This is for the miserable excuse for a cafe and it's glum staff. The most depressed tuna melt I have eaten in my life.

While the nearby Morrison's had some decent gluten-free food (in the "free from" section, like I…read morewould have known that!), I heard that ASDA is huge. And there's a bus that takes you straight there. So off I went... Only upon arrival did I see the Wal-Mart sign next to it. Well, at least the prices will be cheap, right? I was starving so went to the cafe, where the lines were long, food was nearly out, and the tables a mess. To their credit, the poor workers were doing their best to keep the lines moving and tables tidied up, but just too many people making a big mess as they went along. The interior of the store was pretty cold, and the "free from" selections not much greater than Morrison's (although the freezer section had GF fish for fish and chips, meatballs, pizza, burritos, and the Amy's line of organic foods). I poked around the rest of the store and found the clothes line to be rather dated (Wal-Mart and Target in the US are vastly better) and lots of cheap home goods that's probably OK if you can't make it out to IKEA. Not worth a second visit; maybe it's time to see what Tesco and/or Sainsbury's has to offer.

Not quite as pure evil as its parent company Walmart, Asda has still never been a favourite with…read moreme. I found this branch to not be much better. There's nothing terrible about this Asda, but it has enough faults to make you want to shop elsewhere. Why Asda and not elsewhere? Like its other chains, Asda is a bit more expensive, and the quality isn't as good for most of its fresh produce. If I really must shop at a supermarket, I might as well justify it by its super cheapness or utter convenience. The better part of my soul might resent my local Tesco, but at least I have a good economic reason for going there. They might not oppose unions like Walmart, but I would still rather shop elsewhere.

Great to have one so close. It's quite good for general groceries. And ok it's not brands that…read moreyou've heard off as they can't get into the main supermarket chains supply, but as just as good if not better because it's cost less and saves you some pennies. The wine selection is small but i've tried a few and haven't not finished the bottle - so that''s a good thing ;-) These have a small bakery - which makes the bread fresh - yay! Also there is a small veg selection of which i've had courgettes, aubergines, onions, garlic and red peppers and they have all been fine. I want to do an experiement and see how much cheaper it is compared to lets say tesco or sainsbury's and look at the quality and quantity v's the other supermarkets. They you save money here so i want to give it a go!

The in store bakery has a huge selection of both savory and sweet baked goods. There's always a fascinating mix of specials available - where else can you put a tin of beans, a pair of waders for fishing and a selection of childrens colouring books in your basket at the same time? Fruit and veg is of good quality, and there is a good selection. There isn't such a great selection of fresh meat, however the price is cheap and the quality is excellent. You will save money over the local Tescos and Morrisons if you do your shopping here instead.

One of the better Morrison's in the Edinburgh area. I regularly frequent this one and the Gilmerton…read morestore, and the contrast in standard between the two is very evident. In fairness Portobello Road's Willy M recently went under an overhaul, introducing a revitalised rotisserie, butcher, delicatessen, etc., while extending the back area to accommodate new chillers and a lovely fresh bakers. Most notably the fresh produce area has been redesigned and laid out well, introducing a particularly good herb garden. The selection is probably the best I've seen. Offers are regular and fair. I particularly love timing it right to get all the discounted butchers, bakers and candlestick mak-- I mean rotisserie fare at the end of the day. Good for a monthly shop. Loses one star for not stocking Calippos anymore.

As far as Morrisons goes, this isn't a bad one. They have more fresh produce on show than most…read moreother of the franchise, including fresh beets and the occasional shipment of Pomelo, which excites my partner more than is rationally expected. Then again, my obsession with fresh beets is maybe just as strange. The staff span the gamut from surly to very friendly, so better than a lot of the big groceries, as you have to expect a certain range with so many people working there. Since I first put up my review Morrisons have moved with the times and now have a much expanded free-from section, including more frozen options, etc. Their Quorn selection is still limited (no steak strips!) and frequently sold out, but it's overall a much better place for vegetarian products now. Well done! I do still find that their layout can be confusing after almost two years here.
