After getting several quotes to paint our house, we went with Textbook. The quote process and paint selection seemed to go well. That is where our satisfaction ends. The work was poorly done. There was no prep work done. Our windows have had to be scraped clean due to the poor work. The paint was slapped on, windows painted closeda piece of trim that was replaced has already started falling apart and work that was quoted was never completed . Our overall satisfaction with the quality of the job is ZERO. We spent a lot of money on this and the job quality does not reflect the price. I look at my house every day and regret my decision to go with Textbook Painting. Even after three callbacks, the job really never was done to satisfaction. Do not use them. read more

Textbook Painting is the most overpriced painting company in the area. They use the same cheap materials and labor, and do less wall prep than any other company. They painted over hair, food and nail holes, and did $800 worth of damage to our hardwood floor. When I called them out on it, their field manager became arrogant and condescending, canceled our remaining contract and left us to pay for the damages. Ultimately, going with other painting companies saved us a lot of money for the same quality of work. My greatest satisfaction has been knowing I've successfully turned others away from Textbook by sharing our experience with friends, family, our real estate agent and other contractors. read more

Just awful, all around bad experience. Was promised someone would visit my residence to get an estimate. No one ever did (first red flag) and I received a call that I would best use "painter for a day" service even though I specifically told Tyler by phone I only wanted one wall painted and there was an odd blemish on it that needed a professional service. I mistakenly still scheduled the service, received an email confirmation, placed a down payment and paid for the paint. Thought I was good to go but no one showed on the day of service! Waited up all night for them to come out first thing in the morning, no one showed so I called in and apparently misinterpreted a text from them the day before so the just decided to cancel me! No one ever followed up to see what was going on. Who places a down payment, pays for paint up front, schedules the work and then doesn't follow through???? Afterword I spoke with a Sean who basically informed me that "painter for a day" was not the appropriate service for my job anyway. I texted him a picture of the blemish on the wall and he informed me that this is more than a one day job. Why was I not given a visit and estimate and convinced to set up an overpriced service I didn't need anyway? All bad, never again...... read more

Wow. We hired TextBook and won't ever regret. I really can't share with you how great an experience it was; and how fast. First of all; I've hired painters before; this isn't my first rodeo; so I know what to compare against. This is the second time we've fully painted our house. I made a mistake last time in whole we hired; the painter [ although he was about 2/3 the cost ] was NOT worth it. He got paint on our wood floors, damaged one of our floors by moving a fridge, and also spray painted all over our driveway and lawn when he was painting our vent covers. So when hiring this time around I was MUCH pickier and careful. Textbook did a LOT of things different; of course, the quality shines, and I can't find a single mistake or issue with their work. But here are some great things I saw; - they sent out an interior designer to consult our home after we had agreed on price. This person was a LEGIT bonus; they helped me pick colors for everything. Major win. - the painting crew was kind, family friendly, and helpful throughout all of it. Major shout out to Kelly and Aaron who were helpful and attentive, and also careful not to rush the project. I watched as they continually caught issues they wanted to correct without me having to bring them up. - they had a supervisor do a walkthrough with me at the end to make sure I was happy - and I was :) - they left me plenty of touch up paint for the inevitable mess my kids will make. I know it's been a while since my last review, but I had to get this message out about Textbook Painting! They are that good! My husband and I just bought our house. We wanted to try to fix it up ourselves, but both of us work full time and when we get home, we are exhausted. So, we decided to hire painters for our kitchen and guest bedroom. Textbook Painting exceeded our expectations. Michael Murray, the owner, is wonderful! He is extremely professional and thorough. When he came to our house, he not only gave us very detailed estimates, but he also took time to help us choose colors ( it's harder than you think if you've never done it!) Adrian and Toby, the two who painted the rooms, were so great! They finished the rooms in two days and were also very professional, very hardworking (and so nice!). My husband and I couldn't be happier with the way the rooms turned out. Side note: Toby loves dogs! And mine loved him. He taught my chihuahua to spin for french fries! We will definitely be calling this company to finish the other rooms as soon as we remove all the rest of the wallpaper! read more

My wife and I used Textbook Painting for the exterior of our house and are so glad we found them! As you can see from the photos our house was a hideous orange color and has been transformed into an entirely different looking home that we are so excited about every time we pull up to our driveway. Not only did the team do an amazing job on the paint itself, we were so happy with their professionalism and expertise. From the minute they got there, they were all super accommodating with any last minute changes we wanted to make with which color to go where and didn't hesitate to offer their input if we were unsure. This company is very unprofessional. We contacted them for a quote and they knew full well what the job entailed, which was probably considered a smaller job to them, but that was disclosed on the initial contact. Tyler showed up on time but the first red flag was that he did not even write anything down as we walked through the house and seemed to rush me through. He told us we would receive an estimate via email that same evening or the next day. Four days passed and we had not heard back. I sent a follow-up via text and Ivy apologized and stated that she would contact Tyler immediately for our estimate. We still have not received an estimate. It's clear that Tyler felt this job was too small and/or had no interest in doing the work. The type and size of the job should be screened then ahead so we would not have wasted his time or our time. Now our move is delayed even further. This is a terrible way to run a business and shows no common courtesy or professionalism. Small jobs sometimes also bring bigger jobs down the road when more work is needed and/or referrals to friends and family. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

Sometimes there is a thing as too cheap. My wife and I moved into our house within the past year and I have repainted every room. The last room left is a 30ft foyer that I was unable to do by myself due to not have the proper equipment. We received a quote from textbook painters and it came in 200$ cheaper than local competitors. We were told that the painting would start in 2-3 weeks and were shooting for early July of 2017. Communication was lacking the entire time and after many phone calls later the date kept getting pushed back until finally we had the painters arrive in mid August. The painters came and started painting immediately on a Friday. In our contract they stated they would paint the ceiling, walls, and all trim in our Foyer twice. After about 2 hours of painting the painters started to pack up and came to us to inspect their work. My honest review of their painting is it looked like a 10 year old took a paint roller and went to town. The walls were 50% covered with the new paint and 50% covered with the old paint. Half the trim was painted and the other half was still the original color. Lastly the ceiling looked like it was painted by a blind man. They did not cut in the edges of the ceiling and tried to roll the entire ceiling without cutting in, using an extension poll. I was so upset with the work that I called the boss and another boss was sent out to inspect the work and try and fix things. The work was so bad that they had to come out the following Monday to re pint the foyer and the ceiling. After the second time around things did look much better but there was still much of the trim unfinished and unpainted spots on the wall. When the painters left I spent the next 5 hours re painting all the trim that was missed , along with touching up the many spots on the walls that they neglected to fix. If all of the previous wasn't bad enough, they went outback of my house and started using the hose I had rolled up out back. They cracked the hose faucet and proceeded to leave the hose painted in the color of our foyer walls. Needless to say I had quite a horrible experience and if you can afford to get someone else to paint your house, I would highly recommend not hiring textbook painters. I must say their upper management did try to help the situation but if you have painters and middle management that does not care about their final product then more than likely your walls are going to look horrible. read more

We recently had our kitchen cabinets painted by Textbook Painting. We couldn't be more pleased! The cabinets turned out great and the service was excellent! Very professional throughout the entire process. We were notified ahead of time when the painters would be arriving and they always showed up as expected. They were very courteous and conscientious. They always straightened up before leaving each day. And thoroughly cleaned when they finished. We had a small issue with one cabinet door and it was taken care of immediately. What started out as a great experience, quickly turned into what is now going to be a 2 star review. We needed our house powerwashed. I understand that their main focus is painting, however they have just power washing listed on their website so I went ahead and emailed. The response time was quick and the quote and price was phenomenal. I wasn't home when the guy came, but my husband was. He paid him and then left with my daughter. If you told me he never powerwashed the house and simply slept on our patio furniture, I would believe you. I emailed them and explained the issue, and they had someone come back out, and were more than apologetic about the issue. 5 stars for that. The team leader came back out and powerwashed and we spoke about getting a quote to paint the house. He told me he would email me with that shortly. Never received that, so I'm going to assume getting our business is not that important to them. read more

I'll start by stating the house ended up looking great. But thanks goodness this ordeal is over. The road to a finished product has been terrible. They missed countless spots and simply skipped a number of items agreed to in our contract. Who agrees to paint a house then proposes an extra $500 to painting the chimneys? Or just forgets to paint doors? Broken hose reel ($70) , burnt out huge patches of our front lawn ($50), overflowed our garbage cans with un-bagged debris, paint chips, used paint cans and dirty brushes which got us warning from the city (+ 2 hrs of my time sifting, bagging, cleaning up our garbage cans and driveway). 5 day" job just wrapped up 3 weeks later. And this wasn't a "go with the cheapest" scenario. They were the 2nd highest bid we received. No chance of us using this company for another project. read more

I met 4 or 5 different people from Textbook during the job they did for me. Everyone of them was very courteous and did a great job. Kyle Shaw was the job coordinator and he always kept me informed of when the painters were coming, etc. If he left a voice mail, he would call back later to confirm I got it. My wife and I bought a house in Avon Lake on Lake rd that needed renovating. We had three different quotes done for painting the exterior of the home and textbook was very competitive (best). The sales rep was professional, delivered his quote on the spot, and the price didn't change from the quote. He even met me at the house on a Saturday. Once we chose them he helped us pick out colors with thorough explanation of the paint swatches and provided a couple of samples on the side of the house so we knew for sure. They were able to start work the following week and had the job completed as timely as possible considering the weather. The painting crew were very professional and polite. They were also quiet which helped with two small twins at home. The work was done very well and the job was not completed until we were completely satisfied and we were!! So much so that we had them back to paint the ceiling above our pool (a very difficult DIY job). I would recommend them to anyone looking at a painting project big or small!
