This is not a superstore. Just a small one, like the size of a Tesco Metro maybe. They don't accept American Express. But come on. Who cares really? There are affordable alternatives to every expensive brand in the market. Be it chocolates, biscuits or breakfast cereals (actually a lot more, but I'll just stop here). I've heard some of my friends say that ALDI's milk doesn't last as long as what is written on the can, but I'm yet to find one like that.

As you would expect from discount supermarkets like Aldi and Lidl, you do have to queue for a while because there are only 1 or 2 members of staff at the checkout and you do need to bring your own shopping bags, otherwise Aldi can charge you. Also Aldi do not accept credit cards as payment, only cash and debit cards. We might take all these things for granted in other supermarkets, but Aldi do this in order to help keep their costs down and pass some of lower costs down to us customers. Overall, Aldi offers better quality food than Lidl.

I think because the Lee Green branch is so good, my expectations of other supermarkets are quite high and I am spoilt in that respect. Lewisham Sainsburys is fine it has everything you could possibly need. It is a bit smaller than Lee Green, and the layout is not as nice. I find it is a bit cramped. However, Sainsburys offer great customer service whichever branch you go into, so I am happy with that.

A Fairtrade, Organic coffee shop with a wide variety of food and drink available, for many, the Broca is the final rest-stop before heading into the madness of central London; a moment to enjoy a cup of coffee, served by familiar faces while reading today's papers. While much of the shop's morning trade comes from commuters, later in the day, and at weekends, the shop is frequented by locals and visitors alike who uphold the ancient purpose of The Coffee Shop: discussion of local, political and creative issues. Because Brown's does better coffee. That's not to say Broca's coffee is bad, it's still of a great quality, brewed up by friendly, chatty staff. But then why do I prefer Broca? Essentially it's the atmosphere. Brown's is lovely and clean and orderly, and whilst the staff there are friendly and charismatic, it still feels a little clinical. However, the Broca is full of eclectic furniture and wall fixtures and feels so much more like a coffee lounge and it's incredibly easy to relax and wile away the hours over a decent coffee and a tasty muffin. Not to mention there's the book swap, the children's play area (I don't have kids myself, but thought it's a nice touch), and the huge notice board keeping you up with all things Brockley. In short, it feels much more like a cosy part of the Brockley community, which I suppose is a what makes me frequent Broca more than their next-door rivals. I suppose it just depends what you want from coffee shop. Amazing coffee = Brown's. A nice place to relax and feels cosy, with a rather good coffee = Broca.

Owned by two of the most helpful and friendly grocers in London- Adrian and Jason- the shop sells high quality fresh fruit and vegetables on a seasonal basis. Everything is beautifully arranged- the presentation is immaculate, especially at Halloween and Christmas. My friends who live locally, will now not shop anywhere else. They even arrange weekly vegetable and fruit boxes through them. Last Summer I asked them to put together a small fruit platter for me- I only had 20 pounds- and they delivered the most enourmous, extravagant platter that few 20 people. I was so impressed- they put in beautiful apples, strawberries, pears, mango and melon- a lot of the money. They also stock an amazing selection of pickles, preserves and Chegworth Valley apple juices.
