If you want to spend your whole life / day on a freeway, this will be your freeway. There is always constant traffic, filled with people who can't drive. People who drive on the 91 leave large gaps in-between them and the car in front of them. When I mean large gaps, I mean gaps enough to fit 5 cars. There's also large pockets of traffic and in order to get anywhere, you have to go around these people who drive way under the speed limit. Sometimes I would just give up on my destination because the drive on this freeway is ridiculous. I hate this freeway. There's constantly traffic and constant car accidents in either directions. If this were a restaurant, the soup would be roaches with expired sriracha, the entree would consist of half fried worms with gravy from the bottom of a dumpster, and dessert would be toe fungus from 1000 people, dry-aged for 21 days in a humid broth of cheese and bread. For awhile, the 71 to 91 West connector was closed...and there seems to be no improvement. The 91 East past Yorba Linda might as well be a parking lot due to the traffic, and lack of work on the "construction". Somehow, even when traffic on every other freeway is light, the 91 West and 55 South connector gets plugged up...like a 100 year old sink with a lifetime of hair, pubes and dandruff plugging up the piping. Sadly, I can't really make up my mind with the 91. It's like a love/hate relationship. The days you aren't stuck in bumper to bumper idiocy it's like any other highway, but the days you run into the congestion areas (215/60, Corona, 91/15, FastTrak area, etc) you really hate yourself for it. California State Route 91 is both a good and bad road... I have had a love hate relationship with it on more levels than I can name for a long long time. Depending on what time and what direction you want to head this freeway is either great or horrible. Like several others there are several distinct portions of the freeway. There is the Riverside section where it begins at the 60 and goes to the 15, the section from the 15 through the canyon to the 55/57, the remainder of OC from the 55/57 to the 605 and the 605 west till it ends. This freeway is in the best shape overall of most of the freeways in So Cal. I have commuted on this freeway and driven it to avoid other areas more often than not. so hit this bad boy up and enjoy the ride! read more

Hate this freeway. Thank god I chose to live in my own place when my parents bought a house in Corona. They closed the 15N freeway and the 91 at the ramp, so the only choice for everyone was to take the 15S. Thankfully this was the freeway we needed to take, but sucks for the thousands of other cars trying to go places. This freeway construction is just ridiculous. Why would you close both freeways at the same damn time? Accidents waiting to happen, smh. So stupid. And yes, I'm mad. California for ya. read more

THERES A REVIEW FOR 91 FREEWAY?? hahahhaa *cough* ok. ive calmed down now...so my thing on the 91..it gets me where i want to go, easier than local. took it going to Beach Cities, took it going back to the IE. its not too bad, considering most of the cracks on the freeways are filled (aside from coming BACK to IE, where toll opens to carpool? MAJOR cracks there, need to fix asap! back when i had the toyota, my wheels locked into the crack and steered me off course for a split second!). anyway. if you can, take the 91 in the mornings. leave 9-10AM, come back before 3PM. cleanest and really no traffic. but if you get caught in rush hour...i wish you luck. like anthony b said before it, its a love/hate relationship read more

This freeway is the reason they call the drive through Corona ... "Slow-rona". Any time of day, this is the most horrible drive. 30 miles can take as much as 2 hours in "normal" conditions and longer if there is an accident. The solution is simple... In the morning, open the opposite side fast track lanes for the western drive and in the evening, open the opposite side fast tack lanes for the eastern drive. This has been used in cities like Seattle for years. It would take some minor freeway improvements that cost a lot less than adding new lanes. read more

THE Worst place on the planet!! I'd rather live in Afghanistan than drive this freeway. It's always busy! Even at 11 at night there's still an absurd amount of cars. The weekends are terrible. It's worse than a Friday afternoon. Traffic is backed up for 20 miles! The drivers on this highway are the worst. Everyone's either going 100mph or 40. Everyone in their oversized pickup truck also feels the need to drive as if the cars around them are just cones. CHP only seems to be around when it's late or night or in the middle of the day. There's always construction at 1am which causes even more traffic. Some portions of the lanes have god awful grooves which cause cars to go haywire and there trucks EVERYWHERE!!! Simply an awful freeway. I used to take the 22 across from Orange to Long beach, and maybe because its a LA county fwy or something, but its considerably worse!! All kinds of crap on the fwy like metal dustpans, 2 x4, couches. just a horrible fwy. The 91 freeway is the worst - there is never traffic until you have to get on it to go somewhere! The carpool lanes end for the stupid FastTrack lanes, so thats a bust, the trucks ruin the lanes because they create huge grooves in the pavement so it trys to literally rip the wheel out of your hands, and by time they are done fixing/widening it in like 2 more years, it will probably be useless cause another million people will have moved to Orange County or will be commuting through from Corona / IE on the 91! read more

Absolutely can not stand this freeway! The only reason people we know drive on this thing is to go to places like Las Vegas, Arizona, etc. Nobody in our family drives this freeway voluntarily. There has to be a reason or place that we need to get to in order to drive this freeway. During rush hours, it will take you hours to get anywhere. When traffic is flowing, people are speeding like crazy! We have seen road rage break out and lots of dumb drivers who are not paying attention! Nearly every time we've gotten on this freeway, we have nearly been hit. Last time we were on this freeway, there was a bicycle in the center lane! Drivers swerving and nearly colliding to avoid the abandoned and run over bicycle! Not to mention, if you keep driving long enough, this freeway runs right through some of the scummiest areas of the OC and North Long Beach where you would not want your car to break down. read more

Overall, the 91 freeway in its entirety is "OK." However, between Orange and Riverside counties, it's passable (no pun intended) at best. Between Yorba Linda Bld/ Weir Canyon and the city of Corona lies one of the worst tracts of pavement in the United States. Traveling eastbound at peak hours weekdays between 4-6pm, you will struggle for 30-40 minutes, typically, to simply travel about 5.5 miles to Green River Road, and probably another 10 - 20 minutes thereafter before reaching I-15. That's an average of about 10MPH, if you're lucky. You may think you're cleaver by getting off at Yorba Linda, or even earlier eastbound at Imperial Hwy, and taking La Palma or Santa Ana Canyon east past heavy freeway traffic. Neither of these roads goes through from Yorba Linda or Anaheim Hills into Corona, and you'll eventually have to get back onto the freeway. In fact, that's the biggest problem with the eastbound freeway. Westbound in the morning, once you escape from Corona, traffic is quite lovely (until you get to the 55) as traffic exits onto the 241 tollway, La Palma, and Gypsum Canyon. But in the evening heading back, all three of these roads merge onto the freeway within the same mile stretch. And how many lanes are added to SR-91 for 6 lanes of merging traffic? Only one extra lane, thanks to the geography of the canyon walls. Even the freeway expansion happening in Corona won't improve this pinch spot, which is one of Orange County's "elephants in the room." The MetroLink is one option, but is still a bit cost-prohibitive unless you can go all-in and buy a month pass. But if you have kids to pick up in between work and home, it's not much of an option. If you live in Corona and commute on the 91, I'd suggest the Santa Ana River Trail instead, if you have a bicycle and no obligations. Just park your car on Green river and hit the trail head near the golf course. It might take you longer to get to work, but you actually may be about even on the ride home, considering the ponderous speed of traffic in the evenings. There are plenty of bike lanes in Orange County to accommodate bikes once you're off trail (and if there aren't, you should let your city know). And you'll have to worry less about hitting a gym. read more

This short review is only based on the actual road, not traffic as that is too much of a variable. I love to drive, so traffic is never an issue, even if I pay for 91 octane and sit there for 3 hours. The 91 has too many issues where the road has been worked on and then goes back to a rough surface. It's better than what the 710 close to Long Beach use to be, but it just seems really bumpy. The on ramp to the 57 that everyone complains about is long and provides enough time to move over. People just wait until the last possible minute because that is how most people work in life. Off ramps like on Imperial have just been under construction for so long. I understand freeways take time, but it seems the 405 off ramps can be down forever and with all of its use still be fully functional before this freeway gets its act together. I'm not a fan of fast pass lanes that take away from carpool either. read more

Both stars exist because I see the value in the existence of the 91. Beyond that F You for taking 2 hours to get me from The 55 to The 15 that is about 30 miles. Perhaps if the stupid toll road lanes were for everybody it would be better for all. I should give you an additional; star for the 40 minutes it takes to get from The 15 back to The 55. However, it takes an eternity to get back if you choose to come home at a normal time after a weekend then you are sitting with all the same people as you were with on the drive out. I just don't see how people can possibly do this on the daily. But we have no choice but to return time and again. read more

If you're going on the 91 east after 3PM especially after 5PM, you mind as well pull over to the side and start on your tax forms... because traffic will be tight like a virgin. SO ... the Fast Trak is supposed to save time. It takes approx. 45 minutes just to GET on the Fastrak (just pass McKinley) on the 91. THE long line is ridiculous and car after car after car cut in at the last minute therefore the line DOES NOT MOVE! What have we accomplished?? Absolute joke. Please replace whoever is in charge of not only the construction but the fwy in general. I have to drive it Mon thru Fri and it takes me 2 hrs to go 56 miles each way. Today on a Sat we are going less than 5 miles an hr at 730 in the morning and the express lanes are closed for maintenance. Common sense would say to do repairs and maintenance at night..stop disrupting people's lives because you are idiots and don't give a crap because you probably don't have to drive it everyday! !!!!!! read more
