While I wasn't able to get the item I came in for, I was pleased with the selection overall, I found them to be one of the better supermarkets in the area for overall choice/selection in both grocery and home, the store had a nice, modern feel to it too which I liked. There is also an upstairs area with a Cafe and Clothing Section, so the store is HUGE. I do think the staff could have had better knowledge of where to find items, after asking someone where to find something, I later found out we were in the wrong area of the store and they didn't stock it anyway, he did seem super friendly though. The worst part about this store for me was they seemed to have blockages down every aisle from warehouse cages to even a warehouse truck, it seemed to be in the worst possible positions, luckily the store was large so this didn't have a huge effect, but it felt like I was in the middle of a construction site in parts of the store. My checkout experience was quick and easy using Sainsbury's Smartshop, it would have been good to see them have more bags at the front of the store in order to support this. 4* - Very good supermarket in Leigh, it is spacious and modern with a fairly good selection of most items.

I do think access as a pedestrian into this store is a little difficult as there's only one gap allowing open access, which can be difficult in the dark, so do try to attend in a car if you can as I did struggle approaching from towards Sainsbury's. The store is clean, pretty modern and they had a good selection of most products. They even had a Costa Coffee machine which worked, on many trips to different ASDA stores lately the coffee machines have either been off-brand or turned off, so it was good that they're still offering that service here. The ASDA Parcel returns service is actually in a much bigger, more secure part of the store, I hated using this in the past as many of them tend to be in the foyer as you go into the store and it is so easy for someone to steal a parcel, but it's much more secure here, allowing you to return items to brands such as ASOS and Ellis Brigham with your mind at ease. There is also a Coinstar machine. 4* - Very good ASDA store but always worthwhile visiting Sainsbury's which is a couple of minutes away which has some other different/good food items, and a very good home range which this store can't compete with.

This isn't a large store, but they do have a satisfactory range of most items you'd expect to find in a Lidl, including a small bakery, although unlike the store at Baguley in Wythenshawe, they did seem to have fewer brands and they didn't seem to have in-store toilets. The staff member working seemed happy, I only noticed one staff member on the floor, who quickly moved from the checkout to the shop floor, she did seem helpful but the store was certainly understaffed, again like all Lidl stores I've noticed, they don't seem to have self-service tills which I strongly dislike. They had a decent selection of fruit and vegetables, the store also has easy access as a pedestrian or via a car. Leigh has a lot of really good, large supermarkets nearby, this fails to compare to them, it's good for fruit and vegetable items and maybe a few others but it wouldn't be somewhere you'd want to do a full, large shop. 3*

The Food Warehouse is a low-cost supermarket style store from Iceland, while I've been to dozens of…read moreIceland Stores, this was my first time visiting their The Food Warehouse brand, it is similar to most Iceland stores, especially the newly refurbished ones, a decent product range but nowhere near enough to be able to do a full shop, an emphasis on frozen foods but with more solid and distinguishable cupboard/fridge ranges and aisles too. This location is in-between two much larger supermarkets (Sainsbury's and Asda) and is next to B and M in Leigh, on Parsonage Way. Despite being described as as a place at offering "the brands at prices the major supermarkets wouldn't", I actually found many items here to be more expensive compared to one of the other supermarkets nearby or even B and M next store in some cases, they did have some good deals but that seemed harder to find than a bad one. I hated how many of the freezers were the deep chest/box freezer type, which not only meant there'd be more touching points to get an item, it'd be more difficult reaching into a freezer and even seeing what you wanted, and find the frozen range much better presented again at nearby rivals. The Free From section was especially poor, it was mainly vegetarian/vegan items, with little regards for people with allergies such as myself, who actually don't have a choice. They did have some good items and the store did look good and unique, so it isn't bad at all, there's just so many flaws and better places nearby, perhaps it's useful to pop in if you're in a bit of a rush as this is obviously smaller than the nearby rivals and never seems as busy, but it wouldn't be my first choice. 3*

A small ASDA location on Windermere Road in Leigh town centre, now I don't really understand the…read moreneed for this branch as there is a much larger and very good ASDA within half a mile of this location, as well as many other major supermarkets having larger stores nearby. The store is only small so sells a basic range of groceries either, the range of anything other than your typical food shopping, from toiletries to the to-go food range was pretty much non-existent, this store felt like a poor Tesco Metro type store in terms of stock and size. There isn't even a petrol station! The store was mostly clean and other than a slightly strange combination of items on an aisle, down to the small size of the store, it was OK however I would only visit here as a last resort. 2* - Very basic and reduced section, considering there are multiple better stores nearby, even another ASDA location, as well as all other major supermarkets, I struggle to understand the need for this store, other than acting as a convenience style store, which even then is a push.

Morrisons in Leigh is probably my least favourite supermarket in Leigh, it seems every major…read moresupermarket seems to have at least one branch within Leigh town centre, or at least a mile of it, this Morrisons is located on Sale Way, opposite Leigh Sports Village, at the moment the public transport access here is difficult with only one bus serving the area, the 597, made worse by the fact that its' most frequent buses are every half an hour and there is no evening service, so you'll need to do the 20-30 minute walk into the town centre, or use other modes of transportation such as a car. The store had a decent feel to it, it has been recently refurbished and you could sense that, it didn't feel as old and boring as many Morrisons stores do. For a store of its' size, the product range was OK. I did struggle to get a mobile signal in and around the store, for someone who liked shopping for people and using cashback apps to get money off shopping, this relies on internet connectivity, I do think it is pretty annoying how I couldn't get a signal around the store, this is on the EE network at least, and I didn't have a problem anywhere else in Leigh, even just outside the store. There didn't seem to be too many staff around the shop-floor, again I find this typical of Morrisons in general. 3* - Nice setup for a Morrisons, bad mobile signal which is pretty much No Service is a huge downfall for me, product selection just OK, checkouts could have also been managed better, again this is considering Morrisons are the only major supermarket not to have mobile/handheld device scanning.

The deli staff, some cashiers and salad bar are always aggressive, personally attacking customers and constantly rude. This is when they are not stood around talking, gossiping and skiving off. As a result, the salad bar is always poorly stocked and old not fresh, and other departments bad. Avoid, go to a proper supermarket. Store managers and head office not interested for months. Even worse to disabled customers.

This Aldi is located on Leighbrook Way, just behind the Sainsbury's and just in-front of the Asda, close to Parsonage Retail Park. I wasn't too pleased with the product range overall, I also did find it hard to get in and around the store mainly down to the number of children who were just playing and crawling across the floor, I get the store can't be responsible for other customers, but why does this always seem to happen in an Aldi and not anywhere else? The store wasn't even that busy either. I hate how this store has a policy where you must go through the checkouts to leave the store, especially considering they don't leave a wide enough aisle open to get through if you're not buying anything, which forces you to queue and wait to get out, which is really annoying, especially considering they only seemed to have a small number of checkouts on, despite being busy and no self-scanning facilities. The selection of fruit and vegetables was OK and was probably the highlight of a rather mediocre Aldi, and it was easy enough to get in and out of the car-park as either a pedestrian or in a car. 2*

Provenance Food Hall and Restaurant sits on Market Street in Westhoughton, and has always boasted…read morean impressive food hall of local fresh meats, pies, produce and the like, but also has an upstairs restaurant which I've never been to before, so whilst in Westhoughton I thought I'd pop in for some breakfast. The restaurant area is on a first floor mezzanine level, looking down over parts of the food hall like a minstrels gallery. It's decorated in bright and fresh neutral colours, grounded by a natural wooden floor. Light cascades in through sash windows on two walls. Glimpses through cut-outs in the walls show further seating areas, for use in the full restaurant of an evening. I took a menu from the bar and had a read. The breakfast offerings look good, but as I read the menu I realise that the rest of the menu looks superb too! Steak nights, grill nights, Afternoon Teas and all sorts of other tempting things. I already decide before ordering that I must come again to the "proper" restaurant in an evening. I decided to order sourdough toast with whipped butter and marmalade, and a pot of Birchall's English Breakfast Tea, and was told to take a seat anywhere I like and it'd be brought over. I chose to sit by one of the sash windows and look down out over Market Street. Even seated I can see the fine quality finish on everything in this venue; the restaurant is the same quality and fit as the downstairs foodhall, meaning everything is spotless, modern, and pleasant. The staff upstairs seem to be as friendly and helpful as the staff downstairs too. It all feels very professional, whilst still very friendly. I observe other visitors who join after me, a mother and her children enjoying breakfast, some ladies-who-lunch ordering eggs benedict, and two young girls ordering soft drinks. It's nice to see that there's a mix of customers. My breakfast arrives, beautifully presented, but to be honest I wouldn't have expected any less from Provenance from what I've seen. The Fairtrade tea is delicious, and the sourdough toast has a superb crunch to it, the butter and marmalade both being of good quality, meaning you feel a bit spoilt for your breakfast, which can never be a bad thing. It was a very tasty breakfast, and cost less than four quid. Brilliant. Great place, and I can see that the quality and service are priority here, so I look forward to returning to try the evening menu sometime, and was already advised by another staff member to book in advance due to popularity!

Everything is clean and we'll kept; the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is fantastic; bread and pastries are baked fresh on site and there's a great deli downstairs. Prices are very reasonable. I'll definitely be coming here again.
