Zero stars But apparently I had to put 1…read more They say ppl in recovery don't shoot their wounded. Able to change must be the exception because they absolutely do. A new client was allowed to touch and throw my possessions out of my bathroom cabinet. Obviously the exchange got heated and the next day I was discharged. Able to change only heard one side. Hers. I had been making good progress as a client of 2+ months w a total of 4 months sobriety. They took the word of a woman who had just been discharged from a mental facility over me - again - a client in good standing. My spineless therapist gave me the news and informed me that the decision was made and that I was not allowed a word in edgewise. I was told at 1pm that I had to be out a 3pm. They provided no help w regards to housing or continued medication. If I had not had the financial and friendship support, I would have been out on the street w no continued medical care. This should be illegal and actually the tenant laws of California supersede any contract you sign w a sober living or disreputable company like Able to Change. In earnest I could have stayed until I had secured housing and they would be able to do nothing about it. I could have stayed for another 30 days. Now on to my therapist. He mentioned sex repeatedly in our group sessions - Ick! AND he also maintained a really inappropriate relationship w another young client. They often exchanged txt messages outside of business hours and therapy sessions. I felt slimy just watching it. The Power dynamic alone was ever in his favor - gross. This therapist was in his late 40s and the female client was 22. Additionally one of the house managers would often forget to put our medication in the safe overnight - both dangerous and unethical. Ariel now "Ariel Gatewood," a female house manager at Able to Change would often have her fiance on the property and in her room when she assumed no clients were around. Additionally she "borrowed over $170 dollars from myself and my roommate that she has yet, and probably never will pay back. Ariel Gatewood has no business working in treatment whatsoever. She is dishonorable and she abandoned her job, stealing kitchen utensils and tinfoil in the process. She should not be allowed to continue to prey on our vulnerable demographic. Bottom line Able to change is disreputable and harmful to people with mental health and substance use disorder. Bottom Line:They shoot their wounded.

The staff here really care, love and invest all they have, from their heart, to minds, and souls to this program and the men treated here. They have 2 Tracks (Traditional AA & Christian) and both are amazing in their own ways. My husband has been to a handful of programs and never have they had such an impact on him mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as Covenant Hills has. God's presence is truly here in this place! His love, comfort and strength is seen and felt throughout each meeting, each staff member and truly in and through these men who put their all in this program, because really these men coming in really only have one last shot at sobriety. This disease is truly life or death. Covenant Hills goes above and beyond basic treatment. They encourage the men to dig deep within themselves, and get to the root of the problem. And not just treating the addict or alcoholic on a surface level but deeper treatment and doing the steps. They focus on relapse, and recovery and why they are so important. And unlike any other program I have visited my husband at, they involve the family in their treatment, and in their recovery. Helping us cope in the right ways, through faith, counseling, healing and in understanding why and how we can affect or contribute to their sobriety in healthy ways vs unhealthy ways. They teach us how to be a good supporter and not co-dependents that enable and continue to allow behavior or manipulation to occur but how to set healthy boundaries that will ensure our loved ones to be successful this time in their sobriety and for the rest of their life. My husband was blessed with a Scholarship for 60 days. They also take insurance which is great for all of the people that really need the help, as well as a being in a safe, positive, yet disciplined, loving, caring and structured environment. During those 60 days, he met brothers that I know he will stay friends for the rest of their lives. They really went deep, shared their pasts , hopes, dreams, faith. hurts, weaknesses, struggles and their hearts with one another. This has been such a truly special experience for my husband because he had isolated himself and felt alone in his addiction/alcoholism for so many years, too many which broke my heart. But here, by divine intervention, these men connected and found strength, peace, hope, love and a special brotherhood that only God could've orchestrated. A real support system while they all journey together in sobriety. A Special thank you to Jeremiah, his case worker. Thank you for your wisdom, guidance, encouragement, brotherly love and counsel, my husbands life has been forever changed because of your obedience to God's call and the purpose he has placed on your life to give back with all you have to these men. I needed a miracle to change my life and the direction it was heading in and God put this facility with its staff there to do just that! Intake: Ken is the one that worked with my family to really get the ball rolling and my beautiful journey started. He was nothing but kind and caring when I showed up for admission oh so broken. He made my intake experience that should have been miserable actually bearable and even a little fun which really brought a glimmer of hope to the beginning of the path. Drivers: Shoutout to the entire driver team. Riley is the one who picked me up and drove me in to in patient and gave me some really powerful words of encouragement. Joel always had me and the rest of the guys laughing and really lightened up my experience there while providing some really good wisdom as well. Darren and Sniper Jim were great drivers who conducted themselves very professional and executed any all tasks flawlessly while also bringing some laughs along the way. House Management: Man these guys were all so wonderful and such blessings to have for the day to day stuff. I want to shoutout Aaron, Andrew, Justin and Colby. Every single one of these dudes were there for me at various parts along the way and each one of them went above and beyond to help me out. These are exactly the dudes you want handling the houses when you're going through treatment! Case Managers: The entire case management team was unreal. Mike, Jeremiah and of course my case manager Matt. Mike was such a sweet and caring dude but very deep. His groups really brought some great introspective thinking. Very bright dude who is great to pull aside and run things by. Jeremiah was the man since day 0!! This dude actually took the time to give me a tour of the facility two months before I ultimately came in. He was super kind and genuine but could really bring the heat when we needed it. This is a man passionate about what he does and is in it to genuinely help turn guys lives around. Which he had a big part in doing just that for me! Matt... You're one heck of a case manager man. There were some pivotal points of my recovery where I wanted to just be done and leave but you managed to steer me in the right direction and really stand in my corner. You were nothing but phenomenal from the beginning. You were constantly proactive. Anytime I needed something you were likely already on it and if not you addressed it and got it handled immediately. From start to finish you set me up for success and I can't thank you enough for that! Mr. Ed, Aaron, Andrew, Joel, Jeremiah & Pastor Tom are only a few of the staff there that are really special people who literally save lives every day. The inclusion of God and Christianity is another life saving part of this program. The men take it upon themselves to include Bible studies and pray together and for each other. The men that were in program with my qualifier are still in touch with each other and truly mean a lot to our family. The other families and ours have become part of a larger family because as Mr. Ed says, "we heal in community." The importance of including families in treatment is the one thing that other programs are missing. Treating the disease of addiction/alcoholism should include families because we too are affected by the disease. And Mr. Ed has weekly family group meetings for families with qualifiers currently in patient and alumni families. These meetings are so important because he teaches and gives families opportunities to keep connecting and learning. We, as family members are also able to share our experiences, our strengths and our hope. Through this program we have learned so much and have made it a part of our daily lives.
