Chicken satay (up top), veggie fried rice (middle), pad thai with tofu (bottom)

Let me start by saying... BE PATIENT. They cook to order, so that means that it might take a little bit longer to get your order. THE WAIT IS WORTH IT. I ordered pad thai with tofu, pad see ew with beef, fried rice (no meat, just veggies), chicken satay, and an order of spring rolls. Everything is reasonably priced. From the kind gentleman with a great attitude and sense of humor to the food: all great. The pad thai and the spring rolls were my favorite from the main dishes. But I will say, please do yourself a favor and order the coconut tapioca because it is the most amazing thing in the world. I am SO full right now, but I can't stop eating it as I'm typing this review. Tonight is my last night in North Shore and I already know I'm going to try to find something similar to this back home.

I love Thai food so I was excited to find this food truck near our east shore Airbnb. I chose my standard Thai order of beef pad see ew with no veggies and it was pretty good but maybe not the best I've ever had. The noodles were a little thicker than I'd prefer but the sauce was flavorful. It's next to a few other food trucks so if you have people in your group who aren't in the mood for Thai, there's some options nearby.

Spring rolls - actually comes with 5 and were tasty but a bit overcooked (greasy)

Pretty good, fresh food from this cute food truck with easy parking and picnic tables. The shrimp pad that was tasty but definitely used ketchup and very light on any veggies (decent number of shrimp), so was middle of the road for me; I'd probably try a different noodle dish next time. Similarly, the green curry (which does come with rice), had a good warm heat, nice coconut flavor, great eggplant and lots of Thai basil, but it included broccoli, and the broccoli flavor kind of pervaded the curry. This means it was tasty but not what I'd think of as a classic green curry if that's what you're craving. Spring rolls were crispy, loaded, and had a good black pepper seasoning, but were slightly overcooked so a bit grease saturated. Finally, the chicken satay had a great peanut sauce, and was served with cabbage and rice so was a nice meal. Flavor delicious but it's chicken breast so was a bit dry. All in, I enjoyed everything but nothing was perfect. This means I'd definitely return, but will likely try different menu items.

HEY YA'll! What a find at the Original Thai Food Express! We actually found this spot by pure coincidence when we were downtown Honolulu visiting a small farmers/craft market. We came across a small table selling fresh fruit and Thai plates when we met the owner. Unfortunately, they were almost out of everything, but we conversated with the owner, and we just hit it off on a personal level. His energy and passion he put into his food were evident, so we got his number and location and promised to stop by during our stay on the island. A few days later that Thai comfort food crave was hitting hard, so we traveled up along the coast and found this gem of a food truck! The setting is rustic, and it's nestled across from the shore with an awesome view of the ocean. A perfect spot for a picnic with your loved one and/or family. There's a few picnic tables, but if it's crowded, no worries, there's plenty of grass area to sit on down and enjoy an awesome meal. We ordered the papaya salad, chicken larb, drunken noodles with chicken, and mango sticky rice. To flush it down, we ordered some waters, a Thai coffee, and a Thai iced tea. The papaya salad was very good and teased your taste buds with a combination of spicey, sweet and sour, and salty flavors. When the combination is right, you know, and this was spot on! The chicken larb was also very good. It had a bit of heat at first bite, and then it was followed by some sweet and sour flavors. We like to squeeze a bit of lime on it for some extra flavor. The drunken noodles were savory with a bit of sweet and saltiness. The chicken was cooked perfectly and not overcooked, and for me, it was comfort food. I could eat this dish all day long. To finish off the meal, we ordered some mango sticky rice. It was pretty standard here, except the mango was perfectly ripe with sweet, citrusy, and almost melon like flavors. A sweet ending to an awesome meal. Overall, Thai Food Express was an awesome meal, and you won't be disappointed. If you want some onolicious food made with aloha, then give Thai Food Express a try. Until next time, my fellow Yelpers...stay hungry my friends!

Yellow curry with beef, jasmine rice, and spring rolls.

Got my yellow curry fix! 10 times better than the Elephant Truck on sunset...they have good prices, good portions, and good food! If you are ever in Punaluu, stop here at the Original Thaifood truck!

A fantastic north shore food truck! I stopped for the pho truck next door but decided to add some pad Thai from Thai food express. I made a great choice with this one! I tried both the chicken pad Thai and egg rolls. Chicken Pad Thai- flavorful, fresh and well portioned. I'd give this 4 of 5 stars Spring Rolls- these little rolls were probably the best I've ever had. No joke and a must add to your order! 5 of 5 stars! My order took a while but it was well worth the wait. Stop by this spot!

Lots of vegan options. Extremity friendly and helpful. We have been here three times already this is the best food we have eaten on the island. Being from south Louisiana we have high stands when it comes to flavor and food, love this place. Super fresh veggies, not greasy, big portions. Love it. Cute area to eat outside with friendly chickens.

Stopped by this place on our way around the island and I was stoked to find a Thai truck! We were pretty hungry, hadn't eaten much and on an adventure day. They were the last truck open in the lot so a few groups were waiting on food. Ours came out and we dug in. We all got different noodles. I wish there had been more sauce, as the dish was a bit pale and didn't have the usual flavor. My friend's noodles were pretty mushy and stuck together. I think maybe we caught the end of their day, because I've had takeout from them at someone's house that was much better. Hoping next time is a win!

Soooo sooo glad I stopped here for lunch because they are superb! Soon as you order you get a numbered timer so that you don't have to question if your order is ready. The young guy who works on the truck was very patient and friendly. He helped with explaining what their lunch menu consists of awhile we made a decision. I just could not believe their lunch plates were $7! Like what?? Amazinggggg. I'd keep eating here if I could. The food came out without 10-12 minutes and was nice and warm temped. Seemed just like an original Hawaii home cooked meal indeed. I loved how succulent and gravy-filled this garlic shrimp was. The cabbage added a nice bite to the dish. The rice was yummy yummy jasmine rice! Overall, nice portions great prices. Their lunch menu items/prices can't be beat!

This year, we were determined to make it early enough to finally try the Bald Guy, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The food was honestly divine. We tried the pan-fried poke, kalbi beef, furikake crusted salmon, chopped steak, and spam musubi, and every single thing was incredible. It was so good that we ended up eating here twice during our trip. Also, special shoutout to the mac and cheese because WOW... it is ridiculously good. My personal favorites were the poke, chopped steak, and kalbi beef, but truly everything we ordered was amazing. The staff was also super kind and helpful with all our questions. Just a heads up, they do sell out of certain items before closing, so definitely try to get there earlier rather than later. Cannot wait to come back!

This time I wanted to try the garlic shrimp bc I've only heard good things. My niece and her boyfriend were visiting and I wanted them to experience this food truck. They ordered a combo plate with the garlic shrimp and steak. The food was delicious. They actually rated it the best meal that had while they were on the island. That should tell ya something. The shrimp were big and cooked perfectly. Seasoned to perfection. Just the right amount of garlic and the extra sauce made for the best rice. I was happy with the quantity of shrimp too. Definitely a worth it meal in my book. I also got a teriyaki spam musubi to try. Also good. I like how they wrapped it. Just a slight variation from the ones I typically eat. Will definitely be back. I still want to try the salmon. We got in line just at the right time bc when we turned to sit down after ordering there was a long line that had formed behind us. Our food got done quickly and we sat down at the picnic tables to enjoy it. It was busy so we shared a picnic table with another family. Hopefully you don't mind doing that bc space is often limited.

I have even traveled abroad in anticipation of experiencing the local cuisine. I was originally introduced to the world of phở by a Vietnamese friend a lifetime ago. I have been exploring the variations of the iconic dish ever since. My favourite restaurant in the world is Vietnamese-owned and operated, back in Canada. While visiting the Islands, I only recently had occasion to spontaneously stop and try "Pho Vientiane," a long-time frozen-in-place food truck--secreted along the Kamehameha Hwy, Hauula - on Oahu's North Shore. I was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality and selection of Vietnamese street food this wonderful eatery was offering. The proprietors of this humble food truck were quintessentially customer service-focused. The menu options are impressively diverse, especially considering the size of the space in which they are stored and prepared. The service was impressively expedient, and the quality and generous size of the offerings were extraordinary. I was sufficiently impressed by Pho Vientiane to offer up five stars for the authentic tastes they offer. They are every bit as addictive as those I experienced when I visited South Vietnam - back in the day.

We ordered the Spicy Shrimp and the Shrimp Scampi plates, and neither was impressive. The food came out almost instantly, which proves it is not cooked to order. Because it sits around, the shrimp is incredibly difficult to peel. Anyone who cooks shrimp knows that if you do not peel it right after cooking, the shell sticks to the meat, which was exactly the case here. The Spicy Shrimp had a decent kick, but it lacked actual flavor. The Shrimp Scampi was better but still bland. Honestly, 9 out of 10 shrimp places back home in Southern California make a better plate. To make things worse, the two ladies managing the truck were rude. My wife asked for extra napkins, not realizing some were already in the bag. The worker snapped back, "Are those not enough?" and made her feel super awkward. We also asked for a cup of ice to go with our canned sodas. They flatly refused and told us to ask another truck nearby. Luckily, the other truck owners were much nicer and gave us the ice. Save your time and money. There are much better, friendlier options out there.
