different barriers separating one from the other. Sound is good, better if you're in the back, but if it's a band I love I'm getting as close as possible. They have two bars, and they do an adequate job serving the masses. You can't do anything about the prices, but occasionally you might find a deal on something. It's a concert, get a beer or a spirit and soda and get out of there! I'm sure I'll find myself here again and though it's not a favorite venue of mine, I can get down with the acts they bring in. If you can, uber there to avoid the parking situation!

They greeted us immediately and gave us a map of the property. We had fun walking around and checking out the animals and historic buildings on site. Wow, my yesterday's visit to this historic park was so mesmerizing. It's because of their annual…read more(?) "Bright Nights" (originally a lantern festival.) It is said that they unveil a brand new theme each year and this year's theme appears to be focused on some Eastern cultures such as cherry blossom and bamboo forest with pandas. Not that I have been to many lights shows and yet I must say that I have never seen anything quite like this as far as my recollection is accurate. In its 12-acre land, the installations of lantern lights are everywhere. After 8:30pm or so when it's dark, the illuminations from the lanterns are glowing brighter than Las Vegas' illuminations (LOL - why am I comparing this to Las Vegas!!) According to the park's website, some of the sculptures are 23-foot tall (such as the cherry blossom gate.) It's currently open from Wednesday through Sunday until October 5th. And last night's was one of the adult-only nights where you must be 21+ to enter (I believe the next and last such night is Sept 17th. And this writing is as of late August of 2025.) I am already curious as to what the next year's theme is going to be. There is a centralized bar, some food vendors, a stage where a performer performs, and a DJ booth. Great for family time, girls' night or date night. Helpful staff were working tirelessly to assist all visitors. Although about 1,300 tickets were sold last night, it was never super jammed packed. There is still time to visit this enchanting light show. Not only for the locals but definitely one of the must-visit attractions for out-of-staters as well.

I had seen pictures of the murals along the way and I love art walks, so I decided we had to go. The reviews all seem pretty positive here, but I noted that they are from many years ago when perhaps it was different. We did not have a positive experience. I looked on the website and found the address of a gallery that said there was a showing that night, and decided to get dropped off there. We figured we would then walk to nearby galleries and follow the festivities. Well, we walked into the first gallery which was really large. There were several artist's workshops inside with artists walking around. However, nothing was displayed, it was more just works in progress and no one said hello or welcomed us. They pretty much looked at us as though we shouldn't be there. After that, we decided to move on the next. The only other gallery we could find was more of a strange bar/club with a few pieces of art hanging up. We wound up in a distillery nearby and talked to a couple who had been trying to go on the art walk as well. The woman said, "We found more bars than art". Those were my sentiments exactly. After that, we spent the evening bar-hopping. I'm giving it two stars instead of one, as it did get us out to a part of town with cool bars and restaurants. As far as the art walk, perhaps it is best not to return.

While I am always about promoting art and artists (I am an art historian), most businesses are not set up to be gallery spaces recognizing flow, placement and lighting. I am leaving the name of one of these places out but as soon as you walk into it, you will know what I am talking about. Viewing and enjoying art is almost an impossibility. Hoping on the bandwagon just because it is going by does not an art gallery make and no, hanging art on the walls does not make a person a curator. The neighborhood has really been under going a renaissance but as we parked and walked toward Tennyson, a carload of kids yelled, "Look, white people!" Hey, dumb*&^% I am not all white and my friend is Native American. Scary teenagers on a dark street....yikes.
