This happened to me on the morning of June 5, about two months ago. A little after 10:00 a.m., I got into my car to go shopping. The moment I started the engine, there was an unbelievably loud noise. I was so shocked and confused that I didn't know what had happened and couldn't even move for a moment. I turned off the engine and started it again, but the same extremely loud noise continued. I suspected that something might be wrong underneath the car, so I checked under it and discovered that my catalytic converter had been stolen. I immediately drove to the Shell station on The Alameda. Tommy checked my car and quickly contacted a Toyota dealership to see if they had the catalytic converter in stock. Fortunately, they did. Tommy immediately ordered the part and told me that it could be installed the same day. Tommy said that I would receive a call when the work was finished and that I could come back in the evening to pick up my car. Just as promised, my car was ready that evening. Honestly, I believe that if I had taken my car somewhere else, especially directly to a dealership, it could easily have taken two weeks or even longer to replace the catalytic converter. What impressed me the most was how quickly and efficiently Tommy handled everything. The price was also much more reasonable than taking my car directly to the dealership. Tommy was kind, honest, and extremely helpful from beginning to end. I am truly grateful that I chose to bring my car to the Shell station on The Alameda. It was absolutely the right decision. I had a nice experience at "Alameda Shell" in San Jose. Not a great experience, but I got what I needed and the clerk was very nice. First off, Alameda Shell is in San Jose! I live in Alameda,CA, and I had to look at the sign twice. What? Yes, it's on The Alameda. Which means...."tree lined avenue" or a "a public walk shaded with trees." Anyway, I stopped for gas on a Monday evening. All the pumps were cash only. No card use due to the network was down. So I went inside and gave the friendly clerk $40, and asked to use the restroom. The restroom was decent for a gas station. Not "spit shine" clean, but okay. Other drivers didn't seem to mind paying cash, so the place was full of cars. Ok to go to for smog check. I got oil replaced and repair man forgot to put a gasket back. I leaked oil and could not find source until I went to a different shop and found out what Shell missed. Now I have oil spills to clean at home. Would not recommend for any repairs read more

Came by for a fill up the other day. Experience was okay as there was a sufficient supply of both paper towels and the squeegee was in good working order. The pump "clicked" before my tank was full..maybe it was decrepit? ...after a few tries, and manually filling the car, managed to completely fill my tank! CREEPY GAS STATION ATTENDANT THAT WORKED NIGHT SHIFT ON 12/15!!!! My boyfriend and i had every intention to pump gas and get a drink but we were held up on a phone call so we were just sitting idly next to the pump for less than 5 minutes AND THE ATTENDANT COMES OUT WITHOUT SAYING A WORD TO US AND TAKES A PICTURE OF OUR CAR!!!! When we confronted him on why he did so, he said "it's the law" and he needs to take a picture of the car if no one hasn't gotten gas when they've been sitting there for 10 minutes???? Like i said, we definitely haven't been there for that long and if there is a law stating such thing, we have no problem with it but he could've approached this in a much respectful way rather than being a complete creep coming behind our vehicle and snapping a pic WITHOUT speaking to us!!! came here after a move to fill my uhaul - using a walmart moneycard for this transaction/move. It takes my card and gives me the gas... $37 worth. Then I suddenly see on the MoneyCard app that $125 is also removed on a separate transaction! We go in to find out if they know the pump is set up to steal from people & the clerk actually pretends to know what happened, tells us he has that happen, too. I had him call the manager, they had a lengthy convo but all I got out of it was that in 3 business days the "deposit" will be refunded. I told the kid to stop telling customers his opinion, find out next time wtf is going on, and to have the owner put a sign on the pumps that THERE WILL BE A $125 HOLD ON ALL DEBIT AND PREPAID CARDS. For those who don't know: the owner is the one who decides whether a "hold" will be placed on a card & how much. Nowadays with instant transactions there is NO REASON to hold any amount on any card prepaid or otherwise. The refund came Tuesday a.m. almost 48 hours later. Not cool. Unfortunately, in a time that anyone can come here with their own ideas about how free and easy it is to scam people, the idea that any pump at any station is going to be a typical experience is just no longer true. I always held Shell in high regards until now. Please check the ratings on review sites. I might not have come here had I done just a little sneakapeek at yelp beforehand. Quick and easy location for a Shell station right on the Alameda! I pass it every day twice on my commute to and from work. Lots of pumps and ample space to manuever depending on where your tank is. they have in house mechanics/smog and sell all the typical snacks/drinks/smogs. The HIGHLIGHT is that this is the only local Shell that does the B1G1 SKI FREE deals with purchase of 10 gallons of gas or more! This is perfect when snowboarding season comes around as it cuts the lift ticket prices down! They are typically only for Northstar and Sierra and you need to check the blackout dates! Take the voucher and buy a ticket full price, then sell the free once for a $10-20 less that the full price and bam! You have now hit the slopes for dirt cheap! read more

I took my car in to have smog check done so I can finish registration for my car. First problem was they gouge the shit out of the consumer on the price of this mandatory service. I agreed even though kinda priced too high just to have it done and I wouldn't have to worry about it. After about 10 minutes of the service manager inspecting under my hood, not some flunky but the manager, informed he he was unable to perform the smog. I asked him why and he told me he was unable to identify the required smog equipment in my vehicle. This a California "star certified" smog check station and a general repair shop. They could not even identify smog parts what would they do fixing your vehicle?! If I could give a negative star count I would. Now...for getting gas, this place just nothing extraordinary...nothing majorly different. However, I have to give a glowing review for Santana, the mechanic that works at this gas station. I went into the station to get gas. But I had literally just had my spare tire put on before, at work, because I had a flat. No, I was not a happy camper at that point. I was just going to take it to the tire repair place the next day to get the tire fixed. But, on a lark, when I went in to get gas, I asked Santana the mechanic if they repaired tires there. He said they did. I asked if they could fix my tire right then, and he said they could. What I didn't notice until during my wait time was that I had brought my tire to him at 5:55pm and he normally closed at 6pm. Santana could have easily said no to me because it was so close to closing time (in fact another place that I called DID say that to me that night) but he didn't. Instead he took my tire, repaired it, and put it back onto my car. He did it regardless of the fact that it made him late. I really appreciated that. 9/30/14 I came here because my car had a problem with cooling system rising up when the car stop...As soon as I got there Tommy(mechanic) greet us with a warm welcome.I explained to him and he told me how long it would take and he started fixing it right away. He tested the car after he fixed it make sure that problem solved . He didn't charged me for the service. On the other hand, he said he's happy that nothing serious about my car. I get my cars smogged here and the guy that works in the garage is great! Extremely friendly and honest. I had a high mileage car burning oil that failed smog, he was able to fix it the same day (some sort of gasket problem) and stuck to his quote, which was very reasonable. Highly recommend Tommy and his services. He examined my car within an hour of it being towed there after it broke down on me. He fixed it and I drove away and it seemed to be running fine but then a few days later I was in Livermore and something went wrong again with my car and it wouldn't start. I called Tommy to tell him what happened and he immediately called a towing company to come and get my car to bring it back to San Jose to his shop. He examined it and determined that it was an accidental mistake he made during the repair that was causing my new problem. This place is great! I especially love the repair station. Ken, the new mechanic here is a fabulous guy. He is extremely nice and helpful. I brought my car here on Monday for a smog check but it failed the smog. Fortunately, i got Ken. He explained why my car failed and told me what i needed to do to my car in order to pass. He gave me a reasonable price when i decided to fix my car with him. After my car was fixed, i came back for a re-test. Amazingly, i found out that the re-test was free and my car certainly passed the test. I am so glad that i brought it to Ken. I am very pleased with his service. I will definitely come back whenever i need to do anything else for my car. When you guys need anything for your car, make sure you bring it to Ken. Ask for Tommy There is usually no reason to review a gas station, unless it also has a service bay and a mechanic. Well, I have to tell you, Tommy is now my new mechanic! I came first for a simple smog test. Unfortunately, cars with over 200,000 miles don't always pass the test! I have to be honest, I was not sure to want my car to be fixed in a gas station, so I shopped around but the quotes I was given were beyond the value of the car; I then went back to Tommy to ask him if he could do it, and I am glad I did. Tommy is a rare breed of mechanics, he cares for his clients, and it shows. He kept me informed throughout the day, and did his best to save me money. He even stayed 1 hour past his closing time to make sure I would have my car back at the end of the day as promised. Be kind, don't make him do that too often, but how many people can say that about their mechanic? Give him a try, you'll be glad you did. read more

I pulled in Sunday afternoon to get a smog check, the guy said he was closing soon and could do it quickly...great! After he already started he rudely said it was going to be $60. I held my tongue because I needed the smog check to renew my registration. Then he said I hadn't driven enough and had to come back the next day after driving at least 20 minutes...fine. Came back the next day after a 40 min drive only to hear him say drive more, so I drove another 40 minutes thinking that was plenty of time...wrong, he told me it wasn't enough and I should drive at least 100 more miles to get some chip warm enough. I told him that's impossible and that I didn't have time for this, he said, "blame the government for the new regulation. Not my problem, go drive more or I have to fail your smog test." I asked for my money back, his response..."go drive more and come back tomorrow." I left in tears...great customer service to start a wonderful Monday, and still haven't found the so called "new law" that states you have to drive at least 100 miles to get accurate smog check. read more

If you want to repair your car, never go there. The service is bad.The guy seems asking you spending more and more money which you don't need to spend. And honestly, his skill and knowledge is not qualified. If it's not the nearest auto shop near my office, I won't go there twice with bad experience. And now, I will never go there. I was here before to change the engine oil. When I picked up my car, the guy said the breaks had problems and I must change all the breaks. It's wired because I just did a mechanical check of the car last week and the report shows that breaks are good. So I didn't change my break at his. But! the day after, my breaks sounds loudly. Isn't it wired your breaks had problems right after he said there's problem here. I don't know what did he do to my car. And last time I went there to change the battery. He said your coolant is not enough. I let him refill. Then he said the coolant sensor is not working. Ok, change a new one. Then he said your wipers are old.... ok.....a new one.
