    Yummy perogies!

Nice spot for lunch. The staff were friendly and prompt. Food was good. There were more than 1 item for the pescetarian in our group to select from. Any special requests were accommodated. I would definitely return for another visit. Wing night is Thursday, all you can eat fish and chips on Friday night, prime rib dinner Saturday night.

    Good ol' fish and chips!

Went here for dinner on a Friday night with 7 in our party (5 adults - 2 kids). We had to sit on the patio because they were totally packed with reservations. The staff were decently nice, but our waitress barely smiled. She was clearly stressed, but she was by no means rude. Considering how packed they were, the food came out decently fast, although the kids meals came out almost 10 minutes after the adults food. They were starving, and I found this lateness a little weird considering it was just chicken and fries. The deal of the day that I got was unlimited fish and chips, for the price of one piece ($11.99). Great deal, because at the very least I got 2 pieces and fries for $11.99, but I could have asked for more after I was finished!! Sweet deal for the very hungry. Fish was decent, fries were a little overdone. Our friend's chicken on their club sandwich was very small, and over-cooked with a slightly rubbery texture. Most of the menu is standard hotel pub fare. My wife got the Enchilada and it was very good. The patio chairs were plastic, but comfortable, and the tables were nicely spaced and set. I was amazed at how quiet the atmosphere was on the patio, but in a small town like Bayfield, it's always pretty laid back and relaxed. Bills came out promptly, and although the food was pretty standard, it was a great relaxing Friday night...even with two incredibly hyper children in tow.

The service was quite good. Cool vibe. Live music. But mediocre food...very mediocre. Kinda bad, actually.

Best, meatiest chicken wings ever. 50 cents on Thursday. Great fish and chips and burgers. Our favourite pub when at our cottage.

    The Ashwood Inn - Muskrat?

I'm a huge supporter of independent, local businesses and have never before written a negative…read morereview of a hotel or Inn, but my young son and I were made to feel like an inconvenience at the Ashwood. We received a text saying that contactless check-in (due to Covid, even though it's March 2023), meant the door to our room would be left unlocked with the key inside. Given that this is a pitch-dark country roadside motel (under the guise of the name "Inn") , I felt this was creepy. Anyone aware of the check-in system could have been waiting inside the room. I'm a woman, and was travelling with my child. As we approached the suite, we noticed a huge can of cigarette butts perched on the windowsill. The door from outside turned out to be locked, so we entered through the deserted lobby. We found the inside hallway door to our room unlocked. The outside door was jammed. On our second trip though the lobby to bring our luggage inside, two women emerged from behind the front desk (from what appeared to be their home) and announced (in a friendly way) that we'd need to come and go via the outside door to our room because the front desk and entrance were closed 8pm-8am. It was around 8:45pm at the time. I explained that the door to our room was jammed, but they did not offer to check it or put us in a different room, even though we appeared to be their only guests for the night. Next, we discovered what appeared to be a blood stain on the quilt, right where a person would sit. Because we'd been informed in no uncertain terms that the front desk was closed, we simply removed the quilt and turned up the heater, which was extremely loud and smelled of hot dust. There were no extra blankets to be found. When I politely brought these issues to the Inn's attention at check-out, the response was defensive, implying I should have contacted the front desk or done a better job of searching for blankets (apparently housed in the TV cabinet, the drawers of which were also jammed -or painted- shut). Apparently, everything is the customer's fault at the Ashwood. You're probably thinking, why didn't you just cut your losses, run screaming from this apparent dive and find a good, safe hotel? The answer is, freezing rain. I recognize that it's low season in a beach town, but under no circumstances in any season would I be okay with finding a stain like this on a bedspread, with being made to feel unsafe and unwelcome from the moment of arrival or with having to deal with broken/jammed door locks. Before leaving, we walked past the advertised indoor pool, out of pure curiosity. It was out of order, and the hallway leading to it smelled strongly of mold and mildew. The Inn had every opportunity to make this situation right for us. I provided honest, polite feedback. Instead, they took no responsibility, offered no refund, discount or even future stay (as most respectable hotels would have done). My follow-up text (still polite) went undelivered (I assume my number was blocked - they already had my money). This is why I'm choosing to post a public review. Do not be fooled by the cute, beachy-vibe photos of this place. Apart from the stain, it was relatively clean, comfortable and quiet. However, the service we received was nothing short of abysmal. The baby muskrat was cute and harmless, though.

The pictures are a lot better than reality. The rooms are quaint but it is all basically one big…read moreroom so if you are in a group, don't expect any privacy. Even upstairs is connect with an open balcony. If that is your thing then great, but not good for young kids as the stairs are dangerous. There is no real beach nearby. There is a small breach in the down across the river but any half decent beach is a 20 min drive. Due to covid, they are only allowing one family to be in the pool per hour which you need to make a reservation. This is a good idea but you really need to plan ahead.

Booking mistakes were made, the hotel became run down, staff not friendly and rooms were rarely or never cleaned during our stay, this year we booked rooms for about 17 people with stays varying from from 2 nights to 3 and 4 nights. upon checking in most room assignments were wrong and lengths of stay were wrong and most rooms were double booked. Our weekend golf tournament was cut short and most had to vacate there room and go home early. As a group we have spent thousands of dollars at the hotel, restaurnat and bar, but the staff did not seem to care. They were more interested in us leaving and their double booked guests paying more money. The ownership at The Bedford should probably look for a new business adventure that does not require "Customer Service". We will definately be looking for a new golf venue for next year. it it sad because Goderich is a very beutiful town to stay in and places like the Bedford leave a bad taste.

We would consider staying here again if the staff was nicer, but the woman at the front desk was snippy and not very friendly. Pros: great location, clean room, free parking, good coffee, reasonable price. Cons: rooms really need updating, poor breakfast options (just white bagels), not very friendly staff.
