My Dad and I went out with Captain Mike this past Thursday. The forecast was an ominous one…read moreheading into the morning, but Mike was ready when a window of opportunity opened for us to get out onto the water. We started by fishing for specked trout and were rewarded by staying persistent on a spot that Mike targeted as a "honey hole". Afterwards we worked our way up towards and area parallel to the Arroyo Colorado. Working our way through some vegetation-covered spits that had unseasonally hugh water around them, we were able to start casting for reds. Within about an hour we had three keepers. Next we headed towards Rattlesnake bay. Again due to the unusually high water (rest of the mainland was flooding with torrential rain) we were able to creep in on some sand covered bottoms. We hooked up on our last keeper red and then decided to call it a day. As it turned out we got to Jim's pier, had the fish cleaned and were on the road after parting ways with Mike but just in time before a heavy storm hit the island. Our timing and trip was perfect. Mike was patient, curteous, persitent, and a good teacher. Exactly what we needed after being away from bay fishing for so long and what's needed in a guide. Thanks again, Capt. Mike. Hopefully we go fishing or try hunting in the next few months or so.

Unfortunately all of the guides were having a rough day but Clayton was able to help us get four keepers in the box. Three trout and one black tip. Great sense of humor! The pelicans love the stuff that's thrown away I would have given 5 stars, however my son and I were the first ones there. We knew we wanted to get on the back of the boat. The ticket lady suggested it. So we stood first for about 10 min prior to leaving. Then 2 "regulars" and their friends cut in front and went right to the back of the boat before anyone else. Of course they hauled in a ton of fish, but we still had fun and made memories. Maybe next time, just a suggestion, honor those that got there first.

A variety of items offered to fishermen and fisher women. Why is it that fishermen is an accepted homonym and fisherwomen is auto corrected? Anyway, the store is similar to a general store as offers up sodas, chips, and other snacks as well as toys and clothing and more items for anyone who fishes. Taking a look around, I didn't see anything that I was needing or wanting at the moment, but it was nice to greeted as we walked in the place. Friendly service.

The morning started out slow (no fish for a second day!? c'mon!) but we got into the reds about an hour before we were to head back in. Not only was Capt Dave determined to put us on fish but he kept us out an hour and a half after our paid time frame so we could limit out! We had SO MUCH FUN and I can't wait to get back out with him. I have tried to book since but I was poor at planning and wasn't able to book as he was already full. However, Capt Dave put me in touch with a friend of his Capt Blaze and the same deal! Got us onto the fish and we had a blast! We did land several large Trout. Just not our limit. With that said, Capt. Bode treated my nephews as if they were family. At the same time he's going to every sweet spot he knows to help us catch the trophy fish we all want. Maybe it was the several nights of a full moon, we just had a hard time finding the fish. I live and work in Dallas and I fished with several Port Isabel guides but none work as hard to guarantee that everyone has fun and great memories. If you a skilled fisherman or a firs ttimer I can't recommend a better guide.
