Pretty good K-chicken!…read more When visiting Kona (kinda often), this is my last stop before returning my rent-a-car at Keahole-Kona Airport to fill up gas. Usually it's in the mid to late afternoon, so sometimes I buy my "Linner" to take to the airport and eat it there (maybe even sneak it into the airport restaurant (after buying a drink there) occasionally! Shhh!!! .... ) So I almost always get a small take out container with a scoop of rice and 1 or 2 pieces of their fried Korean Chicken. Yum! That, add some cabbage that has been soaking in that Korean BBQ sauce, put it over the rice.... yum P: When you look at the display case, it might look unassuming, but (in my opinion) it is ONO! Best part is crunching on the saucy skin! Kinda on the pricey side for a piece of chicken and not the most heart healthy ... but oh well, heck, I'm on travel, so it's not like I'm buying it everyday! Gas prices are typically "Kona" (expensive) ... but within the ballpark of other places. But this is one of the more convenient stops I make along the Queen K Highway on the way to the airport... Got other things in the deli/warmer section... they're 'okay', but it's the K fried chx that convinces me to buy gas at this stop along the way!

Whenever I work on the Westside of the big island (Kona), when heading back to the airport to…read morereturn my rental car, I like to stop by this particular Nom Nom/ Hele gas station in Kaloko because this gas station is hidden from the main road - (Queen Ka'ahumanu Hwy.), and it tends to be overall less crowded than the Texaco or Costco gas center. Yes, there aren't too many gas options along the way back to the airport especially when one forgets to fill up the rental car, but at least this little gas station is just a hop, skip, & jump away from the Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport. Prices here are what it is..........neighbor island gas tends to be a little higher than what we pay for on Oahu, but I guess that's the way it goes, and the locals get used to that. I haven't stopped into the Nom Nom store for anything, I strictly come here for the convenient gas location. If you forget to fill up your rental before taking it back to the airport, this Nom Nom/Hele Gas station is a great option.

Shaundalynn at  Hele Gas Station 73-4796 Kanalani St BB, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 is always friendly,…read morehelpful, and professional. She goes above and beyond to keep things running smoothly, even during the busiest times. For instance never neglecting all her customers in store when she was the only one. She knew I wanted hotdogs their and none were on the grill she went to the back and made the extra effort and got them. Her sense of awareness and wondering what I wanted help with, was on spot! She asked me if I needed some help! I never asked her, I figured it was out and would have left without asking. Almost like she read my mind. Instead she made sure she made Hele-On profit and I made sure I bought two hotdogs! Her great attitude truly improves the customer experience even running to the back loading and helping customers during a busy time. Shaundalynn is professional. She was doing at least 3 tasks at once while . I hope management recognizes her hard work -- a raise would be well deserved!

Extra star for awesome, friendly service! We wanted to try this famous gas station fried chicken…read more They have various combos and it wasn't quite obvious what to order for the family. But the lady working there was so nice and explained everything! They even signed me up for the discount card. Mahalo for being so kind to this clueless mainlander! We got the 2 orders of the combo with 2 chicken thighs and 1 drumstick and 3 pieces of fried, batter dipped potato wedges. Pieces were large and meaty. It was a lot of food! Only $8.99 with the discount card for each box. The potatoes were tender and quite tasty. We really enjoyed them. Chicken itself was flavorful, although we found the crust too salty. It was a tiny bit dry. Not sure how long it had been sitting there. The crust was very crunchy. Everything was hot and well packaged. Overall, a great deal and worth a try if you're in the area! Location of this one is very convenient - just South of the airport and near the Costco.

My boyfriend really wanted the tonkatsu, but they had just run out, so we grabbed the fried chicken and the chili with rice and mac and ended up sharing everything. It totally hit the spot. Comfort food, super flavorful, and way better than we expected for a late-night convenience store stop. Not fancy, but when you're hungry and everything's closed, Minit Stop comes through.
