It's a monthly event where local vendors come out to sell their hand-crafted items. Browse through jewelry, clothing, soaps, pinatas, and other vintage and re-purposed items. They even had a tarot card reader! Travel outside the lot and you'll also encounter a ton of street vendors. Get your tacos and tamals! Por vida is advertised to serve champurrado, Mexican hot chocolate in the thick form, but the tamal guy at his cart (called Tamales Pepe) served a pretty damn good version too. His chicken mole tamales at $3 each were also muy deliciosos! Such a festive & fun event! We went for their Christmas rendition called "Noche Buena" so there were lots of lights, Christmas trees, and garland everywhere. Be sure to following them on Facebook to learn about their next event. Careful with parking though; cars park in the center, turn section of the street, so travel down this road SLOWLY. Support local, support small businesses... always!

I've been a vendor in the past and always showcased our products at these type of markets in SF or LA due to the lack of them here. You've got everything from refurbished woodworks to handcrafted leather goods (notebooks, wallets, etc). Plenty of things to choose from for everyone. It seems like a fairly new spot so I'm sure more and more local artists and vendors will be showing up and making this a regular spot for the hipsters to be at.

Anytime I'm in San Diego, I try to make it to Mujeres Brewhouse…read more I appreciate the art, the beer and most of all the sense of community. I've tried a variety of their beer over periods of time and my order is usually good. Last month I went for my bday and had a Japonesa and Mexicana, both were delicious and yes, I probably misnamed them. I also got to see some Lucha Libre and local band, it was a good time. Anyone saying there's attitude and lack of service don't understand how to come correct.

Their brews are infused with Latino flair, using ingredients and fruits rooted in Mexican tradition. The flavor combos are bold, refreshing, and like nothing you've had before. The San Diego Farmers Markets page advertises that it spans two streets. I did get some loose leaf tea that I'm excited to try, but the majority of the other sellers were displaying cheap jewelry. I think there was one place selling prepped food, but I don't remember what it was. If there were more food tents I didn't see/don't remember them. I didn't even notice anyone selling vegetables or flowers. This was really surprising for me because it's in one of the most well-known districts of San Diego, and it was on Labor Day weekend and there were a TON of people out. It could have been due to the heat wave that's happening right now, but I'm not excited to come back at another time to give them a second chance. The quality of this market, combined with the poor parking and cleanliness of the surroundings that are typical of this area made me decide that I won't be back to this market unless I'm coincidentally in Gaslamp for something else and I happen to walk by.

That being said, if you work or live anywhere close to the East Village and can sneak over to City on a Tuesday morning, this is an absolute jewel of Downtown San Diego. The Urban Farm is exactly what it sounds like: a little patch of farmland smack dab in the middle of the City College campus. You can enroll in a class and learn all about sustainable farming, etc, or you can even just volunteer to work there planting, maintaining, harvesting, and selling the garden/farm wares. They now have a weekly market, every Tuesday from 9:30-11am selling their seasonal offerings. Right now (Jan) they have turnips, radishes, braising greens (kale, chard, collards, etc), herbs, edible flowers (calendula), and more. Even if you're not a hyper-foodie (I'm not), we all can probably agree that it's better for our bodies and our communities to eat and buy locally grown and seasonal foods. This is a small and perfect opportunity to not only eat and shop for your food wisely, but to support a very cool educational program as well. I work at City but I'm NOT affiliated with the Farm, I'm really just proud of this tiny speck of dirt and goodness in the middle of the city.

This farmer's market is the product of a very cool program that has converted a large chunk of the school's property from grass to a bustling farm that includes a wide array of veggies and fruits. The people that run this program are super cool, nice, and extremely knowledgeable about their crops and organic agriculture in general. Definitely worth a trip if your anywhere near the area. They also allow volunteers to help out and learn about farming on Tuesday and Saturday mornings from 9am-Noon.
