The quality of faculty that I have interacted with has been very good, but I obviously cannot generalise that to all the faculty. Classrooms are large and spacious. Enough elevators, washrooms on alternate floors. A cute little cafeteria downstairs that serves good coffee. Will check out some pastries the next time I'm there. City lit is meant to focus on continuing education and they offer a huge range of vocational subjects too. I saw a lot of posters regarding counselling for jobs and courses, so they are concerned with skills that can be used to up your resume or make a job change. - massage, therapy, computers, languages etc But they also offer courses in drama, food, wine tasting and jewellery design. KCL is the least professional institution that I have ever encountered and provided the worst…read moreeducational experience of my life. The professors are not as engaged and do not provide as much time with students as they usually do at American universities. The educational services are nonexistent. If you are not a native English speaker, as a lot of the students, there are no opportunities for writing or academic assistance as foreign students get in American universities. The buildings are poorly maintained. They do not allow you to review your papers or problem sets, denying you the opportunity to learn. Most of all, they strike and use the students as leverage. The administration is totally incompetent, failing on all aspects from tuition, they overcharged me multiple times, to taking forever to respond to emails. There is no customer service and they care more about bureaucratic processes than helping students. My high school in the US was better run and the teachers and administration were more engaged in making me a better student than here at KCL.

I wish I didn't…read morehave to say so and I do write this relunctantly but unfortuntaley, this has been my experience. From day one, the Law School's administration has been a shambles. Information was confusing and chaotic and while you're bombarded with a plethora of emails and updates, including notifications and retractions or corrections of said notifications (can't admin staff just get things right first time round?! and WHY so much unnecessary communication?), getting to the information you actually want and need usually seems long winded. Some staff members really do try their best (and I've had some lovely tutors) but there's this feeling that the college (or at least the Law School) does not run as a well oiled machine, which does not fill me with confidence. Having previously studied at Sussex University, I am not entirely satisfied with the quality of teaching and/or resources at Birkbeck - for one the library could be better. The Mooting program however, is great and perhaps it has encouraged the two stars. Secondly, for the exorbitant tuition fees that are charged, the teaching level doesn't correlate. You spend half the time feeling like the law program is being thrown at you at high speed (which is very overwhelming) and the other half trying not to drown in the pit of chaos. The main building does look a bit dated and some rooms are run down. Saying that however, the new group study area is a plus and is quite relaxed. I have pretty much pulled up my sleeves and rolled with the punches to get through my course because the alternative would be to let these distractions derail me. Birkbeck is not all bad at all however, the bad tends to outshine the good and that much frustration isn't good for anyone's studies. As I work full time, I'm pretty much stuck at Birkbeck but for anyone not tied to studying during in the evening, go elsewhere.

In a quaint square a 5 minute walk from Holborn / Russell square this centre is very reasonable and has a variety of well taught courses ranging from languages through to writing, arts and crafts and business. The centre is friendly and has an excellent canteen which is also very good value. Prices are rock bottom and there are discounts available for concessions. If you are thinking of learning a new language, improving your computer skills or finding out more about philosophy check this place out. And if that isn't enough to make it super easy you are able to enrol and pay online.

I liked the Robert Emerson book of essays for 2.50 on sale, and a book about teaching your grandma how to text. This place offers free tea and course for adults about love and life.There are little presents here (like poster books of quotes, that are like SO DEEP). Apparently, the School of Life declares itself to free from dogma, not affiliated to any religious, educational, charitable or other organisations. I cannot see how that's possible to be honest. I know, as well as everyone else that the School of Life, was or still is owned and founded by Alain de Botton, author and philosopher, along side with Sophie Howarth, a former curator from the Tate Modern. I know that the shop has changed substantially since 2008, when the School of Life first opened it's door for the first time. As of late, my retail experience while browsing inside the School of Life philosophy bookshop, has been somewhat completely disappointing. I find all the staff very cold, dismissive, ignorant and more importantly, totally disinterested in what you are looking. I wouldn't even waste your brain cells on the School of Life - at all. To call themselves, "School of Life" seems nice and beautiful on the outside. But on the inside, as soon as you walk into their premises, I find the staff incredibly cold, rude, condescending, patronizing, true ignorance and very distant. To be very clear to anyone who reads this: the staff at the School of Life, never say hello to you, when you enter their premises and they never say goodbye to when you exit their premises. That to me, is totally unjust, considering that they stock some pricey black crew-neck Philosophy jumper, designed by Bella Freud; I'd rather go to Dover Street Market, to buy a Comme des Garçons jumper from those guys, at least I am being served by polite and decent Japanese retail staff unlike the rotten and cold rude staff members at the School of Life. Considering the retail prices are slightly more expensive then in Mayfair shops - I seriously hate the staff who run the School of Life, with absolute passion. Mentioning ignorant, I find the retail manager (male) - I find him totally ignorant, impolite and very dismissive. I will not mention any names of staff members, however I will confirm that the staff who run the School of Life, a total waste of human DNA.
