Brass sculptures, mixed media, abstract art, art inspired by Cubism. They also have jewelry. I am sad to see from the previous review that there is a basement that I totally missed. Another stop in the Santa Fe art district that could be part of a whole day adventure.

The art is astounding and the gallery feels like a fun maze that goes on forever, always with something new to explore. The basement is one of my favorites because you would never know it was there. Next Gallery dates back to 2006 and the Navajo Street Art District in Lower Highlands when rising…read morereal estate taxes motivated Pirate Gallery to split its space in half so that another group of artists could share the costs. Next and Pirate remained neighbors until the continuing gentrification of the neighborhood forced a move to Lakewood's 40 West Arts District in 2017. Next spent several years in the infamous Pasternack building which turned into Pasternack's Art Hub for awhile. Eventually Lakewood's 40 West Arts put together a deal to take over a long-vacant, free-standing restaurant building in the parking lot of the Lamar Station Plaza shopping center (also home to Casa Bonita) and Next moved there in 2024. Next now shares the 40 West Art Hub with the Lakewood Arts, Core, Edge, Kanon, and 40 West galleries plus the Anachronism art supply store. Next has 28 mostly mid-career members who restructured during the move to Lakewood as a formal non-profit with a dedicated board. The gallery has become much more organized and professional since finding a new permanent home. I still find the quality variable. Sometimes I'm impressed, other visits leave me scratching my head in confusion. It's very nice to have six galleries next to each other in the same building with plenty of on-site parking. The Hub has really brought a center with critical mass to the 40 West Arts District and Next Gallery is an integral part of this.

Long's unusual ceramic pieces, featuring fractures, chains, bent rods, and collapsing forms, highlight the pressures of modern life, but show that we are still standing. Wilson has spent the past five years passionately documenting the BLM's war on Colorado's wild horses. His extraordinary photographs bring the chaos and pain of this situation up close. This show is shocking, upsetting, and deeply moving. It should be a must see for everyone.

For that moment in my personal history, I always take the opportunity to swing through whenever I find myself down that direction for any reason. The gallery that was has long since changed hands a couple of times, yet always attracts some good shows. Over the last several months, I have found myself back at this place twice now as a destination. I haven't done that once for this gallery space in over a decade. Artist-owned and operated as a co-op in this iteration, it seems someone was taking notes. The main showroom is still in the front, with the full windows facing the intersection. There are still private, working studio spaces in the back, but the layout has been shuffled a bit. From the outside, the changes are subtle. They have fixed, open hours from Thursday through Sunday, which is a standout in comparison to other galleries in the area. What was the backdoor entrance and an empty corridor is now utilized as functional space for a satellite gallery. The main gallery and this secondary gallery have representation from co-op members. The range of work offers a wide variety of media and artistic voices. There's a smaller "featured" type gallery off the main gallery, which rotates solo shows. All in all, they've really gotten all they can out of the space, tastefully. So, if you're looking for a place that's not the cramped and crazy of First Friday, get on their mailing list or check their calendar when you're planning a night out. After all, this is the place D'ART.

Not only was his work AMAZING (seriously, go check it out next week at First Friday!) but the whole building was really cool. It was a smaller studio, but it was beautiful with half of the walls having exposed bricks. I looked through the other sections and all of the other artists that were featured had very amazing pieces of work. Everything was vibrant, funky, original, eccentric, and beautiful. I've been through a lot of the galleries in the area before, but this is definitely my favorite!

The best evening to go is on 3rd Fridays - the gallery is open late and the crowds are nothing like crazy 1st Fridays! The artists in the gallery are up-and-coming, so the art is exceptional and it's affordable!

My perception is that the shows over the past year have been of a more consistent, high quality. The size of the facility has also usually allowed three artists per show to be displayed. I definitely recommend a visit. The gallery is on the first floor, north side of the condo building attached to the west side of the Cultural Center Complex Garage--right around the corner from the garage's elevator lobby. It is across the plaza from the main entrance to the Denver Art Museum and across 13th Avenue from the main branch of the Denver Public Library. The most convenient place to park is that Cultural Complex Garage. The auto entrance is off 12th Avenue. Exit via the elevator in the northwest corner and you'll be just a few steps from the gallery.

It is spacious, has several smaller studios in it, and has mixed mediums. One of the things I remember especially about this gallery use of oils on Masonite by one artist, which created a very earthy abstract theme. Quite cool, but naturally pricey. Nonetheless, when I noted to my lady friend that this place was better than most of the galleries we've seen so far, she relied to me that the people in here looked exactly like the people she would see in swank-ass SF galleries: not interested in the art in the least but in networking, kissing-ass, and trying to get laid. Pretty harsh perhaps, but there was a ring of truth to this fact as I looked around. I'm not sure why I felt this way in this gallery especially, but it was there so....no 5 for you

The collection of art and items here is definitely very eclectic, but is also very thought provoking at the same time. This collection is definitely much nicer than most free collections that I've seen in other cities, and I would have no problem paying a small fee to visit it again. As the rooms were not busy during my visit, I had the opportunity to slowly enjoy the art - this was good as some areas have quite a bit of items to see in a small area. Overall, definitely worth a visit if you're in Denver and enjoy art -- especially unusual and creative art.

I'm always looking for different things to do and the Mid-Career Smear collection was different. We…read moreparked at a local parking garage on California and 19th St ( $20 for max hours) within walking distance to the historic Colorado Building. Also available is metered street parking. We had a reservation for the collection at 1:45 so we ate at the Tuscany Coffee & Deli (on the 16th St mall) for lunch and while we waited for our appointment. Initially we were confused about the collection hours and we left a VM and emailed but no response to see if we could go to the collection before our scheduled appointment (which we did anyway). A employee explained the appointment was to tell how many people would attend at a certain time. We arrived to find the building doors were locked but luckily a gentleman who works there let us in and also let us into the elevator to the 5th floor where we were greeted by an employee who explained about the visit. We were free to roam the entire 5th floor of each office at our leisure (only saw one other couple) that held exhibits from contemporary artists from around the world. There were information in the rooms providing brief descriptions of each exhibit. Some of the items were interactive. It is considered an art incubator space and has rotating exhibitions that I believe change every month. The space is 700 ft.² so you'll be able to get through the exhibition pretty quickly. This location does a wonderful job of maintaining the vibrancy of Denvers art community by having a welcoming space access to the public to visit, as well as having opening receptions when new exhibitions arrive. All of the people involved with understudy are incredibly friendly and involved in the arts and culture community. The next time you're walking around in the downtown area it's worth stopping by and taking a look

These are generally closed to the public, although this space often hosts an open studio on First Fridays. The participation level, unfortunately, is rather limited of late. The setup is minimalist. The open space has been sectioned off into separate studio cubicles. I find it all rather cramped, dark, and gloomy. There's a rudimentary kitchen and lounge area. Some art is displayed on the hallway walls. There's also an outdoor lounge area hidden at the rear. A nice mural sets off the Walnut Street side of the building. The RiNoVELO custom bicycle shop has its headquarters here. Another interesting tenant is the LeahTard Wedgie/Cirque Gravizoides aerial fabric arcobatics studio.
