This is another place I enjoy in Olney , Maryland . Its across fron the Olney Town Different shopping Centers . Near Dunkin Donuts and McDonald's. This is Called Backyard Naturalist . This s a nature store for kids as well as adults interested in Learnibf about Nature . This place has classes for kids dine by the staff there to identify and tell about wold animals abd birds and more .they have classes fir kids every week inside their store . They carry all sorts of seed for birds squirrels ,Books aboyt the animals mammal toys for kids . The hve squirrel homes I think bird feeders and baths they can install in residential areas . Bird houses is uncertain since im ding more research on the subject . I would love jobs there soneday since I love nature myself. I care fir birds squirrels and more . I believe in the preservation of all life . I just need to know how to sign for jobs there. I like building bridges and making us all get almost again since after what happened during the Covid Pandemic. What happened during the Covid Pandemic was inexcusable, Unjustifiable, Reprehensible, Unprofessional, Inconsiderate, Disrespectful, Ignorant, And down right wrong. . We all need to make up fir 6 years of past sins that should have never happened nor should it be tolerated . Thats why im trying to be a team player again to help people to make a difference again if backyard naturalist let's me . I feel ill be a great fit there . I like to have a chance what I can di f they teach me all they know . O feel atmpeace by working there. Its a place I would truly enjoy . This store shows great respect and compassion fir nature as I do . I have a passion for nature study know nature . I have past experiences volunteering for paradise poin nature wildlife center im New Hampshire. This is a place kids amd adults will truly love com8ng to in Backyard Naturalist . This is a wonderful little store. I've been shopping here for 15+ years, mostly to buy bird feeding supplies, but also books, puzzles, cards, etc. They have the best selection of products for birds, plus a wide variety of nature-related gifts and other merchandise. They pack a lot into a small space. The staff is always friendly and helpful, ready to offer good advice and to carry my bags of seed to my car, and I've often swapped bird sightings with the owners. I appreciated how they found ways to stay open safely during the pandemic, with clearly stated policies, pre-ordering, and contact-free pickups. read more

I have driven past the Backyard Naturalist for years, but I have never had a chance to stop in. I decided to stop by on Saturday for a visit. Two signs were visible, one listing parking in the pack and another that said the hours of the store. The parking lot looked empty, but the back door was open, so my boyfriend and I thought we'd give it a try. If there had been sign that said that said the store was closed to the public, then we would have stayed out. There was no sign. We stepped into the store from the back parking lot and we were yelled at. Once by a woman who said "You can't come in here!" and when both my boyfriend and myself stepped onto the back porch a man came out and yelled "Get off the porch". We believe in social distancing and we were wearing masks. We have no objections to the store rules. We object to being yelled at. Even a "please step off the porch as well", would have been so much nicer than "Get off the porch" I want to spend money locally during a pandemic, but the chances I will spend money in this store are now very slight. I've been shopping at The Backyard Naturalist for a few years now. I regularly get birdseed from them, and with the pandemic their contact free pick ups have been great. I often will also browse their collection of Tree Free greeting cards, but wasn't able for the past year due to reasonable restrictions in their tight space. For my most recent birdseed pick up I asked if they'd just toss a dozen random cards in, so I was pleasantly surprised when they moved the card racks to the front door temporarily for me to browse them quickly. I wore my mask and they spritzed my hands with hand sanitizer before I started picking cards. This was a clear example of above and beyond wonderful customer service. They are doing a great job staying safe and serving their customers as best as they can. Their website is very clear about their COVID-19 safety protocols, and I appreciate them all. read more

Stopped in for a couple bag of seed, a new feeder and a shepherds hook. Older man was not so kind, young cashier was very nice. They had four signs demanding a that customer wear a mask, so I opted for 1 over priced bag of seed. I'll take my money to business' who don't mask their customers. read more

You do know that people are losing their loved ones , losing their jobs, losing their homes yet you remain open . You could be a little more grateful when someone walks in . This is my third attempt at trying to buy something in your store but your severe attitude towards people and their questions always leaves me leaving empty handed. Never again! read more

So I was a customer of Backyard Naturalist for over 5 years. Most of the staff is friendly except an older gentleman who is arrogant and rude, even on the phone. They have a decent selection of food, feeders, and such. But they get this rating because the owner has continued to require masks in spite of the directions of the CDC and Montgomery County. This is just paranoia that punishes the customers. If you are afraid, you can mask up. But you will feel lighter in the pocketbook as you lose customers. read more

This is a cram packed store full of goodies, gifts and gadgets for your garden. We love the humming bird that visit us every year and we always stock up here and leave with a few extra goodies. A little pricey but lots of fun. read more

This is a sweet little shop located in a small house near the intersection of Olney-Sandy Spring Road (108) and Georgia Avenue (97). They fit a lot into a little space! The bulk of the merchandise is books about birds, various types of birdseed and suet, and feeder devices for birds and squirrels. They also have small lawn ornaments, some jewelry, cards and notepads, stuffed animals and wildlife puppets, and a moderate collection of tumbled gemstones. The staff are friendly and helpful. I'm not sure how the place does enough volume to survive; it must have a "following" among the locals! A charming spot to seek out gifts for feathered or human friends. read more

There is an older man that works there, and he likes to make it clear that he has 20 years of experience as he talks down to customers. On the other hand, the younger man is polite, helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. If you care about birds and are trying to learn, don't be discouraged by rude behavior. One of my favorite stores, hands down. While a self proclaimed "gift shop", the backyard naturalist is so much more! The front of the store is packed with birdbaths and wildlife feeders, guides and supplies, and the back is stocked with garden decorations and flags!!! Really a place for anyone, from the aspiring bird watcher to the avid hippie, or a seasoned snow-white style naturalist. The center of the store is my favorite, though. It really is a beautiful gift shop- featuring beautiful rocks, crystal and gem specimens- at accurate and affordable prices. I love this shop. The owners are very knowledgeable. Great selection of flags, birdfeeding items and nature gifts. I always find something I have to have. Also, they sell those deer whistles you attach to the grill of your car, which I have found to be very effective in discouraging deer from running in front of my car. read more
