We agree with many of the criticisms below, a very disappointing experience all round. We went to the Badger late afternoon on Sunday with two friends. Our visit began with a stern lecture by the manageress telling us that 'we should have booked', this was followed by a sarcastic comment 'I see you missed the obvious large sign at the door telling you to wait there to be seated'. We did miss the sign at the door because other people were leaving as we went in and 'the large board' was behind them and not visible to us. We thought that this was a rather rude and confrontational way to speak to customers, certainly not what you would expect from a professional. She 'found' us a table, being late afternoon Sunday there were in fact quite a few empty tables. We ordered a fish pie and the grilled whole plaice for main courses, our friends ordered steaks. The waitress asked if we would like mushrooms with the steaks our friends thinking this was an included option as there was no mention of an extra cost, said yes. Later when we paid the bill we found that the mushrooms were an extra, charged at £2 a portion (see suggestive selling in Terryx's comment below) . The 'whole plaice' was described as grilled with 'crispy potatoes' and a dressed salad. Although described as being 'grilled' there was no sign of browning on the fish, it was soggy and tasteless. The 'crispy potatoes' were overcooked and dry, some tasted burned. The 'dressed salad' which came with it was very basic with hardly any dressing on it. The steaks were tough and dry and the mushrooms were overcooked. My wife's fish pie was described as being topped with 'crushed potatoes', when it arrived there was no potato on top, the white fish had little taste and some of the prawns were cold, as if they had been added at the last minute. The accompanying vegetables, namely green beans and peas were also cold . We were asked if we were enjoying our meal, so my wife said she was not happy with the lack of potato, the waitress replied 'that's what it is, that's how it comes'. My wife pointed out that the menu described it as being 'topped with crushed potato' and that was not what she got. When it was clear that my wife was not at all happy and other customers were beginning to take notice the disgruntled waitress took it away and brought it back with more potato on the top. The poor standard of the food, the rude treatment by the manageress and the unpleasant exchange at table makes this an experience best forgotten. If there had been a 'no star' rating I would have given it. Needless to say we will never go back to the Badger. read more

A party of 10 of us went to this pub. We were told to sit at our table and a waiter would see to us. After ordering, we waited quite some time for the meals to arrive, and when they did, 3 of us who had ordered the Haggis, and neeps, were served up Haggis minus the neeps. On complaining, the 2 men were told that they were 'out of season', and I was told they had burnt them!! I was offered an alternative to which I had to pay extra. On receiving the bill, the men asked to see the Manager as they thought they needed redress for something which was advertised but never produced. The Manager a woman then started a most disagreeable arguement with them, and stated that we were told that there was no neeps at the bar. We hadn't even orderd at the bar, and when they said they would pay £1 less, she threatened to call the police. After a terrible exchange of words, she followed us all out into the carpark, still making accusations, and was most disagreeable. We gave her the full amount, nearly £58 for 8 meals, two paid separately, and she clearly wrote on the receipt Paid £50. This wasn't noticed till after we had left the premises, or else another arguement would have been started. We are a club, and meet monthly for meals out, and never, have we been treated in such a manner. A few of our ladies were quite upset with all this bitterness, and said how it had spoilt their day. After all this, the food wasn't that great, frozen chips etc. Needless to say, we will never go back! read more

Booked a table for 8pm with 4 friends who had travelled down from Scotland and they complimented on what a nice looking pub it was, with the low beams and open natural fires. The staff were very friendly and the beer and wine was good, but the food was nothing short of diabolical, and this was the concensus of opinion of all 6 of us. In all honestly we have never been more disappointed in any meals while eating out over the last 35 years. As well as the food being tasteless the portions were extremely small (i.e. 9oz steak, that clearly wasn't, accompanied by 5 chips and 2 onion rings £16.95) 1st time there and definately the last. read more

Visited The Badger for lunch today and waited 30 mins. for main course to arrive which only came after we complained. Very disappointing food the shepherd's pie was so neuked that it was dried up all around the edge, very little veg with it. After waiting and waiting for our plates to be cleared and our desserts to arrive, I had to go to the bar again and ask what had happened to our order. Eventually came and was ok. We were given free coffee with an apology. The amazing thing was that the place was practically empty, I dread to think how long you would have to wait if they were busy. Needless to say we won't be going back. read more

Food was reasonable but we went for Sunday lunch and they go in for suggestive selling asking did you want cali cheese with that? We then found this was not part of the veg with the meal but was an extra costing us an extra £2.50 per person! (Whats more it did not arrive until we had nearly finished.) They then added a 10% surcharge because we were in a group of more than 8 which is a policy I object to. We will not be back. read more

Ordered the fish pie priced at £9.99- quite pricey!Very disappointed- full of mashed potatoes and peas, small pieces of fish and only 1 prawn- advertised on the menu as being full of fish and king prawns. I could have cooked the same dish for around £1.50.This was a substandard meal, served with a selection of seasonal greens- this consisted of a few limp green beans and a few broad beans- very poor value for money.
