Review a gas station? Sure, why not. Actually, the only reason we stopped here was to stretch our legs on the way to Paso Robles and to check out the market attached to the gas station. The market is enormous and probably has every type of junk food ever made. It also offers a lot of other "country store" type products but I'll be damned if I'll pay $35 for a bag of pistachios. Supposedly, this was James Dean's last stop before his fatal accident. So there is a wall of James Dean posters near the back, near the fudge counter. If you need snacks or drinks, I suppose this is an ok place to stop but the prices seemed extremely high. read more

Going to give this place ZERO stars because of how the "manager" and employees treat their customers. I needed some serious air in my RV tires so I pulled in and paid the $1.50 for use of the air pump and attempted to fill my tires. Recommended 80psi in the front. I was down to 60 and dropping. Unfortunately, the machine pressure maxes out at 55psi so it was taking air OUT of my tires as I tried to fill them! Didn't realize that until my tires were down to 50ish. Went in and explained to the clerk. He confirmed that there's not much pressure in that machine and just shrugged his shoulder. I asked to speak to the manager. Mind you, it's not about the money, it's the handling of the situation. After explaining my problem, the redneck, grease-monkey "manager" just looked at me as if I were speaking Mandarin. With this moronic expression, he said, "Sorry 'bout that, but I can't refund your money" and also shrugged his shoulders. I said maybe they should post a note of the psi limitation, place it out of service, or call the company who manages it. I shrugged my shoulders and just left. Even though I prefer to support small businesses, I'll never drop by here again. The little things make a difference. read more

Came upon this gas station / convenience store while driving into Paso Robles. Who knew we stumbled upon a historical site. Lol. This is the last stop that James Dean made before he died in a car crash 20 miles away at the age of 24. The original building at the time has been demolished and a new building was built. Inside they have a cafe but when I came in at 630pm It was closed. But they do have homemade fudge and a large assortment of nuts. The average price is about 9.99 a pound for the nuts. A little pricey but you are supporting local businesses. The store is huge but only 80 percent of the shelf's were stocked. I would definitely stop by again for my road trip snack. Btw gas's is pricey here. Fill up on the I-5 to SR-46 exit before coming into town. Gas is literally a dollar cheaper. read more

The gas station is average; there's nothing to yelp about. However, the true surprise is what you'll find inside what seems to be a converted warehouse....James Dean memorabilia galore! Apparently this was James Dean's "last stop" before he died in 1955 from a head-on car crash about 25 miles down highway 46 (google the story if you are so inclined). For those who love nuts, they carry a wide variety of them...cashews, trail mixes, pistachios etc. Let it be noted, however, that they are packed in Zip Lock bags albeit very tightly sealed bags. Hey, I have no issues with the little guys telling the FDA to kiss their rear ends. Power to the People! read more

Gas was definitely needed on our way home from up north and this so happened to be the only gas station in the area. In fact, we almost bypassed this place because it was so expensive, but for some reason we just had to go inside. Just your average gas station. The inside is huge but not enough stuff being sold to fill the place up. There's even a fudge place and a diner inside here. Signs adorn the walls inside telling customers that only paying customers can use the bathrooms and urging customers to buy stuff so they can keep the place open. Really, really tacky. But I'll continue. We noticed lots of James Dean stuff. Lots of old stuff. Lots of locally grown stuff being sold also, all put in ziploc baggies that have been completely sealed so you can't open the bags to sample anything, they ask you if you want them to cut the bag open for you, which you should do if you want to be able to seal the bag back up. And some sort of a replica doll of someone sitting at the diner. We really didn't put two and two together at that time. We got some gas, a Red Bull and some toffee almonds, which were so good they made me sick. Upon getting back on the road, I gave the label on the almonds a read. The last stop that James Dean made before that fateful crash. Wow. Totally historical in my opinion. Just to think that we would have rolled right through there but something lured us in. Crazy. Once I found all that out, the fact that this place was extremely overpriced sort of went over my head and I didn't care anymore. I really like those special places that you can one day say you went to. read more

A little stop on the way to or from Paso Robles on Hwy 46. They have local items such as pistachios and almonds for sale. You can enter or exit from Hwy 46 which is probably a good thing so it is safer. They have restrooms there if you can't wait as well. read more

Gas station out on 46 isn't quite as cool as the store inside, but it was still pretty neat to be traveling and come up on a giant James Dean poster. We needed gas anyhow so we stopped. The prices were reasonable given the middle-of-nowhereness feeling, still about $0.50 cents higher than what we pay in the Bay Area, but so is nearby Paso Robles. The pumps were generally empty. It was us and one or two other cars. Clean area, no smell (sometimes small towns have weird smells).... ButtonWillow anyone? Overall just a great gas station with some interesting history. read more

Stopped at the gas station to use the bathroom and was pleasantly surprised by what i found. This was, so it seems, James Deans' "last stop" before the car accident that killed him about 20 miles away. The mannequins in the store are creepy! But there Are a lot of local goods for sale, which makes it a great stop. I stocked up on jams (pumkin butter!!!) and nuts. They also sell homemade fudge. read more

When there is nothing in sight in all directions this becomes a must stop. As I drive this road probably twenty times a year, I ALWAYS stop and buy something. To keep these remote gems open means each of us buying something. The massive selection of pistachios, almonds, and other nuts in all kinds of flavors is always a good start, Then the jams and jellies top it off. The James Dean Memorabilia is cool if you are a fan of the era. There have been times over the years that I was extremely pleased that this store was here. The clean restrooms are waiting, and just pick up a little something for the toll! I give five star as it is the best for miles as you can clearly see when you step outside. read more

Needed a rest stop, very clean restrooms and store with all varieties of homemade and natural goodies: syrups, jams, pickles, snacks and james dean and Marilyn Monroe collectables. Also interesting historic info. Gas was very pricey but was everywhere here. Bought some of their homemade fudge (made with real cream and real butter), yummy. read more

What a find!!! Who cares the gas was crazy expensive- the general store attached was worth it. If you've found this gas station you've just driven through the pecan, almond and pistachio farms who's produce fill the shelves. The fudge is amazing and there's a great selection of US memorabilia. read more

This gas station sells a lot of unique gifts and has a chocolate area like See's Candy at the Valley Plaza. Those chocolates are so good I'm bummed out I didn't buy more while there since I live in Bakersfield CA. But I now know which gas station to go to when I'm in Lost Hills. read more

What can you say about this spot that probably hasn't been said already. The great James Dean's last stop. Service is friendly. Great snacks to pick up for your road trip. Get out, stretch your legs and enjoy the view. My favorite snacks are the assorted flavored. pistachios. read more

Clean...great travel stop! They have lots of different nuts and trail mix for sale, a fudge bar which I have not taken advantage of...still on that diet but I feel every time I walk by I'm gaining a pound just by looking at it. have never been here before, but have heard about it...stopped in, bought some olives, chow chow (which I have been wanting to try but could never find) and marinated artichoke hearts...also had to pee before resuming travel...interesting, low key kind of place, lots of pistachios, flavored many different ways, lots of jellies, preserves, oils, etc....many many different jarred items...the fudge was so very dry though, so passed on that....will stop in next time I pass through read more

The restrooms didn't have toilet paper in any stalls. The toilets look like they never been cleaned. When I brought it to the staff attention they kicked me off the property with profanity. read more

I don't care what their historical claim to fame it. Yes, the bathrooms are gorgeous, but the prices are ridiculous. They charge 50¢ per gallon more than the going rate, a six ounce bag of popcorn is $7.50 and a bag of nuts was almost twelve bucks. No excuse for that kind of gouging. Maybe if their prices were reasonable, people would buy more stuff. read more
