I did a little research before going to see about the rate of exchange but did not do enough research. I changed $100USD for Costa Rica Colon which yielded me 48,000 in Costa Rico Colon. I did further research when I got home because it didn't seem right and after checking multiple exchange rates, including several banks I did not check before, 48,000 in Costa Rican Colon is only $82.00 in USD. They claim to have the best exchange rate, but they clearly rip you off. Just plan ahead and order from a reputable bank. read more

Edit: thank you for the response. It was not explained that these are out of circulation. A list of denominations that can be exchanged on the website would be very helpful. The website does not list the currencies that are accepted or the denominations that are accepted. So after standing in line for 45 minutes, they could not accept the denomination above 50 and the one I had was 100. So I could exchange multiple 50s, but not a single 100. They said the only thing they could do would be to buy it for $.25 for a bill that is worth $250 USD. This is incredibly frustrating after large local banks no longer exchange and the Texas Currency Exchange was not helpful. Please add to your website on denominations and currencies that you will work with. read more

Wish I'd known they moved to North Star before heading to river center mall. Once I found it, getting some yen as a creative birthday gift for my anime obsessed niece headed to Japan for graduation was quick and easy. Called ahead to make sure they were open. It took me a while to find it once inside the mall and when I did, same as other reviews, lights were off and sign on the door said they would return. The door was open so I walked in and the guy working there told me he would be free in 30min as he was taking lunch at 6pm. Business hours are a suggestion here. I paid $2 to park and wasted my time. The Texas Currency Exchange is located on the 2nd floor (1st floor if you enter from the street level) of the Rivercenter Mall right next to Macy's. My boyfriend and I have used this location several times to purchase currency for upcoming trips and each time the transaction has been smooth with limited wait time. Today we purchased Japanese Yen and Filipino pesos as a gift for a friend who is traveling to Asia next week. The staff were friendly, fast and efficient. I appreciate that he asked how we wanted the currency broken down and let us know the conversions from USD. Today, should I say around 1500hrs I went to exchange with 1,225,000 Iraq Dinar which has a conversion of 0.00084 per US dollar, and ol' dude tried finesse level X9000 by offering me $618!!! Buyer beware!!! This guy was a crook, trying to rip off a veteran right before thanksgiving! Valued at about $1029 US Dollars!!! WATCH OUT these guys are not the folks to use. Recently stopped by and wanted a currency normally not carried but called ahead and the said the could order it for me I just had to leave a cash deposit. So I went in and encountered an employee who said I could indeed purchase the currency I needed took my $1000 said they would call when it came in. Got the call a few days later and drove across town the next day to find they only had $700 of the $1000 ordered, seems they sold $300 of the $1000 I paid for to another customer. This allegedly by a new employee mistake. No manager to talk to except by phone. Had to pay $11 twice for parking in the area lot. Purchase at an exchange rate which less than posted international rate and there is a transaction fee. I wonder what king of training is given employees and what are the qualifications of the trainers are. Management called all they said is they would discipline the employee, Why if he was not trained and supervised correctly? I purchased the currency in advance it was mine the had my $1000 and yet they sold my currency seems like theft to me, run don't walk from these folks. Kenneth Neal read more
