Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the Alberta Yoga College (AYC) as an organization that provides quality Yoga Teacher training. Rob Walker will tell you that you need to buy unnecessary products in order to teach. Case in point, telling you that you need four special blankets costing $50 each in order to do plow pose. He will insult you in class if he feels that you are diverting female attention away from him. When I was a student with the AYC, I was setting up my blocks to prepare for a pose. As I was doing that, he rudely interrupts and "attempts" to correct me despite the fact I was not done setting up my blocks. He then utters in front of my trainee peers "It's not that complicated!" This is an individual who preaches and teaches non-violent communication as part of his program yet he hypocritically insults people so that he can boost his own ego. He will also rudely interrupt you when you attempt to ask questions. I wanted to ask a question regarding mulabanda. As I was doing that, he interrupts and states it takes to long to understand. Well then Robert, you should have developed a better training program. As my profession involves designing and facilitating training programs, I am well adept in proper training methodology. Part of that methodology means promoting a safe space for a trainee to learn. Hurling insults detract from that and unfortunately, Robert Walker does not understand that. He will also play favorites and give more attention to others. When I was doing my training at the AYC, he allowed another trainee to skip a class. Also, a training program needs to have something called "knowledge transfer" meaning the knowledge you acquire in the training needs to transfer to the role. Various aspects of the AYC program does not have that. Specifically, Robert's brother spending over an hour on books you should be reading and discussing the history of Yoga. None of which has any knowledge transfer. I provide this explanation of my experience not out of spite but to warn the reader and to raise my voice so that I may stand up for myself. Robert may respond to this by sharing a text I sent him. I will say now that he is free to do that and it only highlights how dominant his ego is. I also take back my words that he provided quality instruction...he did not as I have highlighted above. Knowing Robert, he will probably use his responses to other people's reviews to insult me and my review. That is just fine by me and serves to highlight his lack of maturity and his inability to heed his own teachings of non-violent communication. Robert may also respond by making fun of my name...again feel free... :).There are other Yoga Teacher training schools in Calgary and I encourage the reader to research them. However, be wary of the AYC. I have had the opportunity to learn from more enlightened Yoga Instructors who have done the opposite of what Robert did above. I would like to add this is a man who cannot accept the error of his ways and cannot apologize for his actions. Clearly a man controlled by his ego. Also the fact that he has such little compassion for the reasons why I moved shows his true nature. He may respond to this review saying that he helped me find a Yoga Instructor to apprentice with when l moved to Ontario. This is a lie. I had to find my own Yoga Teacher to apprentice with. In addition, when he mailed my certificate, he sent folded and crumpled. With other graduates, he framed their certificates for them. read more

Having taken this yoga teacher training in Calgary, I couldn't be happier with the results. It is comprehensive, meeting all the standards for Yoga Alliance certification. The instructors are well established in the yoga community, and are very knowledgeable, friendly and open. They taught in-depth foundation and key alignment features of each pose (which is something many of my yoga friends who took other training courses have told me was not covered in their other programs), as well as sequencing and class-planning. In addition to the asanas, a number of guest experts & instructors were brought in to teach anatomy (e.g. a physiotherapist), sanskrit, philosophy (professor), meditation, communication, pre-natal, injury awareness/prevention, and an insurance broker. Plus, taking 3-4 months to fully complete all aspects (including apprenticeship), allowed me time to actually absorb the information and integrate it into my life, versus a 4-week intensive, which I probably would have forgotten more easily. I felt totally confident with the lessons and the supportive community this program offered, and I was able to begin teaching yoga right away upon graduating. Thank you Cathy & Rob! read more

This Yoga college was so amazing I honestly don't know where to start. The program is excellently planned out with great flexibility for the students. Rob and the rest of the faculty are all really good teachers with obviously tons of knowledge and experience in there subjects. Weather your looking to teach or just deepen your practice I would definitely recommend this program to anyone as it did both those for me. I think Robs patient, kind and supportive attitude is guaranteed to make you comfortable teaching yoga after completing the program. One thing I must say is that the Alberta Yoga College is way more than a yoga school as the students, teachers, teachings and the entire community is bound to have a positive effect on your daily life. The atmosphere created in their new location can be life changing as I witnessed in myself and many others. I would doubt that you could find a better yoga teacher training course than this one here. When I look back its surprising but I think I could honestly say that it was one of the best things I have ever done in my life, and will likely always carry what I learned as the foundation of my yoga practice and teaching. read more

I was very impressed by the quality of instruction provided at Alberta Yoga College (AYC). Unlike other yoga schools I researched, I found that AYC stood above the rest, particularly in that they have specialized experts teaching the various subjects within the curriculum (as compared to one instructor teaching the entire program). The environment of the school was warm, accepting and very inviting to individuals of all different backgrounds and experience levels. Overall, the program was a life changing experience for me, and I am forever grateful for the amazing instruction and learning that took place over the last 3 months. I highly recommend AYC to anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in yoga, or to those who are looking to broaden their understanding in the field. read more

i absolutely recommend the Alberta Yoga Teacher Training College! The instruction was meticulous, and gave me great confidence in teaching my own classes. As a mature student, I was nervous to enrol in a yoga certification course, but Cathy and Rob always made me feel as though I had something valuable to contribute to the community. The program is so flexible, and if a class is missed in one semester, it can be picked up in the next! It truly caters to our busy lifestyles! The curriculum is appropriate to a full understanding of yoga, and the instructors for the various modules were experts in their fields. I felt ready to teach when I had completed this certification course and highly recommend it for others! read more

I can't say enough good things about the program. I have learned more about myself these past two months than I have in 38 years. It really is a well oiled machine with quality instruction. The schedule allows you to work full time while completing the course. Rob's precision, expectations, the assignments, reading material and his constructive feedback have made this an experience that is both challenging and enthralling. The rest of the faculty are top notch instructors, professors and experts. I will be very proud to say I received my certification from the Alberta Yoga College when we complete the fall program in November 2019. Highly recommended! read more

I am pleased with what I was able to take away from this enriching yoga teacher training program. The faculty are all so inspirational in their own personal expertise area. The depth and breadth that the college offers in it's program creates a fully rounded very capable teacher by the completion of the program. I loved that we taught from day one! The training space has a very unique sacred feeling to it. I am a more complete person, who has a much better understanding of who I am after taken this program. I also have gone on to become a full-time yoga professional and am very very happy to be on this path. Namaste! read more

This program was wonderful. The faculty were very supportive, friendly and they were very willing to share their knowledge and experiences from different styles and viewpoints in the world of yoga, which prepared us students for becoming teachers far more than just asana practice and book work could ever teach. The material covered was thoroughly prepared, organized and presented to the students which made it easy to work at your own pace. Highly recommended, the program is a perfect choice for anyone looking to pursue teaching yoga or even broadening your own knowledge of the practice of yoga. read more

This program is very flexible as it allows you to complete the classes outside of work hours and if you miss any classes, you can make them up the next time they're offered - usually a couple months later. I started the program when it was convenient for me which happened to be part way through the term and then made up the classes I missed later on. The program is fairly comprehensive, touching on many of the different aspects of yoga. I learned a lot and feel like this experience was a big step in my lifelong yoga journey. Thanks Rob and Cathy and all the people I met along the way read more

This Yoga Teacher Training course is by far the best I have come across. When I was looking into getting my certificate in calgary, this course was the best option in terms of flexibility, experience, universally recognized, tax benefit, and expertise from the instructors. I was pregnant during the course length and there was no pressure put onto me. In fact, I felt rejuvenated every time I got out of class! The instructors and fellow students are so supportive and I looked foward to each and every class. If you take this course you will not regret it! Enjoy! read more
