You may even find yourself sitting at a table that doubles up as an old-school sewing machine! You'll be entertained merely from gazing at the mesmerising array of curiosities - I notice something new on every visit. Added to that it's a wonderfully cosy, comfortable place with a real local feel despite its prime location. It's a wonder to me that it doesn't get over-run with the Clapham crowd - perhaps it's too "out-there" for that. Either way I'm not complaining, I love the POW POW POW (as it's neon sign proclaims) exactly as it is, although I must say Christmastime is best there - even more decorations! And I must mention the pizza: this is a new addition to the pub and used to be the menu at the Rose and Crown across the road. Oregano, a local pizza delivery now serves pizza on request at the POW and the quality is amazing - real wood-fired style with interesting toppings. My fav is the Funghi.

Thus went for a bottle of Wyld Wood cider, which was pretty nice. Was slightly shaken by the sight in the mirror of a man approaching me from behind in the urinals while undoing his zipper. He claimed short sightedness but I think a large measure of drunkeness may also have been involved. You can order in pizza from a local takeaway. If anyone saw the excellent recent documentary about 80s comedy, presented by Ben Elton, this is where Ben and Rik Mayall chatted over tea. POW POW POW!

Once it was winter and we sat inside, and the last couple of times I've visited here in the evening and sat outside. Every time I've been here the outside has been pretty busy, with lots of smokers enjoying the outside space and large umbrellas and overhangs to protect them from the sun. I usually drink the Waggle Dance ale when I'm here, and have had an enjoyable time upon every visit. I wouldn't say that it's amazing, but I wouldn't say it's awful, either. If you're looking for a pint of good beer, a bit of atmosphere in the suburbs - this place will do the job.

A nice pub. A safe choice. Convenient. Are these words exciting you?…read more No. Neither will the Spotted Horse. It is most certainly not a bad pub. Absolutely not. What it is however, is the most middle-of -the-road pub you're likely to find. I would often pop in for a drink but, that would be all. Just one drink. Then home or out somewhere else. The choice for drinks is reasonably broad but still your standard lagers and ales (it's a Youngs pub, if that helps). There are wines, ciders, spirits... a plethora of quite uninspiring booze. But something for everyone. The food is OK. Nice enough but I remember it costing a little more than most pubs. The bar staff have always been helpful and friendly, couldn't complain about them. The toilets are clean. So, no need to make a special effort to try this place but if you're in the area, you could do worse. It's a nice pub, a safe choice and, being on the high street, awfully convenient. Safety first! Ian

Since I started going there, I've rarely seen it crowded yet, but make no mistake that doesn't mean it is dead either. You'd probably be best reserving a table on game nights. Would I go out of my way to patron DOC? Probably not, but I live across the street so there's that... Also, they have a covered patio which I can see getting a lot of use out of during warm summer nights.

It was late afternoon, and the pub area was quite busy with customers, so we headed upstairs to the restaurant section. We ordered beef ale pie and fish and chips--classic British comfort food. We enjoyed pairing the fish with the bean paste, and even tried the fries with it at times. The standout dish was the beef ale pie! The filling was absolutely delicious--tender beef with a perfectly flavored sauce. I'd love to have it again! We ordered Guinness, a classic British pub drink.
