This is a barbershop that originated in Japan as they have 7 locations out there and opened this NYC location 5 years ago. I passed by and saw a samurai armor that they have on display, which reminded me of a time I got a haircut in Japan and felt like it was one of the best haircuts I ever got. I decided to give it a shot and loved the job they did! They have incredible attention to detail and they even cut certain problem areas that I normally think about, but didn't think to communicate when telling them what kind of cut I wanted. Who knew. It takes a Japanese shop to be the first to call it self The Barber! If you want to be treated in a kind respectful manner and get the best haircut of your life than The Barber is your go to place. I loved it and all I got was a haircut and Beard trim I would have been flying out the door if I really treated myself to a spa treatment. Even so I felt great about the overall experience. I'm new to the haircut and beard so I was a bit nervous but felt great about the result and look forward to my next visit. Also, when I was leaving there was another beard going in the window chair. I felt like every hair I got cut had attention given and I love the result. Thank you Keita Ps excellent beard trim plus I was one day away before this visit on giving up on my beard. You can't help but stop when trying to pass by this spot, it's really quite elegant from the outside. A beautiful wood finish throughout and there is an authentic Samurai Armor set in the window. A great blend of classic Japanese style and a nod to the classiness within. Walking in you're greeted with what the Japanese are known for: Great hospitality, an extremely clean environment, and top notch equipment (The automatic barber chairs are really cool) which made me excited for another Japanese staple which is the skill and pride in their chosen craft. I decided to fully test this experience by going for their full services which which included haircut, shave and accompanying massages (Face, Scalp and Shoulders) Starting with the shave (Shaved my beard completely off for Summer), Masa (my barber) used a beard trimmer then with excellent skill (and the use of a nearby steamer) used 3 unique looking blades to get me a super close shave without nicking me a single time (still amazed by this) he was sure to use the right products and oils to moisturize my skin leaving me looking great and the following massage left me feeling rejuvinated. In between he offered me a drink from a list of Mineral Water, Sparkling water, Iced Coffee or Espresso before moving on to shampooing my hair and another massage that left me ready to go over my hairstyle. Masa did a great job talking though my hairstyle with me (I wanted to try something just a little different from normal but not too crazy) and honed down just the right look. From here he had already earned my trust and I let the master go to work, I was feeling relaxed and at ease (The chair is really comfortable and the environment is so pleasant I really almost fell asleep there) and before I knew it I was ready to get another rinse and massage before we moved on to the final steps and touch ups of the haircut. Personally I don't like to use a lot of product (I'm not good at styling it) and that's how I like my barber to cut my hair (to understand that I most likely won't be using product later on) but I do like allowing a professional to style me so I let Masa use some hair product which he explained the properties of to me while he made me look even better than I did. The overall experience is really amazing, if you go for the full service (and if you're busy and stressful like most of us are, you really should) you won't regret the feeling of tranquility when you're on your way out back to the world. Afterwards I would get compliments that whole day and even after I washed the style out of my hair I was still looking great, just the way I like my hairstyle to be. Truly an amazing experience, don't regret walking past this spot. read more

In US, hair cut is never so clean and comfort. The service is amazing, the shampoo and hair wax smell so elegant. The shaving was so smooth, I never feel my skin so soft as there never gown any hair. I have thick hair in overall, they did very detail touching on thinning my hair. Yes it's a little bit more expensive than lot of other places , but the value is more than the money they charge. Now this is a TRUE five star barbershop. I was in the area for a business trip and I came by for a quick chop. I had looked this place up on yelp and it looked interesting I never expected the level of professionalism that I received here, my haircut looked amazing I wish I had taken a picture. Best part about this barbershop is the Japanese samurai style theme that they have going on its fantastic sitting there getting your haircut looking at katanas can be pretty awesome. My barber was very very cool laid-back guy he would know exactly how I like my hair done once I explained it to him. Nothing too crazy nice little feet on the side with the scissor cut on top slick to the side very very clean very very professional. There are many barbershops in NYC, but only one "The Barber". This may be a comfortable, newly opened shop, but there are decades of experience inside. The stylists have all been in the industry for years and are the first to bring traditional Japanese haircutting, shaving, facials, and head spa techniques to SoHo. I went to the Barber on a drizzly, humid Friday afternoon and was greeted by a receptionist. (The staff can speak English; however, this is also a fun spot to practice Japanese.) While I waited for the Barber (they do accept walk-ins), I was offered a complimentary beverage and sat at a small bar beside a real samurai suit. The temperature in the shop was cool, the jazz was relaxing, and the beverage was exactly what I needed to take the edge off the work week. Discerning customers will be pleased by an astute and gentle attention to detail throughout their experience. My barber was Masamichi Nagai. Throughout the entire shampoo, haircut, shave, and facial, Masa took great care to ensure I was comfortable and relaxed. His techniques were meticulous and precise. I at no point felt any bit of discomfort or irritation. The whole process only took an hour and was a rejuvenating and refreshing experience that made me look great and will stay with me all week. A remarkable experience.. Very personalised service. Yoshinari Sakai cut my hair , hard scissor trimmed my beard and blade shaved me and I also got a facial.
